Post by: 1Cane on August 28, 2025, 12:54:04 PM
Ordered and received stick in less than a week
Game recognizes stick
Very smooth but rudders function is backward, right is left, left is right
I cannot get drivers to download keep getting blocked by me media player
Spent several hours with ms support made it to third tier tec, updated drivers game clarity is just great.
Anyone no way to bypass ms media player

While I do suggest downloading the VKB configurator software and calibrating the stock there first, I might suggest reversing the rudders in the AH controls > advanced panel and checking the "reverse inputs" box or whatever its called for the rudders. If all you are playing is AH, that may be all you need rather than wrangling the VKB configurator-which is a pretty powerful and complex piece of software.

Invert axis in AH Advanced scaling section for that rudder axis

Edit:
You also may want to enable scaling for the rudder and set all sliders about 45%, straight across.

  After over a week impressions
Far smoother than X56
Unhappy with one hat switch ordered new grip for $70 dollars but wait DHL shipping $31 dollars after 5 days notified tariffs $44,So my new grip ends up costing more than I Paid for stick.
If it doesn't ship from amazon you will pay extra.
On climb out I like to fly away from target until I am 50% desired attack altitude back over field. In long sweeping turns pretty much peg the vsi.
I am unhappy with quick adjustments while in gun site.
Still playing with dead band and damping.
My hit percentage has dropped off fly strictly attack mode now.
In practice arena rocket hits about 90%
On start up have to plug unplug usb this is intermittent pc doesn't recognize
Changed spring's for lighter feel.
Waiting for new grip before I contact VKB

As you know you have 3 sets of different springs and two screws inside to adjust tension. On my stick, all I use is scaling on the rubber,....Deadband and damping sliders are in the basement (off) for everything, not used at all. If you do you'll get variations in travel when you pass center, that may trigger bounce

If the devices are brand new why do you need to set dead pan and damping?

My hotas doesn't have any..when I  move it, it moves immediately..

Because some of us are very heavy handed. When we learned most sticks were junk and you really had to yank them around. Now with the nice smooth sticks we have to train ourselves out of that habit. Adding some damping helps to slow those responses down and smoothing out the input.

Much depends on the gimbal style of the stick. This vid explains a lot of that https://animl-aw.com/flight-control-reviews/.

The very best thing, as long as the stick travel is smooth crossing center then you are best training muscle memory to no dead bands or damping, light handling. As Fugi stated. If your muscle memory of an old stick you have to retrain that change. Instead some just dead band and dampen the guts out of it rather than retrain muscle memory.

This page deals with the gimbal passing center and how dead band and damping can destroy that smoothness when crossing center and/or aiming. Its done with a very old worn out stick. But with VKB gimbal it uses none of that.

New grip finally showed
Flashing red light had to calibrate
MS wont allow download
Watched video used Winnrenn
MS media player blocked opening
Downloaded Adobe and opened
Never could get the start button to work per video, finally not sure what I did but calibrate appeared and I was in.
It is far superior to last grip, very smooth no need for adjustment's
3 hat switches vs 1
I am a happy camper
If you buy one be sure to get the EVO model with 3 hat switches "only 4 way not 8"

It really is a great stick.

The top left hat is an 8 way, though it does not have the same tactile 'click' as a hat switch most of us are used to.

Build sheet says 3 4way hat switches
Top left hat switch has a push in function can that change views to 8 way?

I believe that is correct. It can go from an axis to an 8 way with the push, and indicator light will tell you which mode you're in. Labeled A1.

It's really a bummer that the bottom center hat (A3) is not an 8 way as that is more traditional. Can't even make it an 8 way as movement is blocked, I don't know if the switch can be replaced with other parts to make it functional as an 8 way. I use the top right (A4) as trim up/down.

I am probably one of the least computer qualified persons in the game. I have sent two request to VKB support both answered within 48 hours with personal email detaied on what to do. I am slowly digesting the info. Their support is far greater than Logitech in my opinion.

I was checking into the button change when shopping which VKB stick to buy, thinking I like the stick but wanted 8 way and if I could change it. SO FAR, my findings were no. WWII has 8-way, so I took it. Trade off, WWII has less buttons.

My old X56 throttle was getting  glitchy still had some use left. With the tariff situation it might be double current price so bought a new throttle.  Watched 2 videos on install of throttle installation was flawless. Worked right out of box.
There is no friction lock ,have noticed no drift.
Big surprise is 8 way switch for the views
Big plus has two triggers ,makes secondary much easier
Will be using this trigger  because it has much better feel than stick
Only problem is using new switches to memory
Hat switches are precise compared to X56
Far smoother than old stick, I am pleased with it

Ya, Spikes sold me on it. Love it. Vast improvement from x52 HOTAS. I still use x52 throttle fir the buttons, my trigger is thumb button on throttle, my trigger button on VKB stick is my look up button, top thumb button secondary trigger

That sounds realistic lol..

I think my stick throttle combo is the best bang for the buck these days but then I use my jstick trigger as a trigger  :joystick:

I use throttle button for trigger to separate the movements. You're not squeezing the stick while trying to turn and twist rudder to. That's 3 movements in one place while triangulating shots. It separates it mentally. and cleaner shots. Most who first try it think it feels odd, but once you get used to it you won't go back. IMO
