".. a question for you guys.. how do you load 'em for Air to air combat? What fuel/tankage combo do you like?? How do yah load 'em for JABO ops?? Just askin for my mission Planner sheet."

A-A I take 25% internal and one drop tank. That's for close action. If I want to fly two grids away and either make it back or have some endurance I take one drop tank but increase fuel to 50%.
For fighter-bombing missions I'll take 50-100% fuel (depends on distance to target), ten rockets and two 1k bombs. It'll out climb a P-47 or P-51 similarly armed. And with the dive brake I like to get to 15k, chop the throttle and nose over like a dive bomber to pick off a particular target.

P-38 is a mean mutha in a low alt furball that has alot of cons. It's no match for turn fighting against 2 or 3 decent opponants on your own but get in a high planbe count furball and heee  heeee heee

Real men fly the P38....<S> Cit and all dedicated 38 drivers   May the rest of you find yourself in front of my guns....hehehe. Okay I do like the 109F4 with pods and both P47's  . The rest of ya are just dweebs   (j/k). Only other planes I really want are P39 variants and the ME262.

Ok, my fav loadout Hang is 75% fuel and 1000lbrs and roks for Jabo. Long escort full fuel and both tanks, short-med escort 75% and 1 tank. I used to only take 50%, but found I was having to rtb to soon for lack of fuel, usually when things are just heating up.

With all this glamorizing of P-38s and their pilots... I feel the need to point out that P-47 pilots are in serious contention for this award.

I think there should be a waiting period to evaluate these planes after JABO is scored separately from fighter sorties.  Both planes suffer slightly skewed stats as a result of the a2g role.

The new scoring system Pyro talked about should change that some Deja.  Folks will be able to choose how they want a mission scored, as A2G or A2A.  That should let us get stats on just the Jugs used for fighter sorties.

Personally I've been switching between the D30 and the D25.  I dunno why... just because.    I die lots in both of them. <G>
