Title: Fruda's Dedicated Sound Packs
Post by: Fruda on December 29, 2004, 07:54:10 PM
I've decided to stop releasing large, "global" AH2 sound packs, in favor of dedicated packs. I'll release two packs at a time, but know this: It will take quite some time to finish every plane.

So far I've done the P-51's and Spitfires, all zipped into two different packs. These are of the highest quality possible, and I'll be updating as soon as I get more source material.

My next project is a P-38/Me 109 pack... Look out for it, as it may come sooner than you expect :aok .

Go here to get the P-51 and Spitfire packs. They're in .RAR format and shouldn't take long to download.

Fruda is it ok if i combine the sounds you have released into one file and put them on the USMC website for download?

I like the P-38 sounds. Thanks for sharing.

It's no problem with me, 6Gun. I release my sounds as open-source, so you can do whatever the hell you want with them (however, they will not have the *official* Fruda Seal of Quality if you remix them :lol ).

New sounds released... Updated Merlin engine sounds in the P-51 and Spitfire packs. These were taken from actual recordings, so they sound like the real thing.

Good news... I've just finished work on an updated Pratt & Whitney R-2800 engine, along with extra sounds for US Navy fighters.

This means that I'll be uploading a brand-new Corsair pack, along with a P-47 pack and a Tempest/Typhoon pack. Watch for it in the next few days :aok.

Ok, forgive my ignorance, but how do I use these .rar files once I have downloaded them?

Thanks!

Good news. I've finished some very nice sounds to coincide with the release of 2.02. This means that you'll have brand-new P-38G and J sounds!

This is gonna be great.

Three new packs, as well as updates, have just been released.

New Features and Fixes
-------------------------------

P-51 Pack: Merlin engine was too silent. Also was missing a faint grinding sound. These problems have been resolved.

Spitfire Pack: Spitfire 9 had the wrong engine sound file. This has been fixed. I've also added a stall buzzer to the Spits.

Me 109 Pack: Cleaned up the audio just a bit.

F4U Corsair Pack: Some of the Corsairs had an experimental engstart file, which I didn't mean to release. They've been replaced by newer engstart files, and sound much better.

P-38 Pack: Audio cleanup.

===================

New Pack Features
-------------------------

B-17G Pack 2.05: Eng, Engoff, and Engstart files are from a real Wright R1820 Cyclone radial engine. M2 files are recording snippets from an actual Browning machine gun. Also includes brand-new flap and gear sounds, as well as a stall clicker.

Mosquito Pack 2.05: Eng, Engoff, and Engstart files are recordings from an actual Rolls-Royce Merlin engine. 30cal files are snippets from a Browning .303 machine gun. 20mm files are recording snippets from a Hispano Mk.II cannon. Contains new flap and gear sounds, as well as a stall buzzer.

Tempest/Typhoon Pack 2.05: Eng, Engoff, and Engstart files are from a Napier Sabre engine. 20mm files are recording snippets from Hispano Mk.II and Mk.V cannons. Includes new flap and gear sounds, as well as a stall buzzer.

New packs and updates released.

Information
---------------

F4U Corsair Pack 2.08 update: New eng, engoff, and engstart sounds. These are high-fidelity Pratt & Whitney recordings, with that genuine Radial buzz.

Hawker Hurricane Pack 2.05: Genuine Rolls Royce Merlin recordings for eng, engstart, and engoff, as well as actual flap/gear sounds.

C47 Pack 2.05: Genuine Pratt & Whitney engine sounds, new flap/gear sounds, and a new stall clicker.

Bomber Pack 2.05: Updates the B-17G Pack 2.05, as well as adding new sounds for the B-24J and B-26B. The B-17G now has an actual Wright R-1820 radial engine. The B-24J has the new high-fidelity, genuine Pratt & Whitney engine sounds, as well as new flap/gear sounds. The B-26B also has the new Pratt & Whitney engine sounds, along with new flap/gear sounds.

Spitfire Pack updated.

Seems that I mixed the wrong eng files around, and didn't even include the Merlin 61! Well, that's been fixed.

The Spitfire Mk.I still contains the Merlin XX-class engine, while the Seafire II, V, and IX have the Merlin 61 engine sound (the only audible difference from lower and higher Merlins is the pitch/volume, so the 45, 61, and 66 sound virtually identical). There's quite a bit of noise difference, as the later Merlins are more powerful.

Update...

New P-51 eng sound. The eng sound in version 2.05 was taken from a modified P-51, a Reno Racer, so it wasn't exactly historically accurate. This has been fixed with a true-to-life, historcal Merlin engine sound. The pack has been updated to version 2.08.

A P-47 pack will be released soon, so all you Jug Jockies get ready!

It contains full Pratt & Whitney sounds, including engine, engine start, and shutdown, all being full-cycle. In addition to those, you get real M2 .50 Caliber sounds, a true-to-life stall clicker, and American check6/warning sounds. And on top of that is a top-notch wind/dive sound.

If you like the P-47 with defaul sounds, you'll absolutely love it with this new pack.

I gots a silly question......

Once downloaded I un rar them and place them in the AHII/sounds?  I am curently useing Mitsu's pack, but
your pack seems to have rave reviews from your users.

Thanks.:aok

That's where you place them. It's quite simple once you get the hang of it.

Bah, stupid delays. I've been working out some new Pratt & Whitney sounds, seeing which ones are the best to use. I've been comparing my engine loops with flyby footage, and it seems I've got a completely accurate one. I should have it finished soon.

Okay, I also got a silly question

So once I download I use rar to extract the files to AH2 sounds folder right? ok did that but when I play the sounds are still the typical ah2 default sounds, no changes. Did I extract them wrong or sumthing

Hey fruda, an update on my problem: It turns out it WAS my version of winrar. It was an older one, and I don't know, maybe they changed something or it went corrupt (hell, not sure) but I DLed the most recent and all is well.

Cheers!

nice sounds fruda but they sound a little quiet

Well, that's relative, because with my speakers, they're pretty loud. Maybe you have your sound settings on AH low?

They're not meant to be as loud as my previous packs. I've gone for an "in the cockpit" sound this time around.

Easier said than done for Russian planes... Source sounds are extremely rare (good ones, anyway).

For Corsair sounds, though, it should be easy. I've got a lot of Pratt & Whitney source files.

Okay people, I'm thinking about starting work on my sounds again. I've been taking a much-needed hiatus... Needless to say, I'm getting interested in actually doing this again.

Don't worry, though. I still have all of my sounds (even the source files) on my hard drive, so when I do get back to them, updates won't take very long.

I've made some progress on my USN sounds.

I've completed sound sets for all Pratt & Whitney R-1800 and Pratt & Whitney R-2800 USN aircraft. I'll be completing sound sets for all Wright-powered USN aircraft soon.

It takes some time, yes, but you simply won't find higher quality sounds for Aces High II.

I'm currently progressing with my USN sound pack. However, when I finally do finish it, I won't be able to host the files on my own.

I'll have to figure something out. In the meantime, keep watching. These sounds are the best you'll hear on Aces High II.

Edit: Cancel that file hosting comment. Sitesled's still up!

You need to download WinRAR to access the packs. After that, it's pretty straightforward. You just unpack the files to your Aces High II "Sounds" directory.

Remember to back up any sounds you're replacing.

is the officail site the best place to get this?

also when i down load one of these sounds it says it wouldn't let down load them because it says that the path or internet address is incorrect. is this because i do not have winrar.

ok i really need help i have no clue how to do this. i down loaded winrar so i think, sooooooo when i click to run the sounds it says there was a error and it wont let me run them how in the hell do i do this.

how do i explain this ...u need to use the winrar u downloaded to "unwinrar" the soundpacks so they can be installed into ur pc...the soundpacks are in winwar format wen u download them from this forum..but they cant b installed  like this.. so u need the winrar program to "unwinrarize" them so they can b installed into ur pc...
Title: Fruda's Dedicated Sound Packs
Post by: Easyscor on June 20, 2006, 04:56:00 PM
The sound files are compressed.  You're probably more familiar with zip files and winraw is just another free file compression program in wide use.

Unzip them but in this case as Platano says, "unwinrarize" them.  That should put your wheels back on the tracks.

ya now u put all those sound files in the "sound" files under your aces high files that in ur program files... I know it sounds confusing but this is were u put them:

1.Go to MY computer

2. click on program files

3. now go to the file that reads "HTC"

4. in there there is another file that ses Aces High

5. in the AH file theres another file that reads "sounds"... put all ur sound files in here AFTER u have "UNWINWARIZED" them...

hope this helps...

ok it looks like people dont know where to get WinRar from here the link to the English download...
WinRar English (http://www.rarlabs.com/rar/wrar36b6.exe)

ok all you have to do to unzip the files is to right click and click on "Extract files...".  Search for the Aces High II directory (default  C:\Program Files\HTC\Aces High II\).  Go into the "sounds" folder (default C:\Program Files\HTC\Aces High II\sounds) Extract here! (do NOT go any deeper then this or it will not work)) and presto... the sounds should work once u open AH

Note: if u cant follow these instructions dont bother with the sound mods

Well guys, I'll have to rebuild my sounds from the ground up.

Apparently, the headphones I used to test the latest batch of sounds (note that I never uploaded them) were very low-fi... As a consequence, the sounds themselves were particularly bad when played on speakers.

As for when I'll start working on them, I'm not sure, as I work Monday through Friday. I don't have as much free time as I used to, so I use it for more entertaining things nowadays.

I'll attempt work on some new 109 sounds in a week or two. In the meantime, you'll just have to occupy yourselves with other sound packs (or my older ones).

Oh, so Matchbox is a music player... I didn't know, sorry about the misunderstanding.

There's a reason why the sounds are a bit different in-game than when played "raw". It's the way Aces High II's sound system is, and because it's so low-tech, it just transposes the sounds to (attempt to) fit the pitch of each aircraft's engine... It really doesn't work that well, but that's what we'll have to live with until the game adopts a system similar to Flight Simulator (config files for sound pitch and duration).

I'm currently updating the engine sounds for my existing sound packs, as I've found some better source files for a few of them (DB605 and P&W R-2800). Along with that, I've found that transposing the engine waves by +4 semitones fixes the slow engine sound issue.

And with all of this, I'm in the process of making FW-190 and Lavochkin packs. Keep in mind that the M-82 radial engine was basically a copy of the BMW 801, and sounds virtually identical. I'll be using the same Eng file for both, as AHII's sound system displays the engine sounds differently for each aircraft, making it sound as it should.

I've been working on Pratt & Whitney R-1800 and Wright R-1800 series engine sounds with some great results, and the same goes for my Junkers Jumo sounds (both piston and jet). On top of that, my Allison sounds are coming along quite nicely (default and turbo supercharged).

I'm slowly working toward releasing multiple packs at once, so as I've said before, just hang in there.

Like I said, it's hard work, and I'm doing it for free. :p

I just finished work on my new Rolls Royce Merlin engine sounds, and I'll begin testing them in the game.

Along with that, I'll be reworking all of the other sounds (guns, flaps, gear, etc.) so that everything goes together smoothly.

Great news: I just completed a series of Mitsubishi Ha-45 radial engine sounds for the Ki-84. Along with that, I have the accompanying gun, flaps, and gear sounds to go with them.

I should have some packs up by tomorrow.

I'm getting some unwanted distortion out of my internal Merlin engine sounds, and I'm also reworking the internal Engstart file so it will conform with the external one.

I expect to release both P-51 and Spitfire packs simultaneously, so it'll be a few more days. Please be advised that I don't currently have any (decent) Check6 sounds for British, Japanese, and Italian aircraft, so I won't be including any.

I just got a new hard drive, and I still have all of my files intact (I didn't need to get rid of my old drive after all --- it'll be a backup from here on out). I'll begin adding the final touches to my first batch of sounds most likely tonight, and if I feel like it, they might be done either tonight or tomorrow night.

The moment you've been waiting for is almost here... It would've been here, but my host site seems to be undergoing maintenance. Oh well, at least I can offer some info on what I've done.

I've completed four sound packs in full: Chance Vought F4U Corsair, North American P-51 Mustang, Republic P-47 Thunderbolt, and Supermarine Spitfire, all with true-to-life sounds, from guns to engines (though it's really mostly about the engines, isn't it?). All sounds are formatted to sound exactly as they should, so the engines will drown out most of the other sounds, though you'll still be able to hear your flaps and gear deploying. If you listen closely.

Since I can't upload, I might rework my Bf-109 sounds before I upload these... But don't hold your breath. It's arduous work, and it takes a lot of time and patience.

Do keep in mind that these sounds, for the highest level of authenticity possible, are optimised for hardware soundcards on the level of the Audigy 2 (read: lots and lots of frequency pickups). So, if your sound card (or on-board chip) doesn't have a very high signal-to-noise ratio, you might hear some clipping. I'm on AC'97, and they sound fine, though I'm not too sure about any lesser chips.

Fruda, I love the P-51 packs.  Obviously since I fly those 90% of the time, I appreciate the effort and work to put such a nice set of sounds togather.

Ok now that I smoozed ya, I got a couple questions! :lol

What is the EngI sound for?

And in flight about every 4 to 5 seconds there is a metalic bang that happens, it increases and decreases with the engine noise, what is that?  It does not seem part of ENG..

Not sure what the metallic bang is, as I've never heard it... This is the first time I've even heard about it. Funky.

Anyway, every sound ending in I is an Internal sound. The default sounds are External recordings. Since AHII doesn't have a very spiffy sound engine, you have to switch between either External or Internal sounds, depending on which ones you prefer.

And yes, those Internal sounds are authentic, just as the External ones are.

Thanks.

I guess a metalic "strum" would be more descriptive.  Its about 4 or 5 seconds.  4 seconds would make it when the ENGI repeats.  Might be mysound card hiccupping.

Figured the sounds were authentic, never questioned that. :aok

Hi Fruda,
Thanks to you and the others who put their time into these sound packs. I like your spit 8 sounds but noticed the engine start seems to be a bit short. It sounds like it has already started by the time the smoke billows and prop turns over. I was wondering if I got a bad download or if it is just my system? I am on a really slow laptop right now. Also, does anyone have any tutorials on creating sound files? I can't seem to find anything on the BBS. Well, just curious, thanks again.

I'm betting it's your slow computer, as I formatted all of the sounds to go well over the normal engstart file's runtime (8.765 seconds).

Sitesled often does maintenance. The links are working again, so get the Mustang and Spit packs. You'll love the real sound of the Merlins and Griffon (no plural there, as only one plane in the whole set uses a Griffon).

sounds with an I at the end are internal recordings, so if you want that truly "in the cockpit" experience, rename all of the normal sounds (for example, Eng becomes EngX), and then take the I off of each internal sound. It's much, much different.

Well, things are (slowly) picking up, so in a few more months, I should be working on sounds again.

I know, I know, it's a long time, but it's better than never working on them again. It's just that I have to spend money on items of higher priority before my computer gets anything extra. Even so, if things go better than expected, I might even be able to work on sounds again within the next few weeks.

Be patient, there will be more. Eventually.

Fruda needs to make some more sounds! These are definitely the best sounds.. except for the stall ones, needs to be constant instead of clicking.. had to grab stallsound from some other pack. flap sounds are a bit low too I find.
Title: Re: Fruda's Dedicated Sound Packs
Post by: Fruda on June 11, 2008, 07:42:00 PM
I'm fairly certain that the USAAF aircraft had stall clickers, not buzzers. And as for the flap sounds, they're meant to be lower in the mix so as to convey a better sense of realism. Having everything up front in the mix reduces the effect of being in the cockpit, so I never have every sound at 100% volume.

Regarding Axis aircraft, the material available is either really bad, really bland, from completely different aircraft, or was recorded and cut so poorly that there's no way to make a decent sound file out of it. I do have complete sound sets for the Messerschmitts (even the 262), though I haven't quite gotten around to completing my work on them. The FW-190s are a different story, as there are authentic sounds for them, but it takes a long time to find the source material and piece it all together, especially for the Dora... So, a 190 set shouldn't be that far off.

But for the Japanese aircraft, it's not so easy. I've got authentic sounds for the Mitsubishi aircraft, though not complete sets. The Ki-61 uses the DB601, so it naturally sounds the same as a Bf-109F-4. The Ki-84, though, is a different story... The engine is similar to the Pratt & Whitney R-2800, yet it's much smaller and has about the same power output. I've got a few recordings that say they're authentic, but the information given is dubious at best, and the sound quality is bordering on pathetic. The best I can do for the Japanese aircraft that use the engine that's in the Ki-84 (don't remember the name off hand) is do more research, and find some source material that's at least close to authentic.

All of this being said, I've got complete sounds for virtually the entire planeset (save for the Typhoon and Tempest, as there's pretty much a complete lack of source material for them, oddly enough). It just takes time and effort to get everything done with the exact level of quality that is necessary, and have every sound normalised on the same basic scale I use for added depth (loud engines, loud guns, lower flaps and gears, etc.). It's a long and sometimes annoying process, but it's worth it, and you'll see that firsthand when I release my bomber pack (there's a very specific way bomber engine sounds have to be normalised so that they're displayed properly --- if the Eng file is at 100% for a four-engine bomber, the engine sounds combined will be very muddy and distorted, and it's similar for two-engine aircraft; this means that when the sound files are properly normalised, you get that distinctive "roar" that only multi-engine aircraft make).

And when I'm done with the planeset, I might venture into GV sounds.

Perfection is the reason I release my sounds in small packages, and it's also the reason it takes so long for me to finish them. Making perfect loops, cleaning up source material, and mixing all of the files to sound as they should is pretty tough work, as I aim to standardise all of my material so that it has a flow to it.

Skuzzy said that custom sounds can degrade your systems performance and chomp on CPU.  Would you know if your sounds are
more or less better than the others in the regard?
Title: Re: Fruda's Dedicated Sound Packs

The performance hit is completely unnoticeable, unless you have a computer from the last century.

Aces High II's default sounds are 22khz, 16-bit, mono. My sounds are exactly the same --- the only difference being there are different sounds for every aircraft. There is no precache for sounds on AHII, so each individual sound has to be loaded on its own. Like I said, the performance hit goes totally unnoticed, unless you're rolling like it's 1999.

Hey Fruda, I'm still enjoying your sound packs immensely, thanks a lot for the hard work.  Mind if I ask if you have anything up your sleeve for the near future?

Oh, and I was wondering if you could make it so that the interior sounds are the default instead of the exterior ones perhaps?  I love how realistic the interior sounds are, but it really takes quite some time to change all of the titles.  I'm not sure how everyone else feels about it though.  However, I'm sure you have your reasons that they are the way they are, just thought I'd ask. :aok
Title: Re: Fruda's Dedicated Sound Packs
Post by: Fruda on September 09, 2008, 10:39:52 AM
I have the external sounds as the default ones simply because it improves the ambience. The in-cockpit sounds are more realistic when you're in flight, sure, but when you're on the ground or in a GV, the external sounds make that big of a difference. I just wish they'd update the sound system on AHII so that we could have both sound types at once.

As far as working on new packs at the moment, no, not so much. I'm pretty busy with a lot of stuff (important stuff), so AHII is pretty far back on the list at the moment.

I haven't given up my work on sounds, either. There will be more packs coming.

Sitesled still seems to be down, Fruda.  Any chance you'd be willing to see what's up?  I just re-installed AH and lost all the sounds! :cry

Sorry for not being here in a while, but anyway, here I am.

Sitesled is working (I just downloaded my packs and tested them --- everything's fine), so no troubles there. They often do maintenance and whatnot, so if the site appears to be down at any time, just give it a day or so and it should be fine.

Some exciting news... I'll be buying a new computer come mid-October, one that is more than capable of playing AHII (and smoking it with max settings), so I'll be back on the sound scene. Lavochkins and Yaks will probably come first in my series of new packs, though I'm thinking of reworking everything from the ground up... Though that may not be necessary, unless new, even higher-quality source files can be found.

Yeah, and I'm still waiting for the dev team to get to work on a new sound engine... Until then, switching between internal/external sounds based on preference is still necessary. *grumblegrumblegrumble*

Title: Re: Fruda's Dedicated Sound Packs
Post by: Fruda on February 22, 2010, 10:18:37 PM
I've still got quite a ways to go on the next round of packs, but I've got the basics down.

Most of the aircraft have been given sounds, so what's the next step? Making sure they all work correctly with extensive flight testing. Think of it as quality control, as flight testing shows whether or not engine sounds loop properly (sadly, my audio editors don't always do the job), if flaps and gear sounds are of the right length, and if gun sounds fit with the particular gun's rate of fire. And for this series of packs, I've decided to up the realism even more and make the internal recordings the default sounds, with the external ones as switch-in/switch-out files.

I was hoping to have some packs out last week, but since I'm such a perfectionist, I couldn't let the little annoyances slide. But, it'll be worth the wait.

Title: Re: Fruda's Dedicated Sound Packs
Post by: Fruda on August 11, 2010, 08:47:41 PM
Alright, another little update.

I won't be working on any sounds until I move into a new place. I've been having a lot of difficulties with a very... Challenging roommate. Said roommate is challenging in many ways; the biggest challenge being him almost never paying his half of the rent. I've had to put up with so much from him and life in general that I just haven't had time for Aces High, much less making sound packs. That said, I'm reasonably hopeful that I'll be back to work sometime in the near future, and with the advent of the new sound engine, I'll be able to do a total revision of my sounds from the ground-up.

Yeah, it'll take a while, but things that take the most time are worth the most time. Have no worries. I'll be back.

I'm not entirely sure the server for the files that I uploaded still exists.

I think that should tell everyone enough in itself: I'm no longer maintaining my old sounds. What was good years ago isn't good anymore; I don't feel ashamed of the work (entirely the contrary, because remastering and clean looping all of these sounds for Aces High II's old audio engine was a huge pain), but I really do feel it's not up to par at this point in time. If there is better source material out there that isn't copyrighted, I'll be more than glad to do more work and get some really decent sounds uploaded again. It's a lot of work, though, and even more so when I make it a point to verify that the sounds are authentic. No point in making sounds for a PW R-2800 that come from who knows what. I'd love to get some gear and record aircraft sounds myself, but that's very expensive, considering the grade of equipment I would need for such a job. No way can I afford anything of the sort right now.

I could always find some source material one aircraft at a time and release finished work at an add-in basis... But to be honest, I don't even remember what standard the new audio engine has for aircraft sounds. Stereo? 44khz? I really have no idea.

Griffon sound pack complete.

Griffon sounds are more than suitable for Typhoon/Tempest use along with the Spitfire Mk.XIV, as there are no genuine, high quality recordings of a Napier Sabre engine; incidentally, the only recordings I've found that are low quality at best sound *very* similar to the Griffon. Little nuances, but nothing to complain about.

Flight testing Merlin, Griffon, and R-2800 sounds for final mixing. R-1830 (also suitable for R-1820) sounds under development as well. DB-600 series sounds are under development; more source material has been acquired, so a full pack may be done sooner than I had thought.

BMW 801 pack for radial FW-190s is now complete. Never thought I'd find adequate source material, but wow! Flight testing now.

BMW 132 (powers the Ju-52) pack is under development with the Pratt & Whitney R-1830 (the latter is suitable for use in aircraft that use the Wright R-1820; no discernible sound difference, so why not?). DB600 series is... Still under development, though I only need one more sound file (internal idle) to complete it. Keep in mind that the DB600 series pack is suitable for use in aircraft that are powered by the Junkers Jumo-210/211, as the engines are almost identical.

Looking for a hosting server now. Packs completed and ready for upload are as follows.

Rolls Royce Merlin
Rolls Royce Griffon
Daimler-Benz 600 Series
BMW 801
Pratt & Whitney R-2800

Each pack includes Engx, Engi, Engstartx, Engstarti, Engoffx, and Engoffi. Engx2 and Engi2 are included as well, which are transposed to 5 semitones over, so that the engine sound is displayed properly in-game (for some reason, AH's sound engine lowers Eng sounds by five semitones, so they sound a lot lower & slower than they're supposed to). Base Eng, Engstart, and Engoff are all internal sounds; the base Eng sound is the transposed, corrected sound file.

I included both internal and external sounds in the hope that HTC will update the game's sound engine so both can be used; before that happens, you have a choice between hearing what the aircraft sound like right in the cockpit, or what they sound like outside the cockpit. Internal sounds for multi-engine aircraft are mixed according to the engines being mounted on the wings, so it's quite a bit different than what you hear in the cockpit from a front-mounted fuselage engine.

You won't get any closer to the real thing in Aces High, at least until the sound engine is updated.

I'm thinking about making an effects pack, so if I do, I'll certainly get a proper Bf109 wind sound to put in it. As it stands, I have accurate F4U, P51, and Spitfire wind sounds, among others.

Does Aces High use different engine sounds for when you're sitting in the cockpit than if you were standing on the runway in a chute or sitting in the tower? Or does the game only use 1 engine sound for everything? I would love to hear 109's flying overheard as I sit in the tower that sound like this! http://youtu.be/_a_TETqe1Cg?t=2m7s

I love that whistle!  :O

Thanks.

My eventual plan is to be able to record these engines myself, simultaneously inside and outside the cockpit, rather than search for freeware sounds to remix for AHII. Granted, the equipment won't be cheap (wide diaphragm vacuum tube condenser microphones fed to a vacuum tube power amplifier which itself feeds to a laptop mixing station), but the results would be phenomenal. Of course, using such hardware, every recording would be referenced at 32-bit, 192khz stereo, kept in a secure archive from which down sampled, remixed copies could be made.

Once everything is mixed and packaged, I think it would be entirely acceptable to make the sounds free for everyone. Think of it as a kind of museum format, where anyone can experience what it sounded like for the pilots who flew during the war on all sides.

Vacuum tube audio is kind of my thing. I have a "sandbox" amp I test different circuit configurations with. Within the parameters of 15 watts per channel, at least.

Hey Fruda for some reason the page you have posted here says that it does not exist after I click. Did you, by any chance, change the page the sounds are located at?

The BMW 801 and Pratt & Whitney R-2800 packs have been updated.

Fixes: The Eng files for each pack had loop artifacts that made it apparent when the sounds were looping. This has been fixed, and now the sounds are much smoother.

Allison V-1710 Pack (http://www69.zippyshare.com/v/5211264/file.html)
BMW 801 Pack (http://www69.zippyshare.com/v/58386932/file.html)
Daimler-Benz DB600 Series Pack (http://www69.zippyshare.com/v/36601108/file.html)
Pratt & Whitney R-1830 Pack (http://www69.zippyshare.com/v/26559464/file.html)
Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Pack (http://www69.zippyshare.com/v/2436060/file.html)
Rolls Royce Griffon Pack (http://www69.zippyshare.com/v/63780985/file.html)
Rolls Royce Merlin Pack (http://www69.zippyshare.com/v/86603705/file.html)
Wright R-1820 Pack (http://www69.zippyshare.com/v/16356489/file.html)
Effects Pack (http://www69.zippyshare.com/v/11776645/file.html)

I have to say that it's amazing how much more definition my speakers have than the headphones I've been using for mixing. A lot of these artifacts aren't apparent when using said headphones, but as soon as I use my speakers, there they are. As of this update, all loop artifacts appear to be fixed. As far as my Effects pack is concerned, I realise that the flap and gear sounds don't play properly on some aircraft. To remedy this, I am currently looking for source material for aircraft-specific flap and gear sounds.

Edit: While attempting to delete obsolete packs, Zippyshare's strange interface caused me to delete everything. Eeeaaaagh. All packs have been uploaded again.

I don't know what it is, but maybe working so much on these sounds has diminished my ability to hear loop artifacts when I'm working. When I take a break and come back, I hear more. Anyway, with that being said, another update.

BMW 801 Pack (http://www63.zippyshare.com/v/43408808/file.html)
Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Pack (http://www63.zippyshare.com/v/63004088/file.html)

I understand that there have been quite a few updates, but that's just my commitment to quality.

The Rolls Royce Griffon Pack has been updated.

Rolls Royce Griffon Pack (http://www65.zippyshare.com/v/88384792/file.html)

I felt it was easily the weakest pack of the set; I took it upon myself to dig through more source material and found some better clips to work with. I have kept some of the sounds from the original pack, but they've been reworked and cleaned up so they're much smoother, while sounding more powerful.

Jumo pack done away with; reverted back to proper DB600 series sound usage. More still, this Daimler-Benz update comes with a special surprise. Find out after installing... Let's just say it's a cut above the previous offerings.

Final update for core Daimler-Benz engine sounds. Much smoother and more detailed than previous update; this will be my definitive DB600 series pack update.

Daimler-Benz DB600 Series Pack (http://www29.zippyshare.com/v/98624444/file.html)

I have to say that it's a shame Aces High doesn't allow multiple sounds for complete engine runs. All of my packs are complete engine runs before being formatted for AHII; what a difference it would make if we could hear the aircraft inside and out at all RPM levels...

Daimler-Benz and Griffon packs updated. As it stands, the DB600 pack as of this upload will be the ultimate final version, as there is nothing in the way (as far as I can see at the moment) of better source material for it. The same currently stands for the Griffon pack, though it has to be said that if better source material is found, these will not be final versions. The way I see it, everything is ultimately a work in progress until absolute perfection is achieved.

Use the latest links in these last few pages. Think of these threads as a sort of Source Forge development process. Once I feel that this series of packs is absolutely without need for improvement, I will start a new thread and denote final pack versions.

Accidentally uploaded my FSX packs. Not sure how it happened, since Zippyshare had the default upload location set to my AH packs... odd. I'll have it fixed. Don't delete what you downloaded, though. It's a nice preview in case you ever get FS2004 or FSX. Notice how smooth the transitions are between RPM levels.

That being said, it's amazing what you can miss when you haven't eaten all day.

I'll see if I can get around to finding a less painful place to host these files.

As far as updates, none yet. Still going on with a hiatus, but when I do get back into it, there's really not much left for me to add. Ideally, HTC will rework the audio engine from the ground up so I can release my reference materials as packs themselves, rather than majorly downgrading everything just so it works properly in the game.

Whether or not they'll actually do this is anyone's guess.
