Enabling GV icon dar in MA (with a 30 sec+ delay) and only allowing other GVs to see it would be quite a fun game changer in providing faster moving tactical engagements. :x
It's easily doable via settings that already exist. And it makes for some fun Tank Night Thursday action already. :rock
And it would remove whines about exiting game to check film for gv locations. :noid
Plus - the ground "war" wasn't a few tanks running around like a big game hunter in the wilderness.
-
I agree, with the caveat that wirbs generate a 3k icon for aircraft.
-
Delay would be a great comprise imo

Agree. The bush hiding is out of control.

I don’t get it.
Whats the matter with GVs hiding. Its not only smart people t was s natural tactic even today in real war.some think its an old western where ya step out into the dirt road and call “draw”.
Its the nature of the beast

Bad analogy - in the war tanks didn't stumble around solo in an unmapped wilderness with no stable reference points. At least with planes there's a semblance of mirroring real tactics.

I always find who I am looking for.
I don't need a crutch nor do I need an enemy player leaning hard on that crutch.

I beg to differ, as in the game, tanks had specific targets, and objectives. Add to that the gv dar, that's just about as stable a reference as you can get.

With supporting infantry, scouting reports, lay of the land, maps that had actual roads in a world that made sense.
Using your logic, why do we need icon and range data on planes? Why should GV's get icon and range data on planes? Explain it in a way that makes sense.

Thats a bit extreme, maybe a GV icon on map, not visible icon in flight for 30 seconds after receiving an enemy hit to simulate its location being reported to the country.
-
Heck I meant a dar delay on everything including bombers and fighters

I use it every week in Tank Night's just because you see the Gv Icon it doesn't mean they are actually there , but it give you a General area of when 1 or 3 players could be at..... Actually makes the gv part a little more fun .

My 2 cents:
It's all a crutch that's kinda difficult to balance. The real problem is the terrain that came with AH3. While it was a much required upgrade and looks so much better than the old, it really messed with GV combat. In AHII, you could hide from planes, but that cover was more sparse. But more importantly, you could not hide forever from enemy GV like you can do on many maps in AHIII because of the thick undergrowth. You could only hope to be overlooked for some time, but not forever (or someone looks at the film)

This is a still from an old AH2 TankTown film. An enemy tank could blend in and hide under the trees to be reasonable safe from aerial spotting, but you are never totally blocked from enemy GV.
The old terrain also made vehicle choices much more varied. The object list at the beginning of said film shows 25 Panzer, 5 M4, 5 T34, 4 M18, 3 Hetzer, 3 Panther, 2 Jagdpanther 2 M3, 2 Tiger
and 1 A20, Fi156, Jagdpanzer IV and Tiger 2 each. Vehicles like Hetzer and Jagdpanzer have almost become extinct today.

GVs were so visable in AH2 I used to pick off wirbs from 5k using level bombers and the bombsight.

Excellent idea Shane, I would also like to add maybe not have GV engines start as soon as you spawn. This can be disabled in planes (turn off auto take off) but not GVs. Give guys a chance to fight back when a spawn is being camped.
Also, when radar tower is down, maybe the GV dar gets bigger (4 squares). Kind of crappy when radar tower is down a set of bombers can hide at 20k, but GV dar is still accurate.

If you hit the "E" key right after you hit the spawn button the GV wont start. The engine start sound does start to play for you, but others wont hear it so you spawn silent.
The GV dar isnt "radar" per say, it simulates spotters reporting in and such so radar being down shouldnt wouldnt be effected by radar being down.

This is what shane is trying to suggest,,,,,, Yes we already have a GV dar bar but with this feature we use a 30 second delay for Thursday Night Tank Night .So even if you see a GV icon on the map, It does not mean they are in the same spot. We have Plane Icon's Bomber Icon's and pt boat icons in the game so this Gv Icon wouldn't be hard to add to the existing game just a radar setting icon delay in the Ma. Hope this helps everyone who was wondering about the Gv Icon to be added.
