Title: Server Microfreeze
Post by: RichardDarkwood on November 17, 2020, 05:02:11 AM
Has anyone else been experiencing micro freezes while playing? Doesn't matter which server I am in the game will freeze up for a second or two.

Short answer: Yes.

Verbose
I thought the issue was my PC and video card.  I upgraded to an I9 processor and modern video card a few months back.  Just a stupid fast system that can calculate Pi to the last digit in 3.14 seconds (silliness to make a point).

I started having the phenomena again a few days ago that my GUI freezes for 1-2 seconds once, each time I login.

Perhaps this need s to go in tech support but answering here for now.

Thanks.  :salute

I wanted to make sure I wasn't the only one.

Last night in the great furball most of the time it didn't happen. Probably half a dozen times right as I had a good shot my screen would freeze up for 1-2 seconds which makes me think its a packet loss issue so I ran a ping test and it all looks good.

Wondering if its Hitechs servers with an issue?

Same here - I thought it was on my end; seemed to start after the last patch.

Yes, ~1 second freezes, began about a week ago. I hadn't had any in many months prior.

Yup!

I'm pretty sure it only happens in dx11 though.

My game also completely freezes generally when I first log on after about 3-5 minutes. Many times just after I take off. My game will completely freeze. I have to control alt delete and close out the game that way. When I try to come back in, I get a white screen for about 2 minutes and then finally the game comes back on to the first start menu. Still have no Idea what the heck is causing that but its really aggravating.

Good point.  Mine has only occurred in VR/DX11 at random times.

When I tried making films many moons ago I complained about such a thing.
It's DX11 and AcesHigh not getting along so well, swap to DX9 AH and it's all good in the hood.

From what I can recall, it's the DX11 version, and people have been reporting it pretty much since the DX11 version existed.

When I came back in April I had no screen freezes. Not until the last couple weeks.

I've been back since June, and had not noticed any problem until recently.  I have been playing alot more VR in the last couple of weeks though.  Not sure if VR or last patch related.

Yes.

Sometimes frequently in a short period and then no freezes or FR drops.

I see no rhyme or reason for mine other than FR drops in the clouds.

Also happens sometimes when I use the mic, not very often but enough to notice the two go together.

I cancelled my Steam Aces High account because Steam makes HiTech use the DX11 version.  Now that im back to paying HiTech directly, I still use DX11 because DX9 has really long alt-tab load times for me.  I prefer the stutter everytime im about to drop a bomb or shoot someone since I alt-tab alot in downtime.  Would be nice if it was addressed instead of passing it off as Microsoft's problem.

It is a Microsoft problem, it's an issue with DirectX 11.  Microsoft would have to address the issue to fix it, which they have with DirectX 12.

Well, surely it would just be a recompile to bring it to DX12 and fix it then right?  :D :bolt:

Historically I've noticed microfreezes/lag has often been related to audio driver issues.

I went back to DX9 but now the 1 sec or so micro freeze is happening there.

No micro freezes but crazy warps

Saw a plane go into the ground and back out last night

Crappy internet connections will be the death to these online games

Without a solid connection for you and your target the game is not playable

Yes it’s been happening to me for about 2 weeks now.

I’ve been getting disconnected, or kicked to desktop a lot more frequently as well, that part is probably just my internet. It can be spotty sometimes.

Don't need to wash your hands if you got a clean hose.

Anyways, back to topic, I've had the freezes too. I know its DirectX related, and seems to happen whenever I update my Graphics Card's drivers... maybe?

I wash before and after.... it's how you keep it clean.  :rofl

I have noticed a few short freezes. Have not been knocked to desktop though.

Is that why I get freezes using the mic?

OK what I found is this. Oculus have two drivers showing:

 - Microphone (Rift Audio)
 - Microphone (Oculus Virtual Audio Device)

Every time I get an Oculus update it switches to the Virtual Audio Device driver. This causes micro stutters and my mic stops working. When I force it back to (Rift Audio) it solved the issue for me.

IIRC I had to do it for speakers as well. I no longer use the Rift headphone as my right side headphone doesn't work (I use bluetooth headphones now).

I've been getting the jitters lately too and while I usually just disable the virtual audio device entirely as I use Mantis headphones on my RiftS, I haven't even checked it was there the least couple of updates. Probably because I've been checking to see if my audio prefs have been changed in OBS after an oculus update and saw they haven't. Usually an oculus update does this and ends up muting my recordings. I'll give that a look when I can get to my PC. Bet that's it too!

Yes, it happens almost every time I fly, typically when there is a change in visuals, such as when I am diving down to an airfield. As I get closer to the field, there can be a slight freeze.

The freezing was so severe, I left Aces High a couple of years ago. When I returned, the instances of freezing were greatly reduced. So, today I just tolerate it.

One interesting point, though. About a month ago I was flying in formation with another bomber and I noticed a brief freeze. I quickly asked the other pilot if he just experienced a freeze, and he responded "yes." I have no idea what this might mean, except that we both experienced the phenomenon at the same time so it may not be directly related to our home hardware configurations.

Last night I had a ton of the small freezes that others are experiencing. I fly an Oculus Quest now, and I'm wondering if this is the issue as well... Time for a separate gaming mic headset?!
