I have always thought AH is great value for money :aok
I wish High tech etc would put a business plan together to build it up again. Lots of players getting older with more time to play and it may have not got the latest eye candy but the model of flight and battle is second to none. I tried Il2 and DCS and they look pretty but need high spec PC'S and lack realism by comparison. What we need though is people not AI.
-
My only criticism was the "Brewster Buffalo". Somehow a plane of choice in AH but apparently rubbish IRL. Virtually every other model seemed consistent with history to a magnificent degree. :aok :aok

ZE has become quite proficient in a Brew. Don’t underestimate it when you see it.
Its all personal preference.
Saddle up, its still a blast.
Between 7p-10p CST, is considered prime time.

I came back to AH last January after a 16 year hiatus. I deleted my subscription last month on the 20th of October. Downloaded DCS and IL-2. Played both for about 1 week. Deleted both of them immediately and continued to play AH offline for a few weeks and came back to the MA a few days ago. The AH AI is fine for practice and experimenting with various settings but like you wrote, “what we need is people”. There is nothing quite like fighting in a good fireball with players willing to look after one another or a good, all alone one on one. Pure immersion!

Depends on what version and who flew it (https://www.historynet.com/brewster-buffalo-finland/).

Hi YArbles,
Come back, this simulator still a good one with a lot of fun...
Regard the Brewster is the only plane I fly.It have many weakness but quite fun on close combat. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but the one in the game is more related to the Finland F2A-1 variant designated Model B-239E.In the game have limitations therefore need to be carefull before be compromise into a figth...

Currently about 400-500 subs I'd imagine. Mornings to afternoon are about 35 online depending on the map. Evenings about 100. I think there's about 5 maps that could be removed that would do wonders to bring backs #s during the weekends. People just don't stay logged in long enough when there are far flights with not much battle action on a huge map with everyone spread out.
The Brew is fun plane. But its more for moderate to advanced sticks given it's speed. Or you need to get high and stay high and not get caught up TnB. Which is almost impossible in that thing. Just need to be prepared for constant defense ACM which takes practice. Still a pretty tough game, so just have fun and don't take too seriously. :salute

Only HiTech knows the number of subscriptions.
Last tour there were 767 pilots with at least one kill or death in the MA. But of course, I don't know the number of multiple accounts, nor the number of players who paid but didn't play. :old:

If Zack was at his/her majesties for 5 years it will be because he gets to do 2 of his favorite things every day:
1) Eat processed meat.
2) Slop out.
He is only putting himself up for parole to annoy me and and generally let the air out of any other arm chair generals.
I am writing to the King to ask they extend his sentence indefinitely as he is an encourage able known recidivist, all round degenerate and northerner :old:

To be honest it is very hard to get in the clink nowadays.
First attempt I dressed up like a lady and demanded rights to go into women’s bathrooms while singing Elton John ballads.
The second attempt was glueing myself to a statue of Oliver Cromwell “The hammer of the Irish”
I finally got on his majesty pleasure by saying all Southern softies like fettling dogs as a hobby.

Zack has chippy tea every night except Monday when he goes to Bingo.

No Offence but I have known Zack since he was artistic director of the Moore Marriott society. I was junior deputy vice president at the time and even then he had a reputation as a bit of an after dinner speaker.
I hope that clears things up better than the penicillin did.

I know you :rock
I would introduce you, you stood up, your trousers fell down. Comedy gold in the great music hall tradition. Standing room only
Woolen combination and gaiters.
You would point at the gaiters and say "With these apples Mrs could be a rat up a drainpipe"
It was your trademark and nowadays would make a cheeky tee shirt slogan.

Anyway we was all daaan in the shelter and dad says. If you "ruined my tea" to mother "I will give you a claaaat round the ear ole"
Mum says "steady on Ernie, Jerry is paaaaanding us tonight". (It was a big raid, even their majesties took one in the greenhouse)
So there it is is :aok
And that is how it is done.

That is totally rock and also roll. The more recent games with the eye candy don't have those kind of numbers and need very high end graphics cards. I am going to put my enormous weight behind this again and hope :D
I think the flight model here is the best and if we don't have the eye candy we do have the real people on the other end to piss off which is the game :old:

If there is one thing I would change about AH is I would make it Axis v Allies in the MA but I am sure there is a reason why not.
There is the game aspect but also the re enactment aspect for us older fellas and that is a big part of scenario. Cliffs Il2 and DFS Normandy are no where near as good as AH but they do have history to get excited about.
I know we have A v A but in my ideal world we would have AVA rolling WW2 through the month. Get early month WW2 B OF B, Then Pearl Harbor, Midway etc up to Bombing Germany and Japan and release the maps and aircraft etc
Unlikely but fun xx

There's going to be a few more soon. I expect to be back within a month or sooner if work slows down enough to play with my new computer.
I'll be coming back with Jarbo, his next door neighbor and one of my childhood friends who's into DCS & expensive game controllers already.

Note this painting demonstrates the Gestalt principle that the whole is greater than some of its part constructed of meaningless pixels.
Zack will now disprove that by demonstrating he is considerably less than the sum of his parts in their unique grotesque configuration :neener:
Personally lets get back in, pay our subs and give high tech a decent pension fund :pray
What do they do in Texas ?
When my daughter was growing up I could have a good night in as sociable as a night out without a baby sitter. Arguing the toss on here. If I could get the sprog to bed and the Mrs to go out and moan to her women chums about how I liked to spend all my time playing silly computer games. Meanwhile I was at home drinking beer and winning world war 2 single handed. Priceless :aok
Those of us who had a PC at work and very little to do could carry on arguing about what happened the night before or the result of some particular duel fought for months on end with threads running to hundreds of pages. All for about $15 a month and ex players could fight the forum wars for nothing having not played for years but still working through some slight or disagreement that had stuck in their metaphorical craw.
High tech etc would periodically impose discipline and then that would give rise to highly emotional debate on the rights of man and abuses of power. It was Brilliant and surely allot more than the sum of a video game and some forumns. Hence the painting.

If it were that good then where have you been for t'last eight years, flying rubber dog turds out of Hong Kong in a DCS Transavia Airtruk with a My Little Pony paint job?
Hark at 'im with his fangled Southern ways dropping in and trying to organise everyone all of a sudden with no inclin' of the three forum World Wars he's missed since. We've all got PTSD. Zack hasn't been in t'clink, he's been in the mental ward dying from persistant laughing syndrome after the ICOM rabble didn't like being told to 'Read a book, fatty'. I had to bust him out like Murdock from the A team.
Send me a Cornish Pasty Yarbles, I haven't had one in two decades. Otherwise get stuffed! :old:

Scenario starts Saturday. British 2nd Tactical Air Force vs. The Jerries. We will have the gorgeous Spitfire, the mighty Typhoon, and the Wooden Wonder.
The big question: will we have some pilots with real British accents on the allied side? The difficulty to overcome: it starts at 7 pm US Eastern time, which is 11:59 pm London time on Saturday.

Zack, do you hear that? Are you going to let Yarbles have all the fun?
By the way, I went to The Pub in Nashville and had fish and chips and an Old Speckled Hen. Almost as good as the Golden Hind in London. No mushy peas, though. Next time I go, I will drink a toast to Yarbles. And Zack, if you don't fly in the scenario, I'm going to find something there to put yellow mustard on.

Still getting set up and may take a week but got a peek at the MA map via Bruv. It's only Bally Blighty and Europe all divided into 3 sides. We could fly out of Biggin Hill, Manston or Duxford etc or alternatively Bomb Berlin (or Liverpool :D)
I think Shida is in Holland. We can bomb him and all. The lousy commie, conchie, blighter and up hill gardener.

Blew a whole channel of MOSFETs on my Sidewinder and swore I would not fight again with disadvantaged equipment. There's a way to upgrade a Sidewinder but I'm still waiting on the parts which you can normally only order in the thousands and want to finish my custom stick to attach that too. It's a lot of work and I have other things to do presently <Shrug>

I waiting to get my AH merkin back from the vets. I can't be expected to fly without that unless I can borrow one of Zack's. Then when old Barnes Wallace has solved cold fusion and finished fiddling with his stick we can get the band back together :headscratch:

Where's Bruv and all the rest of The Few that popped of to pastures greener?
I joined the mighty "Bruvinator" on il2 "Cliffs of Dover" then DFS (120 GB Download) Normandy. (I know how to prime, generally set up and manage a spit engine and trim now like an actual spit pilot). To be competitive though one needs VR and about a £3000 PC. Then the planes are modules you have to buy, there are only about 8 aircraft, the flight model is dubious and the luft planes are 1945 while allied about 1943. Finally it relies too heavily on AI. For the cost of the kit and the level of commitment to be able to get a plane of the ground (Several hours set up and practice as each plane is different and it is a real sim) 30 humans per arena is a busy night. Maps are bought also and arenas are hosted by players so a serious upper limit of maybe 100 or rent a server. Great experience for sure but there is constant trim and engine management issues to deal with which are fun but before you can even think about SA. Then its a no icon model so looking for dots and the set up and quality of PC then plays a huge part. If you have the money and want to get seriously into flying WW2 aircraft brilliant but a huge commitment. No going for a wee on auto pilot and you really have to have your head permanently on a swivel if you want to spot the hun in the sun.
So my conclusion. AH graphics are not great but adequate but the choice, value for money, flight model etc are excellent. Cliffs and DFS Normandy are fun but you cannot relax and DFS is very expensive. There is no on board radar and you spend allot of time learning landmarks and trying to find your squaddies etc and straining your eyes. It does seem as close to real as possible. Too real.
Bruv and I briefly got Micky and some of the other fellas interested in DFS but with the new maps and the return to a much more accesable AH we are seeing a virtual Zimmer Framed stampede to get back in the action.
What makes the fun is flying against and with real people. :rock
All the graphics and VR in the world do not improve on that.
When you see a burning aircraft spinning toward the ground you want to know there is a real person in there :devil :devil :D
-
DFS = DCS right?
that has been my experience too..
And vr isn't near as good in il2 or dcs as it is in AH
They are very pretty but just not near the fun imo
