CTD Linked to sounds?
« on: June 20, 2004, 04:55:14 PM »
Most CTDs that I've been getting have been very random, and no particular way to describe what happened.

I did have one that CTD'd me -  I was strafing a CV group in a 110 and when I was hit, believe by manned ack, I CTD'd.

This was a very abrupt CTD and It sounded like that nasty "hit" sound didn't even complete...I think I CTD'd about 1/2 way through the soundwave file being played.

O - another time was just after bombing a base (b17s), some one started on Vox, and I CTD'd.

I'm not getting so many CTD's as I'm getting stuck in sound loops and having to reset or shut down my system.  They were happening during vox but now seem to happen at random.

Disco's are bad too.  System goes into a screen freeze and 10 to 40 seconds later "host connection lost" message comes out.  Got shot down the last time before disco finally occured.

I have notice this also, but discovered that my imported sounds were causing the problem.   With stock sounds, I get no CTDs, so I think that it may be possibly caused by the format of the imported sounds.   I have looked into the sounds and some stock sounds are 8 bit and others 16 bit, both at 22500.   Maybe HiTech or Scuzzy could shed a light on the correct format to use.

Yeah, I've been getting alot of audio loops / abnormalities every now and then. Last night at a18, every time I would go into the tower there was always a gunfireing...lol sounded like someone had an m16 near the tower and was holding the trigger down.

I looked for newbs, but didn't see anything, nor any manned ack firing.

I Use norton, so I went into my firewall settings and deleted all the aceshigh.exe settings that were in there. there must've been about 6-7 from since the last time I did it from all the patches downloads. Each patch/download caused norton to set up a new "rule" for it.

Then ran ah2 again and set up firewall then, at log-in.
Seemed to help some with the disco's. But CTD remain.

Since the AH2 stock engine sound bite is 16 bit at 22500, I converted all my 8 bit sounds to that and so far haven't had a CTD or locked sound loop.    When they were 8 bit sounds, I would CTD 2 or 3 times a night.   After converting them, haven't had a CTD or lock up so far.  :)

How and what did you use to convert the sounds????

There is a free program called Asia that has a built in converter.  You can get it at:
