I was watching a Band of Brothers panel recorded at the National WW2 museum a few months ago that was focused on the actor boot camp. The panel included Capt. Dale Dye (whose company runs the boot camps), several actors, and one of the series producers. The producer mentioned that the Master's of the Air actor boot camp was completed shortly before the panel was held.

Hope it's better than The Pacific.
But maybe comparison to Band of Brothers is too high a bar for anyone.

It had better be. Talk on another forum says the FAA is going to issue an emergency AD which will ground all B-17s soon due to wing spar issues. Supposedly operators have been warned to get their planes to a final destination where they want them to stay before the AD drops. “The Yankee Air Museum decided to proactively cease flight operations of the B-17G Flying Fortress ‘Yankee Lady.’Recent inspections of other B-17s have discovered wing spar issues. As a result we expect a mandatory Airworthiness Directive to be issued by the FAA in the next few weeks regarding the matter. Out of an abundance of caution, we are temporarily ceasing our B-17 flight operations and awaiting direction from the FAA regarding necessary inspections and repairs that will be required. It is expected that the B-17 will not fly during the 2023 flying season. Please note that this only affects the B-17.“

Unfortunate but better than losing another 17 and her flight crew. Safety first.

Not being obtuse, but have there been losses of B17's to spar related issues lately?

No, but it could have been something uncovered in the investigations of the two B-17 mishaps.

Shouldn't that be up to the B17 flyers to make the decision? Don't they check for that kind of thing? Could it not be repaired and re-inforced?
A shame regardless if they go through with that.

When you think about it with the loss of 3 B17s over the past 10 years or so, there are only 3 or so flyable in the US and one in the UK.
See the following links for more info..
It's coming up on 25 years since I filmed this.. four B17s at one airshow. https://youtu.be/sL4u4OM_7YI (https://youtu.be/sL4u4OM_7YI)

Has anyone heard an update or seen anything released yet? A Google search seemed to give me a September 20th, 2023 release date - but I have not activated an Apple TV subscription to view myself.

I've had AppleTV for a year in anticipation of this; still says its coming at a later date. Not sure, could the writer's strike have set back the schedule?
Hoping for it by the end of the year...

I saw an article that said we could see it sooner than we thought. But I have seen nothing since that article.

I would say that’s a safe bet. It affected so many things. Looks like they made a deal.

Last rumors I heard is that it bumped to Jan.
Pffffftttt.
Glad I didn't already signup for Apple yet. They'll get my money after I've heard reviews.

Band of Brothers set the bar pretty high but I liked The Pacific.
I was just discussing this with some coworkers this morning. One of them is watching the Pacific (having never seen BoB either), and I was explaining how much darker The Pacific is. It's two totally different types of warfare, and I like how the Pacific focuses on the mental aspect of that. It's almost an unfair comparison between the two, but BoB definitely set the standard for historical series.

I'm attempting my third struggle through The Pacific right now. I don't think I'll make it. Conversely, I've watched BoB probably a half dozen times.

I would exploit this movie and AH together. Movies can spark a lot of trends. Ya can't ask for a better time to advertise and connect the two....everywhere.
Juuuust sayin...

That could be very possible. It's probably already filmed. It could be the editing getting slowed up, depending on which side of the line their on. Takes more time to edit than film.

AH is the only current multiplayer sim with the ability to fly heavy bombers, as far as I know. In IL-2, you can't even fly medium bombers (I consider the A-20 a light attack bomber). Must definitely get the word out.
Also, scenario planners - how about a Big Week-type scenario some time after the final episode airs?

I'd suggest right before it drops not after.
So many fanbois are going to be drooling at the mouth waiting for the drop after all this time being, able to LARP it while they are waiting might play on their peak arousal. ;)
$0.02.

To whet your appetites, this doc has some great WWII color in it, and tells the story pretty well.

Excited to see it, but did I see a 332nd red-tailed P-51D flying escort in that trailer? I thought it was going to be about the 8th AF's (100th BG in particular) bombing campaign against Germany.
I'm really hoping for a high standard of historical accuracy in this production.

Not at my desk right now, but after watching the teaser.(Which was amazing). It could be a couple things.
- 332nd pilot Prisoner of War in the camp. I've read some of the story follows some men who were captured. The footage of P-51 could be a flashback of the pilot.
- It could be part of a shuttle mission the 100th flew to Italy from England/Russia.
Hate to rivet count the teaser, but maybe that's what we're seeing.

Upon reexamination of the teaser, there is a scene where the black pilot appears to be enjoying a drink or good times and above his head is a sign that says 99th FS - So my bet is that the 100th BG meet the 332nd in Italy on a shuttle mission and perhaps they celebrate a successful mission at the barracks?
There is also this scene... Tunisia? I guess it could be stateside training too.

I don't know.
I'm not going to sweat it.

As I have not seen an accurate ww2 airwar movie come out of Hollywood maybe ever, not holding my breath on this one..
It's great to hope I guess
My guess it'll have a social justice message or two thrown in for our education..like the majority of what they call entertainment today.

This is how I treat all movies and video games unless it is meant to be an educational documentary. As long as there are not super obvious and it does the story justice...I'm fine with it. We have to understand that all of us here are 1%ers lol. No one else will notice.

Spikes started the discussion of that.
Sounds like a great idea to me.
Usual time for next scenario would be February-ish timeframe.

Hopefully, it's not a lot of "WE SPENT A LOT OF MONEY ON THIS CGI, AND BY GOLLY, WE'RE GONNA USE IT!" type stuff. As cartoon pile-its we know instinctively the correct bank of a plane in any given turn, the correct distances between planes, and the correct perception of speed, ALL areas where Hollywood has consistently got it wrong. Let alone historical inaccuracies of putting the wrong equipment from the wrong era/theater in the wrong hands. BUT... there's a fine line between a compelling story and a historically accurate snorefest.

Here’s a critique of the trailer. I have no idea if this guy knows what he’s talking about though but some of it made sense.
