Who were yours?  The peeps who taught you the most about the game?

I am just bored with all the other threads right now!

JB22 showed me the ropes when I 1st started playing, which today I'm still greatfull for.

Bruv119 taught me SA and nearly everything I know today.

Wilbuz and Biggles aka Pooface taught me ACMs.

Alt + R was a great help, I went out looking for the best pilot I could find and merged with him as many times as I could, getting it all on tape of course.

well, the great maxius taught me how to fly in H2H, he got me in the air, taught me about turning, told me not to HO and to get behind people first...

when i ventured online there were various people that helped me, but the most noticeable were, in order of time period:

sniper, he taught me about fighting in the vertical and reversing an opponent

the almighty batfink, who took me under his wing and invited me into his squad. under his expert guidance i went, in his own words, from 'the biggest HO'ing lawndart i've ever seen, to a formidable fighter jock'. he taught me most of what i know as a fighter pilot, and taught me to love the furball, and how to win in one ;)

then i spent a lot of time with kazaa in the TA. we taught each other, and the improvement in both of our flying was very noticeable. we'd just fight each other, practise moves. those fights were always intense, kaz!

then i started moving on to energy fighting. after being pwnt by badboy many times, i eventually asked him for help... he told me i was 'doing a batfink' and wasting too much E pulling for a shot :P he taught me all there was to know about energy fighting.

but there were always people who would kick my arse with magical merges, no matter how much energy i saved, that pesky airvent fellow being the most annoying!!!!! :D

so i've been flying and training on and off with airvent and all his aliases for nearly a year now, especially during the last few months. he used to hand me my arse, and still does from time to time, but i give him a good fight most of the time, and occasionally win one or two :)

so yeah, that's a very brief rundown of the major influences in my flying.

notable mentions should go to these guys though:

dedalos
creton
gunzo
furball
morph
TC
Murdr

ahhh, too many to name. they've all given me fantastic fights over the years, which i've taken a lot away from. sorry if i've missed anyone, there are just so many names and it's been over 2 years :P

Biggles still hasn't taught me how to pull off his sick arse vertical scissors yet. :furious

P.S: BadBoy and Airvent have some serious skills in his locker Biggles!

Finding out that you could record your sorties.

Flying and dying to everyone biggles mentioned and a bunch he didn't like kitty, yucca, grmrpr, and watching the films VERY closely to see what i did wrong.

HR taught me the most important technique (learn to fly while looking backwards).

Bug (the old original) taught me how to do a lead turn.

Drano taught me how to use flaps in AW's 109G.  The technique, amplified by Grits' instruction on the AH P-38G, has worked very well for me.

In addition to these gents, I find that I have learned something useful from nearly everyone else I have fought.

Hammer got me lots of the basics, and taught me how to stay alive long enough to learn.

Havent made myself do enough training to call it mentoring, but Badboy for energy and Nomak for turning  have helped tremendously. I don't have the core control skills down enough to learn as much as I should have from them -- but they've had the biggest effect in pulling me out of the mirey clay.

And the annotated training films from Badboy, TC, and Batfink made a huge difference in reversal skills.

Angus gave me my first opportunity in a squadron, him and Busher taught me to love the game.

I did and gladly would go along with any mission, in any aircraft, which Busher plans, which is completely against what i like doing in this game, simply because of the enjoyment i had while flying with him, his squaddies and the type of people that fly with him.

It is hard to believe, but I was a nice guy til i joined BK's, i blame Hub for that, he is my jerk mentor.

I really enjoy winging with Stang, when we go and up something that should in all honesty stay as a paperweight in the hangar, and annihilate hoards in it... it is much fun.

oh... and nothing has amused me more than listening to Krzyhors and Nord1 on squad vox while they were on together, both completely drunk, dying repeatedly to an M3.  It is like a redneck Laurel and Hardy.

I did some training with GhostH and soon afterwards was invited into VMF323.

I gave them all a good laugh one day when someone was talking about all the GVs they saw and I asked "What are GVs?"

Ripsnort helped me out alot as did Swoop, Mox and MrPluto.  MrPluto's help came a few years later when he taught me how to fly bombers properly.

In my humble beginnings it was Hapstur, Loony, and JOC that I learned the basics from (JOC knew a lot about sheep).

Since then there have been many (too many to name, but they were all Bish and all BoP :)) that I have picked up many things from.

Shawk helped me with my stick set up and some basic moves. Sniper really was the first person to teach me the DA. I had a AW back ground so i knew the basics.

85% of what i have learned wasn't from people teaching me it was from people shooting me down and watching films of my mistakes.

I classify myself as a angle fighter, defence/aggressive flying.

Its really hard to teach this game because i thinks its more about timing and the only real way to learn is repetition. Main is my play ground and the da is for playing with newbs.

Paul of Fate was the first explaining me the merge and stuff. Interesting thing is that Paul was 14 at the time.

The trainers in TA (especially Ren) explained to me the E, angles, gunnery...

Found my way into DA with my squady Whatstis, where we hit into Estes and Sniper. These two thought us the finer points of A2A combat. They also recruited us and so we ended with the Muppets.

There I've learned from the guys like Wldthing, Estes, Sniper, Kappa, XtremeJ, Urchin, Fester, Dutchie, etc (all amazing guys in terms of skills).

Shortly after I joined Muppets they kinda fell apart, so I used to spend my time in TA and DA mostly. Ghosth recruited me for his new squad venture where I've met Wilbus. Learned from him as well.

Then I quit altogether, came back after several months and all I was doing was dueling in DA and occasionally helping the new players in TA.

Somehow in DA I was hitting into most of the top sticks (Redd, leviathn,  Wadke, Furball, Nomak, Wax, TW9, Badboy, Morpheus, Stang, Flyboy, Bigmax and countless others) and each of those fights helped me in some way to improve.

Then, there was a new generation of talented players who started beating on me, like Creton, Dedalos, Batfink, Biggless, Skyrock, Superdud, Megadud, Platano, Schatzi, Hemp, Skychimp, Saskid, Catfish, Sonic, 39158 and many more. Some of those already made the fame, some will shortly...

They all were pushing my old bones to the limits and most often than not I couldn't keep up, but I always learned something.

So, lately I confined myself to TA again. Still learning from top trainers like Widewing, Murdr, Mace, TC, Schatzi and others, having fun at the same time.

It never ends, you learn as long as you fly.

For me the list is too long. I've flown with some great people/pilots in the 2 squads I've been in for all these years. But I think those that I would mention are those who post films...

AK-AK
Murdr
Killnu
Batfink
wildthg
creton

There are many more, but those I got off the top of this old dogs brain. Films I think are a huge asset in this game. Too many people don't have the time to work with others all the time, and films are a great way to get a good start. Get some films and watch them, study them learn what ya can, then hook up with one of the trainers, or "aces" who'll take the time to help ya. It gives you a good base to start from as well as gives you the "questions" you really want answered.

Knowing and being able to express what you want to learn helps the trainers, which helps you.

Keep the films coming !!! Creton and Killnu's fights in the 109's recently have me flying the G2 more often.... ummm don't any one tell Corky, he might kick me out of the SAPP !!!   :cry

Dec, 2005---signed up for free trial, downloaded game. calibrated stick and jumped in.  Took me about 5 minutes to realize I needed HELP.  Found the Training arena and an outstanding gentlemen going by the call sign S2F.

S2F or "Sugar" as I came to know him took much time to advise, and orient me to the game.  Set me up in my first squad so I could get practical experience and gennerally took me under his wing.

For tactical ACM and flight help...My friend and CO, GuthrRal would top the list.

Salute to both, "Sugar" and "GR". :aok

I have to go back to that other sim to find my mentors: WrW, JD, Chick, Jherig, Snowman, Boozr, Badz, Mute, Dragn, Rapier, Bug, Stimpy, Mir  and others.......

I will always owe them alot for showing me the ropes..... ~SALUTE~

here in AH, all my Damned Squaddies helped each other get up to speed when switching over in the H2H rooms

people I think about here from past are Ripsnort, BigMax, Lemur, amongst others, also when I first tryed AH in beta  while playing that other sim....( btw TC has had 3 different versions or ressemblance of TC as a gameid since AH went open beta, along with 2 unknown old gameids he used so no one could see how NOOB he was :D in his Aces High begining)

kid and SOUP (4510) were the first to help me when I started AW ten or so years ago.  kid let me score my first kill against him, his B-17 vs. my Hog.  I emptied my whole clip into him from dead six, he didn't fire a shot, I'll never forget it ;).  Then of course all the Nightmares , , , , , and were pretty active in the FR Arena at the time, I'm sure I missed a few Mares.  Plus, joining Snowman's Training Corps exposed me to lots of excellent pilots.

When I first started flying Aces High, I was especially thick-headed and stubborn, determined never to ask for help. I was going to master this on my own come hell or high water.

In retrospect, that was complete baloney. Every time I fought a skilled pilot, I learned. I learned because I often lost and losing never sat well with me. I paid close attention to guys like Drex, Leviathn and Fester. I watched lots of their films and recorded my own, watching them with a critical eye.

These days, I have lots of opportunities to keep building on what skills I do have. This comes from dueling with players like Bighorn, Nomak, Batfink, Sonic, Platano, Dmonslyr and several others. These guys make you work, force you to push harder and think several maneuvers ahead. You learn to plan your fight, not just react.

I've learned from complete n00bs, who do remarkably unpredictable things out of pure ignorance. They had no clue that what they just did was not doable. I guess that someone forgot to tell that some things are impossible.

I suppose that my mentors were everyone that played the game.

My regards,

Widewing

Nice thread Rock  ;)

I am going to show my AH age here

My very first mentor was Vorc.  We flew together in the "AirWolves".  He left the squad and went to the AK's I think.  I dunno if he quit or has a different name now.  He helped me through the first few critical weeks.

I also learned alot from wBash.  Also in the AirWolves.  He was the best stick in our squad and was alot of fun.  I think of him often while in game.  I dunno if he plays anymore either.

Years down the line when I discoverd dueling A different group of players influenced me.  Some of them helped me and some of them didnt.  They all had an effect on me though.....

WldThing
Fester
Leviathn
Urchin
Sirloin
Shane
BigMax

I know there are others.  Please forgive me if I left anyone out.  These are players who were vetran ACM guys when I was just learning.  I looked up to all of them.  There is a huge group of DA and TA people now a days that I like and respect.  The current players I view more as peers.  These guys were my first taste of it though and they will always be "Different" to me because of that.

Mentors? you mean there are mentors here?

actually I used my experience in Airwarrior as a basis here.

After taking a few flights offline and going into a flat spin in a ponya bunch of times I practiceds offline till I stopped doing flatspins.
Then I came online

decided to take up a YAK for my first flight inasmuch as it was my favorite ride in AW
but it doesnt fly the same.
Still got two kills my first flight.

Dont think I had another kill for several days.

Then switched to the FM2 which I was able to fly like I flew the YAK in AW and did etter. Built myself up from there.

I consider everyone who has evr killed me that wasnt a cherry pick a bit of a mentor As I leanred, and try to continue to learn from each fight.

If I hata pick one single person though. that inadvertantly and unknowingly taught me the most I'd have to say it was JB42 in the 109s

Though SHAWK taught me how to run in a 190 ;)

Kermit spent the most time with me in the DA when I was starting out. He not only showed me what was what in regard to ACM he also explained things extremely clearly. A great teacher.

Also worked with Yucca a bit a little later. He helped me fine tune things.

Can forget the Unforgiven. Vegas and the bunch let me tag along for awhile in the beginning. I learned all the ins and outs of AHII with that group!

Thanks guys !

Jeez, too many folks to name.

Guess the best way to say it, is the guys who ended up becoming the Nomads back in Airwarrior helped set the tone for me.  A bunch of 38 dweebs who couldn't get around to taking things seriously at all but were all about fun.

Nomads were probably the AW version of SAPP.  Guys from a bunch of different squads flying together once a week in shades to raise cain and have fun.

A few of the originals still around here.  +Dizy = Delirium, +Dead =Leviathn, +Tiff=CorkyJr, although i guess I'm the only one flying regularly right now.

Still trying to find those kind of days in here.  Thankfully they happen more and more, but that was a heckuva good time back then and helped me understand what mattered in the game, having fun and never taking it so serious as to lose sight of that.

Started with the trainers for me. None in particular, but whenever I was on they'd be more than willing to help. Then I met a guy named Inyo who started me on the way to true "furballing". 90% of my training was done by Bighorn aka bovidea aka phish aka brocolli aka uberdud aka airvent aka airsys aka infensus aka baitbug(I might have forgot one:D ) Nomak took me for a few spankings as well. And finally my squad, the BKs. Any and all of them can take you to the DA and learn ya!

i started playin AH because of my ex. he played for bout 2 months or so before we split up, he had joined navajo24 and bbqbob's squad, they had helped me when i first started out. triumph helped me also when i flew with the armed and hammered gang. then i joined the unforgiven, plissken had taught me how to bomb ( level and glide ) and how to bomb cv's and take out all 3 vh's on the v base in one pass. kermit helped me the most in fighters though, he took me under his wing and helped me with alot. playin in the DA on late nights before killshooter was turned on we would all get together and play tag for hours, yucca, 2cmex, savige, bullz, kermit, myself and many others would have a great time. i learned alot from that. i guess i can say i learned a lil somethin from everyone i have faught in the game. but i have to give kudos to ma main fwoggy, goin the the DA and him teachin me ACM's and how to fly my tiff helped alot. if it wasnt for him, i wouldnt be able to own in my tiff today :)

ohhhhhh....yeah...and i learned from 4xtch that when merging with him, always barrel roll out his way cuz he's goin for the HO shot :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl

Wow where can I start....

Most dont know who I am and that's because I have only been playing for a year... but I owe my 1 year progress to the following people:

Dedalos aka mendicus- wow just wow...taught me to never EVER plan ahead... read the enemy plane and react...

2bighorn(he's had like 9 other names lol)- the ACM freak of nature

todd420 aka 1hungloe- teaching me how to gv and taught me how to fly with trim..

yucca- taught me to mix it up on the deck with spits and hurri's in a 47N

blukitty- taught me SA and to stick with your wingmen.

biggles- I remember I was a 2 weeker and I wanted to fly 109's and he told me that wasnt an easy plane to learn and I insisted to want to fly it. I remember I saw him as my lil brother trying to teach the older brother that didnt know ***** how to do rolling scissors...thnx bud

Treize- My first ever squad CO back when we were in Grupul 7 Vanatoare... taught me what being in a squad is all about... Thats somthing special right there...Thats like being a childs first grade teacher...you'll never forget that person

And last but not least good ol storchita aka storch- Taught me throttle control and to love, worship, respect the ME109 when i was a 2weeker in the AvA and didnt know what the MA was...  So all ya can blame him for me being a p47 jock but being a luftweenie at heart:D

There are many more that have taught me what i know...But like bighorn said earlier..you never stop learning...as long as you fly you continue to learn, and I have a loooong way to be considered one of the best...

ALL!

Winks, aka SEho, when I first started. He showed me how to set up my system to do all kinds of things that I had no clue about. Told me the bare basics on how to play the game.

After that, I went online and started looking up BCM/ACM tactics, formation flying and other "fighter jock" stuff, then went to the TA and requested trainers to show me what I found online.

SErock for teaching me precision bombing and that 30K in a B-17G is perfectly A-OK and that I AM allowed to fly a goon 40ft AGL the entire way to the drop and that the goon will usually outturn anything in the air.

There was a pilot in the TA the other day that taught me that even if the goon can outturn my spit9, I can still get on his six with patients and a lot of flap and rudder and gear down....;)

just like Wisewing i am stubborn and thought i could teach myself everything.  how clueless could i have been.

since those first days in ah1 I realise now that every time i have been shot down the enemy who got me has given me a good lesson. And equally everytime i win a fight, i am learning at the expense of the fallen foe.
so thanks are in order to anyone who fits into those two catagories, which must be alot of people.

many kind folks have helped me slowly progress over the years, infact too many to mention here, all the HTC training crew and some more who are harder to come accross. like Karaya, birdo was one of the first to help me out in the game when i was a raw newby, and wolfala was very kind to me during my free two week trial and we flew together a few sorties in p38s.

as far as dueling goes, none have schooled me as much, and therefore helped me learn as much, as Wildthng, Sniper and 2Bighorn, but there are many more to thank.

biggles: 'pulling a batfink and burning too much E' is my way of saying 'HEY you get your pansy arse, 'rope-a-dope' energy fighting merge under control, and when you do, i'll be 500ft below you waiting for the fight to start'

I think I forgot to add Birdo, he was first to tell me about the stall limiter.  He then went to DA and we just flew around, no guns, just working on the tightest turns without stalling!  Was a good learning experience!  :aok

Had no idea that DeadF was Levi but it sure makes sense. Learned a lot about the 38 in AW from him back when I was playing as =TT=.

Learned how to die humbly to mitsu back in AH1 open beta, but all of us were mostly converts from AW or Warbirds coming to grips with the differences in the gunnery and flight modeling. Great times though.

And everyone else I've ever gone 1v1 against in the MA or dueling. Heck even the guys who've ganged me, gotta learn SA somehow!

VonDoom taught me the ropes back in Warbirds 1. something. Back when KALI (spelling) had a DOS version that few knew about.

Lots of great sticks in Aces High, but I don't admire skill.

I admire skill with a humble personality and a good attitude.  Yucca took some time with me one day as did Shane. Who can forget Drex? The best there was.

Just a note......Mentor- a wise and faithful adviser/teacher.   We need no negativity from a moral highstander!  Teachers come in all varieties and degrees of effectivness!  Many "students" have learned much from arrogant, sometimes pompous teachers.  As Blooms Taxonomy has demonstrated, there are different levels of competences and skills of learners and a teacher must find what works for each learner as an individual.  Take for instance, one of your "mentors" used negative and degrading attacks  to "coax" an entire community to learn.  Shane is a very good example of an "in your face", yet very effective and memorable mentor!  The "Slayer of Castrati" is on my list!

Actually Shane is a very different guy in the DA.  I always had fun in there with him, good fights, good laughs.

As for his MA persona:  He always said " You castrati are pretty good 6v1."
or something similar.  That translates to:  "I got myself into a bad spot and don't want to take responsibility for my decision."  Whether is was an error in SA or he   didn't care became moot once he whined...yes it was a whine albeit an amusing one.
In spite of this, I liked the guy.  He seemed to really bother some peeps but I always got along w/ him just fine.

Schatzi walked me through my first succesfull landing of kills & always answered my "noobie" questions when I first started.

Redtop & Batfink found me one day & invited me to fly along.  We were all in Hurri IIc's (was my fourth or fifth day in game) & we stumbled accross a Typhie mission.  About 3 seconds into the fight I was a smoking wreck .... and about 10 minutes later Red & Bat were landing their kills.  They had taken out 11 or 12 Typhs & a Niki if I remember right.  Since that day I have attempted to learn all I could from them  & the other vets in the 71st.

Traps for some one on one lessons in the DA.  And for teaching me the fine art of chasing boogers accross my screen.

And some dweeb named Coldkill who I fought in the DA one day.  Sure he kicked my *** all over the place.  But I absorbed his mad skillz and now .....

1: You have no idea how I fly.  I've shot you down so many times that I don't bother rating you as memorable.  You used to hump my ankle then, as you are humping it now. You are so obnoxious that you are not allowed on our squad channel, at least not when I'm on.  The one night I voxed with you, you were so annoying that the bulk of us had you squelched.
2:  huh, you are nonsensical here, but that's not new for you.
3: You don't know what my style is obviously and I never said Shane wasn't having fun
4: If the second, third, 4th, and 5th guy jumped on him, that Shane's fault, not theirs, crybaby.
5:  you've never owned me so I have no idea what you are talking about.  I never said I don't whine, in fact I freely admit that I'm guilty of it sometimes.  I'll post whatever I please.

You are a self promoting blowhard who seems to get your sole affirmation in life by insulting others in here and the MA.  Get laid please.  I am quite confident that I could take up a pool here in our community so we could hire you a professional, if it just means you'd shut the heck up for a change.(if only for a little while)

The true vets, the really good sticks, show their ability in-game, they do not need to trumpet it in every thread, put others down to make themselves feel superior, and tell the world who they "owned".  For that matter, they don't need to make up fantasized encounters so they can say they are better than someone else, like you do. These vets play, get kills, and die with grace, at least most of the time, unlike you.  They quietly go about having fun, unlike you. You are rarely quiet and I find it hard to believe that someone who is as angry a jackprettythang as you could possibly be having fun. You really should try it.

You've invited me to the DA several times, as if, should you win, it will somehow prove you are better than me.  If you lost, I'd have to listen, until I squelched you again, to the litany of excuses you no doubt have prepared.
I'm going to tell you why I decline each time, besides that you are unworthy of my efforts.  Here it is: I would rather eat broken glass soaked in Drano than spend any time, 1v1, with a loudmouthed jackprettythang such as you.  I play the game for fun, I think having my eyes scooped out of their sockets with red hot spoons would be more fun than spending one minute in the DA with you....  no thanks.

So go on telling the world how great you are, how you would own me if we went to the DA. You'll never be in a class as the traditional Vets, no matter how good you tell the world you are.

Couldn't have said it better, exactly the same experience with the attention craving dweeb :)

PS I like the ankle humping part LOL

As for being a traditional vet, or whomever you are referring to, I seek not.  I am who I am and I don't give a damn!  If my little 200 taunts or BBS posts get your litle whiney panties in a wad, then you are the one with the problem.  When I see someone like you come in here and act self righteous, knowing you were the biggest cherry picking, full of himself, self-promoting arse ingame at one time, it makes me chuckle!

Steve, maybe you should restrain from coming on a thread where people are saying nice things about the people who helped them and insulting one's mentor.

"As for his MA persona: He always said " You castrati are pretty good 6v1."
or something similar. That translates to: "I got myself into a bad spot and don't want to take responsibility for my decision." Whether is was an error in SA or he didn't care became moot once he whined... " -Steve

Why you felt the need to type the above quote, is beyond me!  Maybe a little of your old self shinning through! ;)

Let me start by saying, you missed something!  How you got that I started throwing mud is funny, I guess!  Daddog came into a thread that had only good things to say and said negative things, ie. things he doesn't respect or admire!  I rsponded to him in a manner that was relevant only to his attack on "how" teachers work and what strategies they use to teach.  His post was meant to set some sort of moral high ground of how an effective teacher should act!  I find that offensive and an insult to many great teachers that are very effective using aggressive and often offensive strategies.  That is how I saw daddog's post!

Steve used his post to "translate" Shane's old "castrati" statement, turning it from how I saw it(which was funny smack talking), into a negative whine!  Nothing positive there, yet completely pompous, arrogant, and inconsiderate to do so in public when the person he quoted has not even posted in the thread yet.  I went a little to far in my response to Steve, yes.  I do that some times.  It doesn't magically make what Steve posted any less negative or arrogant.  He enjoys some people coming right in behind him and backing him, which is to be expected.  I stated my first encounter with Steve, so I owe him nothing!  He has yet to apologize, and even refuesed to read the post or even acknowlege any wrong doing in attacking a player who had only been playing for 3 days.  So, I see him as an empty warrior in his quest to attack those who insult, and defend righteous behavior.  I do not bow to those types and never will.

Now lets get to what you said:

Your post would seem to imply that there was "tension" due to competition that you had to "defuse", I remember none!  Yet you still go on to perpetuate the question, "Is he(SkyRock) a better pilot than me?"!  Then to state that it doesn't bother you...... why bring it up?  It was never present until you created it in your own mind!  You go on to assess my will with your next statement, "However, once I said to him he no longer had to "prove" to me that he was.", which I find to be offensive.  It is funny, no?  That the defenders of good behavior should show so little respect to that in which they intend to defend!  I think your quest in conquering your insecurities requires yet more practice!  I do have faith in you, though!
Mark

PS  I hope none of you guys think in any way, that my posts here are attacking how you guys are in real life.  I am sure that each of you represent fine, outstanding husbands, fathers, and citizens!

sorry, I have flown with SR for some time now...you guys just dont get "it" with him....or Shane...from what I have seen.  The
Being in the position I am in in RL...I see that there are many different styles of motivation to use...and I must find the particular style of motivation that works on each of my suboridinates.  Same in game, except we dont have the luxury of knowing evreryone that plays as close as I do with my suboridinates....and I did not always have the proper motivational skills that I do now with them, I learned them over time with trial and error and learning from those in positions of over me, with me and even beneath me.  Maybe SR and Shane have one style....and thats what they know...maybe thats what they choose to use in the MA enviroment and change it up when somebody actually says "sure, lets go to DA".

anyways...thats what I get from those guys with those comments...meant to motivate me when i was total noob to try to do something different and actually improve...vice where im at now in noob status and try to help others when they ask....im not the vet yet that will go and try to help others improve without them asking.

Killn, read my entire comment about Shane,  the net message was positive.
Blowhard just got his thong in a wad because he has stalked me since just about when he entered the game. He started humping my ankle  in this thread because I had the nerve to interpret something differently than he did.(Shane's castrati comment)

Here is the entire quote, in context(to save you search time)

Blowhard typed:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Shane is a very good example of an "in your face", yet very effective and memorable mentor! The "Slayer of Castrati" is on my list!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I typed:

"Actually Shane is a very different guy in the DA.

He seemed to really bother some peeps but I always got along w/ him just fine."

There you have it, unaltered.

My first sentence was in reference to  the "in your face comment" by the mouth.  In the DA shane was friendly, and eager to help and we had good laughs as I watched how he did a couple of different reversals.  He obligingly repeated them for me several times and in different airplanes so I could learn them and learn how to counter them.  This is much different than his persona in the MA, IMHO.
The rest iof the text is self explanatory.

The more you try to explain it, the more you sink into what your game personna really is, a complete arrogant arse!  You and Apar cherry picking big mouth "Vets" think you can still talk down to me like you did when I was a newb, and I'm supposed to just take it?  Yet now you won't back it up!  Just insults and no Ballz to go to the DA and slug it out!  Just like AKAK, who had no problem dueling me when he was talking arrogant smack to me when I was a 3 month newb!  Scared little boys, who can't handle someone actually calling them out!  As far as your dreams of me ankle humping you......LMAO!  The only reason I remember your name is you were the first person to completely attack me without merit in AH.  Oh, and also you were famous for being a cherry picking, nose bleed, pony run boi!  After that, I don't ever recall seeing you.  It does back up my accusations that you are just as arrogant as you claim me to be.  All you can think about is that I am attacking you because I "ankle hump" you!  LOL  What an conceited stance in this argument!  Read!  I have clearly stated why you got the response you did from me.  I would have never even offered to go to the DA with you at all, except you tried to cherry me one night a few months ago and I reversed you and caught you on pullup and blasted you!  You whined about hog overmodeling!  Which I also took as an insult, as it was meant to take away from my brillantly executed manuver that ownt your skilless cherry picking arse!  LMAO!  So, why don't you go and try to convince people who don't know me, about how I am, you will find that it will fall on deaf ears with the people who are my friends, or that have gone to the DA with me.

PS  My sincerest apologies to the thread and those who posted on the topic with integrity, I never intended it to be this negative.  I all who have been positive and complimentary to their AH mentors!

Skyrock the point that it is totally obvious that you missed is this.
Its not how loud or good you talk, anyone can talk.

The truly great players in AH can back up the talk, but never need to.
They are simply PAST that garbage.
They realize that life is too short, there are better things to do.

You on the other hand sir are obviously totally hung up on that.
There is always going to be someone bigger, badder, meaner, uglier coming down the pike.

The difference between the class & the trash is how they treat everyone else.
Daddogs right, Drex is a gentlemen and a damm fine person. As is Yucca, and many others I could name.

You on the other hand will never make it to those ranks.
You simply lack the class and the humility. No matter HOW good you can fly.
You just don't get that sometimes its about more than that.

I dont have anything against anyone in this thread...

But why is the DA seen as the be all and end all by some?  I know a lot of people think like me in not giving a damn about DA.  I would get my arse handed to me by plenty of people, i dont like duelling and i rarely do it (apart from when with good friends such as Apar/Stang/Nath, which i thoroughly enjoyed).

The MA is fun to me, why try and take someone away from what they are doing to suit your own means?

No one really dies, planes are free.  For every day I feel like I'm getting better, I have one where I get my 38G handed to me in pieces.  Who the heck cares?

Measuring myself against other cartoon pilots just doesn't matter. Life is way too short and there are too many important things to worry about.  This is the escape, not where I get my ego stroked.

As long as I'm having fun and it fills that little bit of 'wish I'd have been there' history nut in me, it's all good.

Have some fun and relax :)

Well said.

Thats exactly what is wrong with you Skyrock.

I enjoy DA-ing with people I consider friends and people that want me to DA with from a positive stand. I don't go to the DA to give you a chance to FEED your INFLATED EGO.

Ohh, and I do DA with people that beat me in a 109. I did so with CRETON in the time I could still beat him and I did so in the time he kicked the crap out of me. The difference between people like him and you is that they don't need to brag about it like you with your pathetic and childish "I own ...... and I own ...... (fill in player name) statements. If there were a permanent squelch option in the MA, you would be number 1 on my list.

I'm already sorry I replied to this thread, I should have known it would come down to EGO purse fighting, simply because you posted it.

1.  If they're so elite in their manners, then why do they continue to talk?  I like being a big mouth, I think it's funny and amusing.  I always got to the DA with anyone!  I don't run my moputh and then say, "I'm above that because I have nothing to prove!"  It's not about proving.  It's how manyof us learned, some big mouth got us hot under the collar, we went to the DA got served then they taught us!

2.  The people I am responding to here are far from class if it is directly related to how they treat people!

3. Somehow you have me confused with someone who is striving to be in "those ranks", I do not care about how you or anyone else compares me to Steve, Apar, or AKAK.  I hope I never get to where they are, a big mouth elitist!:D   Actually until recently I thought very highly of Apar, but our latest meeting was for from classy on his side!

The MA is fun to me, why try and take someone away from what they are doing to suit your own means?

The DA is an arena that is suited for two big mouths to walk the walk!  If you want to go publicly and talk the talk, then why would you suddenly not want to go back it up!  It's just a game, it's not like you really die in the DA!
I have great fun in the MA as well! :aok

Apar, you take that "own" stuff way too seriously.  I never had a problem with you until recently and you know why!  I have dueled you before back in the day and you were a very pleasant person to me.  Then you went on the save the MA from bad guy SKyrock's own statements crusade and started smack talking me.  The big difference is now, you come in here and talk about how I am an arse for doing what you have done to me in the last month!  Except on my end, I always will take time to be a man about talking smack and go to the DA with the fellow! The funny thing is SR that I kill you once in the MA and give you your oh so favourite "I own you" back in ya face and you go bananas in the MA crying out that you want to DA me and if I don't I'm a coward.

Go cry me a river SR. I gave you that "I own you" to make you experience how it feels. And according to your reaction it didn't feel very good at all did it?

Again, Apar, you can come in here and twist what you did all you want.  I care less how many people respects you, you pulled an arse move and then was a slug about it!  The difference with me is I will boast, but when it comes to fighting, I will give the other guy a fair chance, even in the MA, and with honor!  I owe you no respect!  So why don't you go and blow your 'Whine" whistle some more, maybe you can convince yourself your a good person!  In my book, our last encounter, you were a slug of a man!  Now do yourself a favor and refrain from ever communicating with me in this game again.  I have nothing but truth for you and you won't like it!:aok

Shamus, I am fully aware of what Apar was doing.  I even spoke to Killn about it on our channel, of how he was just trying to get me going.  I also told Killn of what Apar had pulled, my last meeting with him.  Don't be fooled, I am not a newb and am fully aware of what is going on even in this thread! :-)

Look Apar, I have never had a problem with you.  We have dueled in the past, I enjoyed the fights and considered you a class act!  I have spoken and you many times either on range, country, or 200.   Somewhere between then and now, you start to take what I say on 200 to be personally offending to yourself!  Then you take it upon yourself to, "teach" me a lesson by "doing" to me what you think I do to others.  The only problem with that, was that you were wrong!  I do not do to people what ever in your mind you think I have done.  Other than the occasional HO dweeb, or Run boy, and of course, SkyRock<---owns, I am usually very respective of those who are respective of me!  Especially when it comes to putting up a "fair" fight, if my opponents wishes to fight me!  Besides, the SkyRock<---owns is supposed to be humorous, many do get it!  Some, much like yourself, are so full of themselves that they take that as an insult, or a claim to AH greatness....LMAO!  If I do or say something that is inherently bad and out of line, I apologize to people.  Instead of apololoogizing, you continued to be an arse about it and still perpetuate it in this thread!  When you remove your concrete plate, I will do the same! lol:aok

Reread the complete post from top to bottom SR, there’s plenty of clue’s on how people think of your behaviour in the game and on this board.

Not really... because the MA and DA are too very different environments. Someone who excels in one does not necessarily excel in another.

It is suited to have a battle with out getting interupted.  The two opposing fields are at the same alt and everything.  If you are referring to SA, then I would agree with you.  I would go as far as to say, if you have mastered your acm's in the DA, they are easily broght back  to the MA for use!   There were so many that I picked up from in the DA I still can't remember them all! :aok

Looks like I'm going to have to hide the toys from the kids again.

It is really pathetic that this topic should make it to the BBS.  Cripes...it's a game.  Like Whisk, Dominoes, Chutes and Ladders.  Doesn't anyone understand this?

Hey...it's more like Bowling you get a score in bowling too!

I enjoy talking between countries on 200.  Why you may ask?  First, probably the majority of my long time friends in Aces High have been former adversaries, or countrymates in Air Warrior.  I always say hello to
Pawz, KillnU, Whels, DogFart, Nomde, Silat and many many others that I've known for a good many years.  Most of them since earlier Air Warrior days.  We during a good fight....winning is not important.  RESPECT......one has to earn it.  How does one gain respect by insulting someone?  It won't happen!  Fester handed me my patootie many many times when I first came to Aces High...he earned my respect by beating me without crowing, and helping me to improve in Aces High.  So have many others that shoot my tail off on a regular basis.

In life if you work hard you have a greater chance of attaining your goals.
Also.....to get respect you must first earn it.  It is not handed to you.  If you give repect in most cases it will be returned to you.  Doesn't matter who you are or what you do, respect is returned when it is earned.

Now....I'm sorry I even posted on something as trivial as this.

We learned in squads back in the day and we try to carry on that tradition today.

The Assassins rocked at ACM, I learned a lot from them.

The Krewsaders rocked at taking bases, we learned the strategies from them.  To this day, our squad excels at it.

The future lies in taking in the newbies and training them.  You want the game to last, unlike AW?  Recruit newbies and teach them to love the game.

Furby.....

To be honest its kinda hard to explain the DA thing.  Not many people "Get it" but once they do they are usually DA faithfulls forever.

It offers things the MA doesnt.  No running away, no hoards, no base capture.  No long pauses between fights, no climbing to altitude..... you get the idea.

What the real appeal is though is that its very personal and really really pushes you to fly at your best.  I mean..... I can have more great fights in teh DA in an hour than I do in the MA in a week.  Quite a few of the people I DA with become great friends as you have alot of time to talk 1 on 1.

I dunno there are other reasons but I dont view it at all how SkyRock described it.

Just my take

Dave,
I thought your(our) version of the DA was long gone... It's why I rarely go in there now, I don't want to deal with some chest pounding blowhard.. I just want to have fun.  I peeked in there the other night and had some good fights w/ a dude named Warkat in a FFA setting. It was a good time.  Warkat sent a genuine salute whether he was on the giving or receiving end.  I am glad that I ran into him, he is a classy stick and I enjoyed mixing it up with him.

It was a good time.  Warkat sent a genuine salute whether he was on the giving or receiving end.  I am glad that I ran into him, he is a classy stick and I enjoyed mixing it up with him.

Ask WarKat about who i am in the DA!   Kat! Great fights! Although he was tripping on "SkyRock" the first time we met, I found him to be a very desirable(Hee Hee) Duel mate!  Steve, you have fallen under your own created spell!  I yam what I yam, because you created me that way!  God!  In your own likeness!  LMAO!

Skyrock...

I really don't know you, and I'm sure you're a fine virtual pilot, but I really have to ask this.  How old are you?

I mean seriously I love this game and I'd love to be great at it but what does it really matter in the big scheme of things whether you can 'kill' me or I can 'kill' you?

Nothing personal but you seem to have almost individually turned a thread that was intended to be positive to a 'me against AH' one.

Personally I think you are amusing most of the time.  Other times you would be better off not posting and inflaming the situation.

Of course that's just my opinion and like rectal orifices everybody has one.

au contrair mon fraire, it is all clear

I've seen the good the bad and the ugly in my past ten plus years of this,

this was a post to honor people who took time to teach others, lower the learning curve. and furballers and toolshedders alike have done this. Taken time out from there gameplay to HELP others. Learn and enjoy the game.

But this thread that was made to honor people who try and help has been destroyed by Hey look at me.

no insult here implied, but this thread has been morally hijacked

alot of good people have given tons of there time in here and thats what this thread was about,,,, how does widewing say it

Doobs, if you read the thread, in it's integrity, you will find that SkyRock is a very humble soul to those who have taught him well!  Besides all the smack talk, I want to "Salute" those who have taken their time with me!  Without showing elitism, many have donated their time and energy, just to make me more enjoy this game!  I give them credit in this thread!  I wish nothing but the best for all "real" people who have enjoyed/not enjoyed, this thread!  Keep it in perspective!

I have had a few discussions with Skyrock on 200.  From my own personal perspective, I dont find his comments on the 200 channel entertaining or enjoyable.  I have read in these posts that some do.  It seems I have read more comments from folks with similar feelings as me.

I am a law enforcement officer by trade, my job at times can be very stressful.  I come to play AH as a stress reliever.  I dont come here to be bullied and pestered by anyone.  I have found that you, skyrock, like to bully and badger people on 200.  In due respect, I sincerely believe that you feel it is funny and entertaining.  I dont share those thoughts.  On occasion, I have had enough of your rantings and fell into a trap by arguing with you on 200.  That was my mistake.  My best response should have been to turn off 200.  The only problem with that is there are folks on both opposing sides that I like to hear from.

So skyrock, if we can be adult about this, try and step out of the box and see how others might think concerning your behavior.  I have no problem with the topic you raised in this initial thread.  In fact, I think it is an honorable topic.  The problem I have is with you, from my limited perspective of your constant blatherings on 200.  I can respect  the thread, but perhaps, sadly, not the author of the thread.  Its as simple as that.

I dont understand how people can say SR is taking the game to serious, needs it to inflate ego, blah blah blah....and it all stems from them taking what he says on 200 seriously?  Who is taking what to serious here?

Over my time in online sims, I have found some of the more memorable opponents/wingmen have been the "mouths".  I love them and have not taken what they say seriously, because I know it is not serious, but meant to get a "rise".  Rice1...guy was funny and loved killing him,  Ruaml...still is funny and love to fight him, As&8s....funny and good to be around cuz many cons was otw, SR...makes me laugh and my goodness does he get people spun, Shane...was only one that at times got to me, but I quickly put it back in perspective when I looked at the situation.  It totally made sense to me when I seem him in a 4 on 1 and 2 more dove in with 5k alt to help kill him.

Ive seen some people on here smak talk on 200 to try to get opponent try to do something...some have admitted to typing stuff just to get a guy "going".  How are they so much better?  The hypocracy is disgusting.

I base my opinion like this.

Has SkyRock bounce on me from a 5k alt adv?    No.

Has SkyRock cherry Picked me in a hoard?  No

When I call a con mine does he back off?   Yes.

When I'm engage in a 1vs1 does he ask first if i need help?  Yes.

Does he ever fly with the Hoard? No

Does he take on the hoard?  Yes

Is he willing to help a teammate even when the numbers are against them? Yes

Is he willing to spend time in the DA and show people a trick or two? Yes

I'm not sure what else you can ask from a member of AcesHigh.  But i'll take a 1000 skyrocks/shane over any of you that have posted here.  Including myself.

And >S< Shane for spending time with me in the MA during the late hours.  Also sending me the stick config that I still use to this day.

i have nothing to say negative about skyrock. he likes to talk trash a lot to get people to DA him, but who doesnt, I do that too not as much as skyrock but i like to talk trash sometimes to get people to DA me. and after my opponent and I are finished In the DA we end up becoming friends. most of the time everything works out perfecly. So dont be scared to DA skyrock you might learn something or you might kick his prettythang like i do in spits LOL and it will feel really good.

P.S. looking foward to fighting skyrock in the DA again.

I started AH with an incredible bunch of fellows named the 327th Steele Talons.  I flew with them for a year and am still close friends with all of them!  Then I left

I have been in the Muppets, three times.  Once was invited in by ManeTMP, wetrat pitched a fit because I was relative newb, so he asked me to leave after 3 days. I left.  Was invited again by Fester 2 days after that.  Stayed with them for 4 months, and then quit to fly solo.  Started training with Nomak, who invited me into "Quah" (where I met TW9) I think it was TW's squad, which mophed into "( . ) ( . ) lovers".  TW and Nomak left but Wax and the few that were on there were a blast.  I slowly drifted out until Wax just took me off the roster. LMAO! Wax tried to turn me into a NIK pilot and I vomitted so he kicked me out on my arse! hee hee j/k Wax!  I then was asked to join the 475th by Blixen I think.  I flew with them for quite awhile(excellent bunch of folks give or take 2) lol.  The 475th merged with Fester and the Muppets.    Then KillnU left and I eventually dropped out to fly solo again.  I then flew with Crazy Gang, but Pipz didn't like me jumping countries so he Kicked me out!  I was already flying solo most of the time so I didn' take it in wrong way and Pipz still great friend to this day!(although not a great singer!  hee hee)  I flew solo for quite awhile.  Then jumped in this new squad called Killuminati, formed by Dano Dano I think.  Great friends and good times.
I left/was booted, lol   and formed a squad.  I had 3 in, when I see Killn on one day and saw him land kills as a Muppet.  I asked, "muppets"???  He said yeah Festers back.  I said cool.  A few days later I was flying and a PM came up, it was KillnU and he said hey bro, come join the muppets!  I asked who all he had in, and he replied just me and Fester.  I said I'd have to talk with my sq.  By the next time I had logged on, my one squad mate, had already joined KillnU and so I rejoined myself.  I haven't regretted the move back, and it is an incredible bunch of fellas, all of whom I respect, and enjoy flying with.  Wouldn't be in any other squad!  just great fun and laughs laughs on ch!  We go to the DA and kick the watermelon out of either and absolutely no ego's abound.  Just super fellows!

First I hope you noticed I edited out where you kik my arse, sonic!  hee hee
Sonic hit the nail on the head here.  I can't think of one instance, where I didn't become friends with the perosn who hated me and finally went to the DA.  After the fights, I get many who say, you are completely different guy in here.  I thought you were going to be an arse!  They usually end by saying thank you so much for taking the time with me and showing me that stuff.  I appreciate your teaching me and am excited to go back to the MA and put this stuff to use!
Just about a month ago, I had this Kat, WarKat, who said on 200, come you bigmouth arse, lets go to the DA.  I said sure.  We merged in hurri2's and I followed his spiral up and he roped me.  He followed me down and eventually got me as I squirm on the deck.  I typed, Good fight and kill  . only to find he had immediately logged off!  I went back to 200 and said Warkat, where'd you go?  He said I beat you and so I came back to the arena, do you want me to post the film of me kiking your arse?  I said no, I wasn't finished dueling do you mind coming back? He obliged and kiked me around some more.  A few days ago, he PM'd me and said you want to DA?  I said, sure.  We go back in there and I kik him a little.  It was great fun, and I think me and WarKat will be good friends form now on and he knows he has a good fight whenever he wants one and with someone who will not HO him on any merge, but just give him a good honorable fight!

I know this sounds like I am just tooting my own horn, but many of you guys in here just hate, the 200 personna, without ever knowing me personnaly.  The 200 smack is something I learned from many of my mentors, and I found out after I went to the DA with them, that their 200 smack, was just that, 200 smack, and in no way was indidcative of who they really are in a one on one encouter and conversation with them!

Mussie I appreciate you candor.  I just would like to make one thing clear, the "owns" comments are usually triggerd by someone talkng smack themselves.  For instance, these are some triggers, that will automatically get a SkyRock "owns" jab:

When I hear someone tell a newb to AltF4, he will get an "own" jab.

When I hear a guys arguing over the 1 con the 6 of them jumped I will start throwing the "own" jabs at all of them.

When I see peeps on 200, arguing, I throw the "own" jab in there just to stir it up!

When I see someone gloating on 200, I throw them an "own" jab.

When I see someone complaining about how noone will bring a goon, I throw them an "own" jab.

Don't get me wrong, I throw the "own" jab out there completely fishing for response sometimes, although abrasive, I find it to funny, and many times end up helping the guy if he gets amd enough to go to the DA and actually learn something.  I throw it out to friends, who in response, say, "I owned SKyRock once, but I couldn't return him because the store wouldn't have him back"!  The best one I have heard lately, and I can't remember who said it, was, "You know if you bought SkyRock for what he's worth, then sold him for what he thinks he's worth, you coud get rich!"  I think that is funny as he11!~  LMAO!

to the old vets watching:

Yes, we have seen the 'skyrocks' (and several others) in the past.  The wonderful 'internet smartasses' that wouldn't show their persona in a 'real' bar if their life depended on it.  The outcome would be obvious.  Tho sad, it is a reality of the virtual world.  Therefore, forget the typical DA challenge..... just extend an invite to the bar at the con and see if they show then lets see just what they 'own'  :D

LMAO!    I try very hard to avoid fights in real life.  I have been in bands since I was 19.  Been in bars from New York to LA and many in between.  I coached last year at one of the Most gang ridden violent HIgh schools in the inner city of Memphis, TN.(107 violent incidents out of 187 days in school)  You do not know me.  I have been cut, shot at, hit to many times to count(once in the face with the butt of a pistol), and broken my left pinky knuckle on a guys face, fought a 2 vs 9 with my brother on Beale St. in '03 at age 35!  I think you should try and take your smack talk about the real world somewhere else bud!  I think you are a very sick person to even bring up real life fight talk into this "game".   I am a very laid back person in real life and have been in too many fights to have to worry about some psycho who wants to fight over a cartoon game!   If/when I can make it to a con, I will gladly buy you a beer and laughingly talk about ingame personna's, but I will not be there looking for a fight.  If you try to pick one with me, I will walk away.  If you push it, then I willl defend myself!  I would expect any human to act in the same manner!
Now ingame is a different matter!  You want to put your fat mouth up in the DA>?  I doubt it!  Besides you'd just get owned!

"I am a very laid back person in real life" < skyrock

I hope so Skyrock, because if you talk like you do in this game in real life you would not last 5 minutes without someone ramming their fist into your face. Not in my neck of the woods anyway.

Spro is the master. If anyone wants to learn this game send a join message to spro when he's landing or dogfighting he will teach you lots...

In your neck of the woods, would they enquire about a fight, or just sucker punch?  I do not sucker punch peeps in real life, but you would not believe what I see in the schools.  Kids now days will brag about how they jumped a guy when he was not looking and kiked the he11 out of him.  Last year I had 3 GD's(Gangster's of Disciples)  Jump a kid in my class and bloody his face to a pulp.  I tried to pull them off but could only get hands on one at a time.  Finally, I just started throwing them as far as I could across the Gym floor until I got them off and then I had to grab the victim and drag him to safety before the cops got there.  Got slashed down the back in the process, could have been pocket knife, could have been fingernail, I never found out what it was, didn't even know it until I got home.  Don't even get me started about gangs!

When the fight is unavoidable, and there are more of them than me, then anything goes.  I do however stear clear of huge, hate filled, peeps.   Got jumped by a hulk/guy and his 4 friends back in college, lost parts of seven teeth.  He was so filled with hate, and I didn't even know the guy.  I literally contemplated revenge in a major way.  Three months later the guy fell over dead with a brain tumor the size of a golfball.  Life is strange!
enough about real life

LMAO...

I must you Skyrock.  I find it refreshing that yes, you consider it a game too.  I do apologize for putting you in a group that you did not belong.  Too many times I have been on the receiving end of PMs of ones who damn sure would not say the same things to me in person.  Their comments went WAY beyond the game. There is 'gamespeak', and yes,... quite a part of the game AND entertaining.  But!  there is a definite line.  When this is crossed....then the hair on my neck stands up. You may ask anyone who knows me or has met me at a con and they can testify.  I will be the first to buy ya a beer and laugh with ya.  Just don't make the game watermelon personal and all is good.  Now.... on the other hand... No... I won't get 'owned' in the DA :)  To you and all I may have offended in my previous post...I apologize.  Otherwise, just keep it a part of the game and first beer at the con is on me :)

No apologie required, sir!  I actually do have a line I won't cross ingame.  You will never hear me speak of anyone's mother and any member of their family for that matter.  I try not to say things that aren't directly related  to the game.  I will every now and then throw something back at a person, but even then I try to keep it with stuff like dweeb, runner, HO boy, and the likes!  Anyway, I appreciate your candor and will look you up when I get to a con!

the pwn thing is just a way to get people in the da. if it offended u maybe u should toughen up or find something more serious to take to heart.

some of us find much more joy in DA than MA. IE Me Rock, and a few of the participants in this thread.

Rock is one of my favorite DA opponents and squaddies. We can go hours killing eachother without any sour feelings and i rarely see him take any losses in DA to heart.. In the MA it seems he's the only person that can kill off that flight time otw to a fight.. LoL sometimes i gotta tell em to shuttup cause i cant think with all the jabbering.. U guys dont know rock like u might think u do.

and rock u might just have to accept the fact ur one of those love/hate types.. quit tryin to explain urself.. let the haters hate.. to be honest if u werent my squaddie i'd probably hate u too  :D ...

anyways thats quite a big catch u got there rock. u all have been had.

I have my good days and bad days, but yes I have fun with it.  By the way, met up with Steve in the DA last night had a few great fights until his wife ack kicked in.   to Steve.  Had some good ones with Numb.   to Numb   Had some good ones with FX1   to FX1  Had about 20 pM's wanting to go to the DA, and I have to think that this thread, as it ended anyway, had something to do with that!  THanks for the words TW and all the good fights!   to all!

I've figured the game out pretty much on my own.  But i have trained with mostly shane and frenchy.  Those are probably the only two people i would consider "mentors."  Shane although he comes off as a jerk is actually the MOST helpfull trainer in the game.  He will go out of his way to email you films and go to the DA and many things like that.

Although some of what he posted was nonsense, some of it was spot on true.  Thats why it hurt.  I thought about it for a good long while and I realized something.  I had tied my "identity" to how others viewed me in the game/community.  Its an insecurity really.  i.e. "I wont feel good about myself until others in the game tell me how great i am". Believe it or not I didnt realize I was doing it.  Not until I was honest with myself.

After I identified the real issue correcting it was easy.  Ergo, when you approach the game not trying to impress everyone the game is alot more fun and stress free.  Having the right attitude is liberating really.

So BK's ...... you were right.  The game really is taken way to seriously.  I am embaressed that I didnt see that sooner.

I was in the DA with SkyRock the other night.  With my new found knowledge (power) over the AH "situation" I totally defused any tension or competition by telling him right off the bat."you are a better pilot than me"  Is he a better pilot than me?  It really doesnt matter.  However once I said that to him he no longer had to "prove" to me that he was. I was then free to win or lose and have no issues or episodes.

Is entertaining for me at this point watching others behavior in the game, on  200 and in here.  Because now I see right through that type of thing.

I guess thats all.

Dave

you just summed up the problems with social interaction the world over, well done nomak.

when people learn to be themself, and the opinions of others be damned, they will realise that others respect thier individuality, no matter how bizzare and different one individual might be.

impress yourself with your abilities, and others will notice it in you, but you will realise you dont care if they notice it or not...

try to impress others before you have impressed yourself, and no one will be impressed, no matter how hard you try.

S! dave, thanks for sharing yourself with us.

I can't pass up this chance to mention how incredibly helpful Shane has been to me.  Like a lot of people, I could not understand some of the crazy taunts that he would blurt out in the MA.  He seemed like a complete ego hungry self centered person to me.  When he first helped me, I was just another wandering target to shoot at, no different than a discarded aluminum can on the side of the road, just waiting for the inevitable bullet holes.  Why should Shane treat me any differently than the people he was mercelessly harrassing on the open channel in the MA?  Well, having fallen to his guns too many times I ventured to ask him for some advice, and he was happy to interrupt his latest string of taunts, and switch over to the DA with me.

In the DA, we flew sortie after sortie in different planes with the same result over and over, yet he never tired or gave any hint he was running out of ideas to help me.  I have never had someone so patient, helpful and determined, to spend time like this with me in AH.  He was truly a most helpful instructor, and it was a complete shock to me that there would be even an ounce of interest in helping me to improve my skills.  After several pounds of determined interest, we finally parted ways.  However, I followed this up a couple of times in the DA when I caught him there helping someone else.  He was always friendly and helpfull.

Somehow, I viewed his taunts in the MA a bit differently after this.  They seemed more humerous and amusing than they did before.  I am not sure if it excuses all of the comments he has ever made in the MA, but it does for me.  Thanks Shane.

As for who was my mentor.  The first person that took me up and let me follow him around (although I think he was using me as bait.) was COACH.  I am sure he does not remember, but he used to tell me to get the HELL out of the F4U and fly a easy (read: Dweeb Plane) to start off.  I tried the whole Spit thing, but could not stay away from the BIG BLUE MONSTER!  OK I admit it: Hello my name is MEF4UD and I am a F4U addict.  It has been 30 mins since my last kill and I NEED ANOTHER!

SR if you threw a punch and broke your pinky knuckle you don't know how to punch and you hit like a girl.  an effective punch is delivered with the index and middle finger knuckles.  if you twist the wrist and put your hip into the punch you are delivering the full weight of your body into the strike and it is damaging to the opponent provided you land the strike squarely.

Beating someone senseless (that deserves it) until something breaks is still very effective.  It put the fella in the hospital. :aok

This is true...but when twisting your wrist you MUST keep it locked. youll roll it or just break it.
also dont forget to roll your shoulder forward

hit a makiwa fifty times every other day with each hand and all that stuff will sort itself out.  when you deliver a punch the opponent will know he's been tagged.

Back in the days of Airwarrior DOS, the people who taught me the ropes were :
Redcoat
Redbeard
Rocketman
DocDoom
Badger
Prophet

In more recent times (AH), I've learned a huge amount by dogfighting these guys, mainly in the DA/AvA:
Badboy
MtnMan
Dedalos
FX1
Ack-Ack
bipolar
SHawk
Murdr
Skyrock
Widewing
Fencer (the original, the swede)
Oldman
Lazer
BushLT

A couple of 1 on 1 hours in the DA with any of the above = at least a year of experience in the MA.

The most enlightening session I ever had was 14 straight duels with Badboy about 3 years ago - he killed me 13 times straight, and I won a sole fight (the very last one).  I walked away a much better pilot  :salute

BTW, my old handles are shamroc, shamrock, sham, punchy in AH and --is, is---, --is-- in old warbirds/AW.

Fencer (the original, the swede)

Er no, the current one that makes all the plane skins and gets involved in the scenarios is the original one from AW DOS. The swede was the 2nd Fencer.

I was pretty much self taught.  But i do owe a lot to a multiple amount of players...the one that sticks out the most and who i owe the most to is SABER208.  He was my first CO i ever had, the ArcAngles 208th Cmbt Grp.  I was recruited the very first day i was online in AH.  SABER took me in and he and the rest of his squad filled me in on the basics and got my start in AH2.  They are the reason for my addiction, i #S# them  :salute

Self-taught... never even read Shaw... still haven't, lol, but over time I casually surfed "ACM" sites to put names to the actual manuevers I had already been doing. I've never been hesitant to push the envelope in all my rides, or take chances (still, 3 v 1 doesn't need to become a freekin' castrati hordelet v 1 yanno?) even if I often got burned, something which I still do. I'm not a true furballer- I'm more of a lone wolf on the fringes, trying to drag victims away from the fur, or interdiction near enemy bases.  Flying with and against better players in varying situations has been a boon, as well.

I've been relatively blessed with an innate sense for SA (I *do* see the guy who's probably gonna kill me, but more than likely I couldn't get out of the way in time, or wanted to get a kill,) manuevering and in RL i'm a decent shot, but my AH gunnery has always been mediocre (can we say nose bounce at lower speeds?), fortunately for ya'll.

But the one piece of advice (given way back in AW3 on Gamestorm by KAK3) that helped me most was about lead turn in the merge.. starting *before* we actually crossed.. and the timing involved with various aspects of net-lag, i.e., starting the move when the other guy was still about 1.2k away.  This has been reduced somewhat with better overall internet connections by a few hundred yards, around 800/1k-ish.  And with HOs enabled, it's safer for the most part than getting too close in.

If we all had perfect zero lag, or in the DA with someone i knew wouldn't HO, I'd start the move as close as 300-500yds away.

I still use(d) this concept in the DA when I had people start their zoom up around 1k out while I went  into a flat turn -  allowing them to roll, spot and drop back down in the slot with a better guns solution - in range as opposed to out of position.

Who were yours?  The peeps who taught you the most about the game?

I am just bored with all the other threads right now!

:aok

I was a h2h'r, (under the name Trigger2, later to be Trig17th, and known in the MA as TAsTrig, an aerofighter and 81st Krewsader) I learned alot on my own, learned the basics without any help.
Then TA57 had his server, and so did Xena.
Both of these servers had some of the best h2h pilots (some you might know... ub6, spacy TA57x etc...) and I got my butt handed to me on a regular basis.
TA57x taught me some of the basic engagement stuff, shot me down many times in the name of 'you're learning' xD and gave me ride-alongs in his f4u-4...

Then once I got more and more experianced, and became one of the 'better' h2h pilots (still not a spacy TA or ub6...) I tried to start teaching some of the people who asked for it.

I picked up the fm2 for a while, and later picked up, and kept, the f4f, and I started teaching a guy how to use it in Xena (which, I later learned was the 17th Air Warriors) server, and got asked to join the 17th as a trainer.

So I taught quite a few guys in there, and had a blast with it. I tried to pick up the f4u-1c but I tried to fly it like a -4, and Xena noticed this, she taught me how to use the -1c right, she gave me the basics of throttle control, flaps, and rudder.

F4u-1c was my h2h plane from then on, and I got decent in it, a few squadies and I would constantly fight, them in spixteens, me in my chog :] I'd usually get owned, but, hey, it was fun.

Then Tex (Yeah, David Lee Hill) came back from a LONG break from the 17th, and during one of the practices, he showed me the loops of the p40 and lghey :]

I started in the MA after h2h was shut down, and joined TAs Aerofighters Inc, all of us are old h2h'rs, and we showed that h2h'rs had a spot in the MA too, but I still had alot to learn...

So...
TA took me out again in the f4u's
Spacy the zeke
Orange in the 109 (G series)
Pieper/Earshot showed me the p38
And I taught myself my p47, b24, and the spitty [:

Bighorn, batfink, dedalos, and stang have helped me in the DA a couple times.  Other than that I've just picked up random things and "monkey see monkey do'd" while flying with squadmates.  The 80th and Bighorn have probably helped my flying more than anything else.

*cough*BS*cough*....

These guys only cherry picked, diving to the deck, the second they get killed reupping at the 8k start field, diving down 500+MPH at the con that just killed them and suicidally doing this over and over.

You dared keep your alt and fly well and they would fly off in the other direction and come back at 20k+ and repeat the pattern.

TAs room was one of the worst. Unforunately, at the time you were there it was one of the few regular rooms.

Teaching new folks bad habits IMO.

Every time I went into those rooms I grew tired instantly of the same-ol'e,-same-ol'e. Still, the fact that he RAN a room, period, is a good thing regardless of his setup so kudos to him for that.

There were a few dweebs who did that, and that was Xena's perferred style [:

But TA Space and UB6 (UB6 and Spacy flew zekes... not the best BnZ imo :)) were stall fighters, and TA57 was usually on the deck (eh, 2.5-4k.)
