Title: AH3 Ad voice-over draft
Post by: Animl-AW on December 08, 2024, 06:39:10 PM
My attempt at an ad. Unfortunately, I'm struggling to get it below 1 minute, currently at 1:06, it should be closer to 30 sec. Video will follow, since it will need to be set to te voice-over script.
Any opinions are welcome.
What's kept, what's dropped.

Looks good. Are u using Wondershare Filmora to create it? I have made some training films for work with it. Made few Aces High films that bland. Films do help to get prople interested

Very informative of the aspects. Simultaneous action film or photo would add to it. Good commentary. :aok
Cheers, One-eye

This is just the voice-over part to get the timing on 1 min right. Video clips will be inserted on top of it.
Using Vegas Pro 21 for video compiling.

Animal, have you watched/listened to the original commercials that aired on History Channel? Coach (Skip Headen) a former squaddie in The Flying Circus did the voiceovers....you two sound like brothers. Well done :rock

Ya, like music, the construction concept is based on what I saw/heard already. So it will be similar, but updated visuals. The ones I saw were during AH2.
Basically the script is taken from the web page, which bonds them together.
30 secs is the TV affordable route and it reaches the short attention span, its restrictive on the major points that need to fit in and then get lost in cuts. Even at 1 minute a lot was cut out. I started at 1:30. Fitting it all in gives me no breaks.
So I’m building video around script rather than vise-versa.
I have doubts, even if it turns out good enough, HTC would afford TV time. But it give something for players to share outside the bubble. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

He's stated multiple times that advertising isn't going to happen again.

Yes, I’m aware. I musta looked at 500 on YT videos last night. Very few had more that 300 views over 7 yrs. Even on HTC YT page. Either google, like YT put most visited sights on top. Just sitting there probably hasn’t done much. There has to be an easy 10k vids out there.
Between HTC site and YT MotA has gotten almost 1,400 views, about 15-30 per day. But that video tells more about one scenario, not the aspects of the game. Many of those views are current players. I don’t think it reaches outside the bubble enough, its long.
I absolutely don’t think it will make earth spin backwards. However, when we were working on numbers prior to MotA, these guys posting on other sites brought in 40-60 players, return or new. We didn’t have much of anything fresh for them to use. But when MotA was over and the effort dropped so did numbers as we weren’t getting replacement numbers. Or they didn’t look far for material and most, including mine, are too long for short attention spans some sites hold. Those efforts, without tv, got us up from 112-120 to 160-200 without an ad vid.
This isn’t taking much effort or time. If it can get 2k views and 20 players it was worth the time. If we can get those on bbs and 200 to keep drama low while/if we get players it would also help.
Lets cut to it, its not going to drag in 2k players. But If it can help get us back to 160-200 it would get it in the right direction again. We hut a bad road that disrupted our momentum with the YKW and a sim selling on our boards and other crap. I want 250 in the MA. Its a reasonable goal.
Again, nothing ventured, nothing gained. <shrug> I might have a few hours into it. MotA was over 100 hrs, because of 30 hrs of films to go through.
Even if it were to get used by HTC, which I doubt, its 100% royalty free.

If this is actually used, I'd suggest dropping the "hundreds" of players and "massive" dogfights and raids. It just isn't that game anymore and a new player might feel mislead on his first login -- not a way to generate goodwill.

Well, I get your point, not sure if you’re serious. But good point.
The way I’m looking at it, it is setup for “massive” and compared to other sims over 100 would me considered massive. And of course we once had 100s and hope to get it into the 200s.
Yep, there is a gray area on those two words. But since I’m not always right, I’ll wait to see if anyone else chimes in on this subject. why I posted the voice-over first. In RL there would be a panel going over the script over and over until it gets condensed. VO sets the timeline for a short 1 min.
Side note, not that its some epic world changing project, it is 95% done. I just need AH films of GVs and ships. I did gain about 6 secs back I’m looking for a way to get rid of. If nothing else there will be a web version of about 1:06-1:10. If miracles happen and it were to be used officially, like TV, I’d just cut out the VR segment or something that may repeat and re-rack time alignment to 1 min. 30 secs would be cheaper, but way too much is lost, edited out, but is setup to be done.
I will say this, this vid moves, like on rocket fuel.
The current script;
** Aces High is a massive multiplayer online combat simulation centered around the World War II air war.
Created in 1999, Aces High has provided over 25 years of thrilling air, land and sea battles.
Aces High takes the art and science of vintage World War One and World War Two air combat and sets it in a high intensity online multiplayer environment. Hundreds of players simultaneously battle it out against each other in massive aerial dogfights and bomber raids.
High fidelity flight simulation is the heart of Aces High, but it doesn't end there. A war rages on the ground and at sea. Engage enemy armor in tank combat. Protect your fleet as a gunner or make a torpedo run in a PT boat. Lead an assault in an amphibious vehicle.
Take part in special events such as historical scenarios where famous battles are recreated and re-imagined.
With over 100 warbirds, vehicles, and boats available, you have access to a vast virtual arsenal.
Enjoy superior implementation of the use of Virtual Reality.
In the air, on land, and at sea, the battle rages 24 hours a day with participants from around the world.

"centered around the World War II air war"..
You could change that to "air, ground and naval war" and be accurate these days

Actually thought of similar today. While this one covers main parts, as you say follow ups in different categories is a thought. I’ll see how this one goes over first. Maybe.
I think scripted narration can be helpful.
Right now I’m re-racking scenes because I don’t care for the clips I used so far, I almost never do.
Air, land and sea is mentioned twice and seen in logo (3). It will be done in scenes too (4). Let me look at that idea more.
But hey, any suggestions are welcome, why I posted it before I finished.
I think I’m dumping the two words mentioned above. Was a good point.

There is so much I should add. But hard to fit in 1 min. Shorter films are harder, at least for me. I’m trying to figure out how to fit training in without omitting anything.
I’ll put out a draft with visuals shortly.

Aces High III - Ad-Draft Not a finished product.
1:19 <shrug>
I'm O. K. with the clips, but open to changing them if someone has a better clip or idea. Script is kinda concrete, unless there's an error. But if something needs to be added then something else has to go. Time-element.

Pretty damn good. If I was Youtube browsing and came across that, I'd check it out.
Maybe it gets shown in the Steam community somehow? Maybe Steam themselves put it somewhere where it'll be seen?
