Title: Where can I find more training films like this?
Post by: Palace Cobra on October 20, 2023, 07:21:28 PM
I subscribe to a lot of AH channels, but none seem to be active.
I saw this video come across my feed tonight and I like the format of it, minus the personal drama that seems to exist between the author and the subject. They break down everything in each fight.
Until seeing this video, I would never have thought it would be so easy to beat a veteran player like this, nor be able to understand the maneuvers and where the opponent went wrong or the decision making process of the attacker.
Literally, this has changed my outlook on dogfighting. Now I just need more of it. This is gold.
Are there any other channels or videos I can sub to that might have videos that cover fights in-depth, similar to the video? I don't think this channel has many others like this, so I don't really know what terms to search for.

Try searching YouTube for videos by VuduVince.

One idea would be to set up times with Training staff. They can put you through some ACM training. And may have links to videos. I'm sure someone will chime in here.
One thing to keep in mind, we're all still learning, even after years of flying. It's a true in-depth art. The object is to have fun learning it.

If you haven't already, take a look at The Air Combat Tutorial Library on YT https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwV5RLX7mkaDy5gTIiuwGmg It's based in IL2 but they have some very good tutorial vids covering just about every aspect of aerial combat.
You can also schedule some time with a trainer as Animl suggested. Yes, it is a shameless plug. If you want to set up a time to meet up just PM me with the best times for you, and I'm sure we can work something out.

I wouldn't waste your time on Skyyr's films, they are purely an ego massage for a once decent MA player turned cheat.
I have to echo the others The Air Combat Tutorial Library by Requiem is very probably the best training library out there.

I haven't seen Requiem's tutorial. I'll search for it. The problem is when searching for AH3 content, most of it is old and not weighted heavily in search, so it doesn't come up easily or it brings up AH2 content. Did the flight model change at all from AH2 to AH3?
I'm somewhat familiar with the Skyr accusations. I believe they revolved around him reportedly being banned for tracking other players with shades. While I believe that's likely an advantage of sorts, I've never seen anything that suggests his actual flying was illegitimate. In fact, the video they posted along with the AH film file seems to prove he was legitimate in terms of skill, if not just an bellybutton at times.
As much as I dislike the stigma around it, his channel really does seem to be the most popular and largest for AH3. We really need more current AH3 streamers and content makers. It's kind of sad that we have this amazing game from Hitech and almost no one is making content for it now... and the vast majority of this content is almost halfa decade old.
I did message him to see if he had any other videos and he sent me several links to more recent gameplay which was hidden/unlisted on his channel, along with duels to other players. I guess this wasn't his only training video, he just doesn't make most of them public. I asked him to publish whatever he could and he said he had a few fights with certain players in mind he'll be publishing soon.
On the topic of training, I noticed in the video he seems to use a HUD ladder. Does anyone know why? It seems to me to be a bit useless.
Would any current players be up for making content or streaming? Is there a list of AH content pages or channels anywhere on the forums?

While I didn't watch the film, I can answer the question of the title.
I fly with a mouse and keyboard. That means I use my keyboard for rudder, flaps, and views with one hand while using my other hand on a mouse to navigate my plane.
If you use flight controls and track-ir and you have difficulty dueling me, you should seek a trainer ASAP.
You can also message your brother for films of the other duels we have had and ask him what went wrong on his end.
Good luck in your training endeavors. :salute.
I suggest looking for other outlets.

Thanks for the offer, Sik! I'll hit you up here when I've got some time. My playtime is sporadic at best at the moment, but I look forward to learning whatever I can from you.

Do yourself a favor. Film your flights and fights. Its very helpful to see what you did right or wrong. Don’t get discouraged. We all started as new. It will come to you. And remember, while you learn, you’re flying against the most seasoned pilots in the genre, some of us have been st it 20-35 yrs, you’re learning from high caliber. Its where you want to be. :)

do you not like the mouse and keyboard controls? I've always found them more precise than joysticks. I flew with a mouse and keyboard for the first half of my AH time. I was actually much more precise with my mouse and keyboard, but I had less buttons and the layout was less ergonomic. I ended up using something like this for my rudder control and function keys: https://a.co/d/6fMeI7u
most gaming tournaments have classes or divisions for mouse and keyboard users because they're so much more precise over controllers and joysticks. But, nothing quite feels like a proper joystick in a sim.

In terms of shooting, I think the precision of the mouse holds the upper hand. In terms of precise control of your airplane and being able to track opponents, especially in high traffic areas, is a huge disadvantage.

Obvious Skyyr trolling here. Post should be locked. Skyyr has uploaded 4 videos in the last day of AH fights with Lazer and Dolby. I bet he's seething at the mouth that he can't play. 🤣

As much as I dislike propagating any Skyyr content, I have to agree to agree that this is just trolling and attention seeking. The guy used to talk about himself on vox pretending to be other people for years. Obvious self esteem issues, shared by some of his insane fanbois that keep bringing his name up, forgetting that he always was and always will be an unadulterated cheater.

Hi Palace Cobra,
Sorry for the belated response.
The following comments are not only intended for you, as they apply equally to anyone who might be genuinely interested in learning about air combat.
The Youtube video mentioned may inspire viewers to look for more information on the subject, which is a good thing, but a word of caution if I may.
There is little doubt that winning a fight can provide enough credibility to impress a viewer to want more. But you need to be careful, because although you may feel as though you have gained knowledge and understanding, that can be deceptive. Allow me to explain:
Firstly, this film should have triggered alarm bells because it begins with an ad hominem attack on the character of the other player involved while aggrandising the presenter. The film therefore appears to be motivated by a desire to discredit and embarrass the player who appears in the film, rather than a genuine desire to be helpful or informative to others like yourself who are simply hoping to learn. Not a good start.
Secondly, many of the technical descriptions and explanations relating to the air combat shown in the video are wrong, as are many of the names and explanations of the maneuvers. Other critical points have been omitted. You may feel as though you have learned from that, but the explanations provided are going to conflict with reliable sources you find and are certain to make real learning and deeper understanding more difficult and lead to confusion. That will hinder your progress and make it difficult for you to recover and improve. That's not the sort of handicap anyone needs while trying to learn.
When you start to learn something new it is important that you are exposed to correct terminology and explanations as early as possible so that you gain a proper understanding of the underlying principles. That way you will be able to correctly recognise and identify them when they occur in your fights. You will be able to reinforce what you learn from a variety of sources until with practice you are able to apply them correctly in the future. The information provided in that video contains so many errors and omissions it is unlikely to be helpful to you in that respect. And judging from your enthusiasm for the new knowledge gained from that video, it sounds as though it may have already done more harm than good.
My advice would be to find some reputable sources of information, such as Shaw's book “Fighter Combat”, or some of the real military training documents that are easy to find on the internet. If you use those to at least learn the terminology and basic principles of air combat, you should find it a little easier to discuss those ideas with others and recognise misinformation when it is presented, no matter how inspirational it may seem at the time.
Hope that helps
Kind regards
Badboy

So true. I have often noticed during my career how much easier it was to teach something to a total newcomer than to someone who has learned wrong tactics. I've had gray hair more than once with someone used to shoot targets w/ .22 with one hand from 25 meters. Teaching them or pistol silhouette shooters tactics how to survive in gunfight can drive any instructor nuts. Let alone those who have gained master degree from action movies...
Idk you pulled some voodoo magic with that p38j and spilled some Margherita into my engine and I died the other night :rofl
You probably ran into one of the parts that fell off my bird. They are so used to falling off, they do so even when I am flying with no enemy around. :joystick:

Yep, after reading the original post, my feeling was that the original poster was most likely the same guy who made the video.
The narrative added to the video is so blatantly wrong it is pure comedy and probably just a set up as well.
But, if I can prevent one genuine player from being sucked in by that nonsense it will have been worth feeding the troll.
I've been flying a lot lately, do you get into the MA much these days?
Kind regards
Badboy
Agree Badboy. More of an ego chest thumping than a training source. After the first name calling, credibility disappeared.

Of course it is the poster in the video..
He beat Lazer in the k4 with a dt one..Lazer beats most in MA and always held his own in KOTH
The guys ego is sickening and hurts participation in h2h as no one wants to be embarrassed on the internet ...or risk that possibility..
It could be a great advertisement for the free open to the public AH dueling arena if the egotistical narrative wasn't there but it is this instead

Video was Skyr's....YES Palace Cobra IS NOT Skyr! I have no proof. Evidence I have is pure circumstantial. See the post I made before yours, Sir? Lets say, i know a niece of a guy, that knows a guy, who knows a niece of a guy? Sure...it might be I am wrong, as he was busted for using Shade Accounts to "Torment" for lack of better term, other players. Thus all had passwords and such...eh doesnt really matter. Guy is banned and Other Guy is trying to keep his mentor relevant, or so it seems?

Ya he’s not fun in country.
That was a really fun fight!!! I was less fighting and more trying to be annoying and get the ords. I might have dropped the vh on that trip too I don't remember. I think your other planes were expecting me to scoot away and climb. My flip around seemed to surprise them which helped me get to the bunkers a tad easier but they caught up quick. I did not record that one so not sure who or what actually shot me.
Lots of fun! :salute

Ertus doesnt seem to be cheating to me and as far as I know Skyyr's cheating was limited to abusing multiple accounts to track people. Also utilizing friends on other countries to help hunt people. I dont think he was ever accused of true "hacking". I have fought Ertus several times since hes been back. I have no doubt that it is Skyrr based on the way he flies. I will say that he is way less careful than he used to be which makes for much better fights. Other certain people will refuse to ever give up their E\alt advantage and it gets boring because I really cant be bothered to go above 8-9k most of the time now days.

I would be absolutely amazed if anyone would spend the time to hack the code of this game. Most games that have cheaters are not cracked by the cheaters themselves. Rather cracked by an industrious tech wizard who then sells the cheats to the low life players who use them. A game with such a small, refined, long term player base would be poor business for the wiley entrepreneur. It happened a few times in the past when there were 1000s of subscribers. But now?

I wouldn't be amazed in the slightest, I for one know the extent and lengths he will go to. The motivation brought on by excessive narcissism is definitely there. It's got to be to the point that he has to be numero uno, I bet if he gets bopped from Fighter Rank 1 he'd stop flying for a while :old:

There are nowadays those who sell hacks for online games. IMHO it's bit naïve to think AH was or is totally hack free.
