Wisconsin Student Charged With Faking Her Own Abduction
« on: April 14, 2004, 12:11:30 PM »
If one woman is crazy enough to fake her own abduction, I wonder how many women are crazy enough to cry "rape!" when the sex was consensual.

I haven't been following the Kobe Bryant trial.  How's that coming along?

University of Wisconsin Student Charged With Obstruction for Staging Her Own Disappearance

The Associated Press

MADISON, Wis. April 14 — Audrey Seiler, the University of Wisconsin-Madison student accused of staging her own disappearance last month, was charged Wednesday with two misdemeanor counts of obstructing officers.
Each charge carries a jail sentence up to nine months and a maximum fine of $10,0000.

Dane County District Attorney Brian Blanchard filed the 16-page criminal complaint two weeks after Seiler, a 20-year-old sophomore, was discovered in a marsh area within a mile of her campus apartment, when she told police a man with a knife and a gun was in the area. She was reported missing March 27.

Her claim touched off a major manhunt, which authorities said accounted for most of the money they spent on the case. The Madison police department last week estimated its costs at $96,000.

She had also reported an unexplained attack in February.

Sad

I recall that town went nuts (in a good way) when she was found, free pizzas, etc.

Yeah, the university's home page had a message on it for her when she first disappeared, and again when she was found.

I'm guessing she has issues with her parents and is stressing over exams.  Big "A" maybe?

Dumb *****.

Under Wisconsin law, is there any chance of restitution payments for the wasted taxpayer money?

I'm from Madison and there are a LOT of people P*ssed off (me included).

Their laywer was on the news this morning stating that this whole abduction thing was to get the attention of a boyfriend.  He then continued to say that she is a straight A student, member of some honor society, a star basketball player.  (basically has EVERYTHING) going for her, but has major problems that need sorting out.

MAJOR PROBLEMS????  You want problems honey???  How 'bout we strap your &ss to the back of a hum-vee, you can man a 50 cal and drive down the streets of bagdad on a patrol.  Then you'll have something to b1tch about.

The cost of the search for the alledged kidnapper was somewhere in the $100,000 range.  If there is any justice, they'll make her pay that back.

This whole situation really gets my panties in a bunch.  Sorry, had to vent

What's everyone so uptight about?

Sheeesh, I fake being abducted all the time.  What a hoot it is to get everyone all riled-up and panicked.  It makes me feel special and important.  So what if the police spend time and effort looking for me, at least it makes them feel special too!  Think about it, the media and viewers all get a happy ending to a story and then they get to feel special.  I think that more people need to fake being abducted, and then everyone would feel special!  It’s a win-win situation!

Me too! uh... except it's not faked, and the little grays do experiments on me before beaming me back to my La-z-boy... yeah that's it...

I hope this doesn't effect the response of local communities to others that really are in need of help....

What she has done can have worse effects than a mispent $100k

I'm with you, Modas.  She did it to get back at a boyfriend?  First time I've heard that but it would be reasonable (if its possible to have a reasonable explanation for faking your own disappearance for any reason other than to collect insurance money or escape from law enforcement).

That girl isn't all there, straight "A" honor student or not.  She's got some serious issues and a lot of growing up to do.

The real tragedy is the twin who lost her sister to the Iraqi ambush.
