Found CK/WB in august of 95 I think it was .83 ck beta or something. First words online were "do I need a joystick to play this?" :D Wow what a life changer that was! Flew AW3D for about 2 weeks when it came out in the box form, couldn't handle the damage model though so I went back to $WB$.
Been in AH since alpha :)
-
Hmmmm do I count? Started in 0.99 (with like 3 days of free play left) played for a month, and came back around 1.04 or so? Don't remember version numbers exactly. But played up thru 2.72 or so.
But I also played AW at the same time, when I hit my "limit" on $$$ each month.
So am I a wayward AW pilot or and old WB's pilut?
NEITHER!! I'm an AH pilot who has flown here since the first day of open beta :p
-
CK 0.83ish as -vlcn- then WB thru til the AH beta as -vlkn-
-
WB...'94-'99 'full time'.
'pips' (shared account) ->
'-14-' (trivia...WB Fw 190A-8 paint scheme based on my handle, i.e. they based it on my handle after they found out what my handle stood for!) ->
'-wulf-' ->
'wulfie'.
In addition I flew under a couple of 'incognito' handles from time to time.
Main reason for handle changes...had to stop playing from time to time due to finances or extended work related travel. New account usually meant you had to come up with a new handle.
Most of my WB time spent in JG 14 'The Jagermeisters'.

AW dos, CK 82 which went to warbirds

<raises hand>
Was there for WAY TO MUCH MONEY SPENT! Then I left the online world for a while and came back in FA and the open beta of AH. I bounced around in between FA and AH for a while just because I could not justify WB dollar wise again (wife and kid).

Started flying Warbirds in 1998 through 2000 with the Haze 100th F/B group.
tried AH when it was open beta for a couple of weeks and died a lot. Went back to the F-15 ladder I was on and played that until summer of 2000 when I tried AH again for two weeks. Came back in October and activiated my account

Warbirds until...Aces High beta.

Played WB from 1.11 to 2.7 something.
Had a look at AW and was pretty unimpressed, so stuck to WB until I moved to AH in tour 4 or 5.
Most of my squadmates came directly from WB to here with me, add another 7 or so to this list.

CK.91 -> WB1.11r3 (briefly played WB2.0r1)...
I saw WB go from very well rendered rolling terrain (Confirmed Kill engine), to the flat low poly count terrains with ground clutter, back to very nicely done rolling terrain but didn't have some of the more interesting features of the CK engine.
Anyone remember (I don't remember where), the elevated canyon v.91 and previous?
Some cool fights were in there. And CK had factories, I remember those- they never made it over to WB though. (of course, they didn't do anything in CK either)

WB 1.09 till the version in place around Dec '96, when I switched to Net Duel (Fighter Duel on Kali) to try to recover from all the $$$ I spent on WB. I then flew the original version of FA for a while (as a "Musketeer") before joining AH on day one of the beta. Also flew a lot of Flying Circus (I liked the early versions better than the later versions).

Long live v1.11r2

Yes, V1.11 was the best. That was a long time ago in a galaxy far, far way.

Hey thanks for posting this, I like to see where folks origins came from. :)
I never had the privledge to fly Warbirds. Once I was looking for a differnt sim, I looked to Aces High and saw no need to look further, though many of my squad tried WBs.
Looks like alot of great experience here :)

I flew Warbirds beginning with WB 2.0 beta for MacOS in January, 1998 (I have fond memories of $10/unlimited beta flight time). Joined 303 (Polish) Squadron RAF in June 1998. In fact, I believe I was fd-ski's 1st non-Polish recruit! :) Heck, I have more seniority in the Northolt Wing than FunkedUp! :D
Joined AH in June, 2000 and dropped WB a few months later.

Started in WB with the RNZAF using a Pentium 133Mhz, (waves hi to tronski and laika above). Still using the same stick as then I grew to love the 109 and specifically the K4 variant. Favourite memories are winging in 109's with laika, vulchfests in the training arena, (everyone in the squad takes off from one field in one plane type and try to kill your squaddies for 10 minutes), to races in B17's into enemy territory at 20ft AGL and the whole squad in Ju52's dropping over a hundred paratroops to capture a field with the AAA still up =)
Bailed out of WB when HTC offered me the chance to alpha test this puppy. Been here since .26 and never looked back.

Lt (Buhd) Lite, here. Flew WB in the days before any significant digits before the decimal point. I remember my first flight out of F1 (the proverbial furball base). I was so naive I actually asked for permission to take off! Permission was gladly granted, too. I think I retracted my gear before I was destroyed ;) It was all down hill from there.
Buhdman, out

Wow! I didn't know that Kiljoy was Rexx! :)
Long time, Rexx. What I wouldn't give to relive that "Fortress Germany" scenario again.

CK/Wb - .84 until 2.something (2000)
flew with VF-17
Had a rest for 18 months and now flying AH with the MOL (some of them were VF-17 for a while - popeye, archer, dago)
AH is pretty damn good :)
-
I was -WDGE- in CK from .91 - end of beta. I actually subscribed for WB 1.05 or so for a while, but couldn't afford it. CK got me hooked on online sims.
-
Started flying online in WB's 1.06 or something like that. Came to AH in beta, went back to WB's till AH matured and the SpitV stopped flying like a 190. My squad slowly migrated over here and after the =trainers= in Wb's pissed me off I dropped my account and came over to the "Dark Side".

I was, you guessed it, *Yeager* in Warbirds.
1.09 all the way to 2.5 (apr97-Nov99).
(Tried AW and quickly determined that $2 an hour was well worth the price for what I wanted to experience.)
After Dale and fellas left WBs I decided that since HT was the muscle behind WBs Id follow him through AH (Pyro is the gamebrains, HT is the code muscle). Being with a sim since day one is something that makes me proud.
Dale and crew have done a truly outstanding job with AH.

Warbirds from way back!

Moved to WB after the demise of Red Baron (was flying a Fokker when they pulled the plug on the server) I think it was an early 1.0 version that I downloaded and flew. I flew only in Green Land in the MA with the Flying Tigers (-fokr-, rekko, ugli et al)

Flew WB back in spring of '95..."Confirmed Kill" Beta. Did it for free for what seemed like 5-6 months, don't recall exactly. Averaged $150 per month bills when WB went pay-to-play until January 1998 when I moved from Pennsylvania to Mexico. Took 2.5 years off from flight sims waiting for an adequate connection down here, then joined AH in June 2000....wow. What strides were made in 2 1/2 years! And it's gettin' better all the time! :D

Do you mean JG14 from the old days with Mo, Otto (Kommandant), saci, Jagr, etc, etc? We started with SWOTL stories..then found Hi-Tech starting an in-line flight sim Warbirds! He loved our SWOTL stories (Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe..on floppies) and asked us to join the Beta for Warbirds! We evolved for years till I had a stoke (complete mem loss) and just disappeared! No one knew what happened to me! It took 4 years of mem recovery but but then Jg14 Was just a ghost! Is it still going in some or manner or is the JG14 moniker just a coincidence..as opposed to the original? Danke Horrido! Otto Jg14

Yup...started DOA in the stone age and flew it until no one was in the arena...onerka. Was a Pig Stomper. Also in Armored Assault and sometimes main arena. Came here with Mano and several other PS Piranha, Wolf, etc. when AH started a WWI arena. No one in WWI now, and I am mostly in tanks or not in...looked for a long time for a recreation of the early fun in DOA, never found it. Still go to the forum now and again to check on Sleepy and some who stayed behind.

Started playing WB in '97 and left when HiTech sold it to Wild Bill. Played as ack-ch and flew with the squadron MOL. Might have met a few of the old WB players that went to the '98 WB Con.
-
Blast from the past! Checkout the old timers in this thread. I think I personally met about half of them at the '02 con. Played AWIII then discovered WB when it was like a dollar an hour or something like that, played that off and on for about a year maybe less then heard about a new sim called Aces High in 1999 and the rest is history.
-
WB and DOA :aok
Onerka, DOA was a blast for quite a while. I wish the WW1 in here was as much fun, but I think it's very slow.
-
WB, started in late '98. Flew as -oboe- with the old 27th Sentai under aanvil and BigRed. WB was alot of fun back then, with 4 colored countries - the Barneys, Frogs, Santas and ?? Sure appreciated the $29.95 HTC flat monthly subscription fee over the $70 I was averaging in WBs.

Started in AW on GEnie flying with the squad A.C.I.D (Agents of Common Intent - Demolition). When CK/WB came about the squad disbanded and a few of us members created WoD (Wings of Death). I flew there as --ed-- and -edge-. I still have the sweatshirt and polo shirts awarded for winning duels with Dale and Pyro. Shortly after "WildBill" took over WB I went to AH and have flown as TShark ever since. Now I REALLY feel old!

Flew in Dawn of Aces, Armored Assault(tanks), and WarBirds.
Always the same callsign. I also flew Red Baron on INN before Dawn of Aces came along.

Joined WB in early '97 at the behest of a group I worked with flying a couple of T-6's and a C-45 (once in a while for close in events we took an L-5) around to air shows. Got a local squadron going using phone conference calling for coms before voice was available. We moved to AH in early beta. I flew as GronK originally, then Snork, Dagger, and others as I drifted in and out and the squadron members left or died. We did what I think was the very first AH memorial fly-by when our CO passed from cancer.
-
Hello Otto! Heard you had more kills than anybody else in Warbirds.
That would be me! Is the original Jg14 still around..or maybe some alter Kammeraden?
-
WB from 1997 until they let Crummpp do flight models, then the 475FG moved to AH. Members drifted away and I finally quit AH out of boredom. It was too hard to find an aerial fight. Everyone was in GV's after about 9 pm.
Stayed away from online games for several years until I got sucked back into WB to work on flight models. We built some awesome models, probably the most authentic outside of DCS and certainly the most authentic MMOG models.(Yes I am bragging)
HOWEVER...........
Flight models don't mean diddly poo with poor game play design and WB is tops in poorly thought out game play design not to mention crap GUI and graphics
AND
not everyone likes challenging flight models. (I am sure someone will slag me in this thread. WB is toxic as hell and those trolls won't be able to resist)
So the 475FG seems to be moving back to AH since WB game play is now officially never going to change.
I am really enjoying AHIII and I hope the constant aerial action remains when it goes into production. If it does, then we will be happy here.

Ahh the old days. Started out in WB's in 98

Moved to AH just before the upgrade to the now old AHII due to the graphics issues I was having w\ my Nvidia vid card in WBIII at that time. Can't remember the year...................
Been here since.
Ironic that I can't get into WB 2016 now due to the D3D_Compiler issue..................
This genre of game is the only game that I like to play so I support both of them and have done so for quite some time.

475th left and came here just a few weeks back...
First time in AH and the graphics, game play, and people seem to be a step up for sure.
Only flown AH III...but like what I see. Slowly adjusting to the Flight models and gunnery:)
Cheers!

I don't know if any JG14 are still around.
Hopefully if someone does know and reads this, they will let you know. :salute

I was surprised to see myself posting on this thread on the first page until I realized this thread is older than all my children by almost a decade and I made the original post while I was still a kid.

WB relative newcomer (since early 2013), just switched and subscribed to AH III. Same handle all around (alkali).
