DVD's on laptop have no sound
« on: March 28, 2006, 09:27:25 PM »
Tries a few dvd on my new laptop and both have no audio. I tried using media player 9 and then divx media player, both have no luck. MP3 files work just fine though. Is there a trick in to getting the dvd audio to work?

Edit - I even used the speaker plugs and fiddled with the volume and dvd audio settings, didnt help.

I think you need a dedicated DVD program installed.  I know when I was having problems with my DVD player, the computer would not load DVD's on WMP when  I didn't have something like PowerDVD installed anyway.

MW - here's a shot in the dark for you to consider.

Like many other guys on these boards, I build all my own PC systems from scratch. My current system has an Asus A7N8X-DLX mobo with onboard sound.

I can play sound files (.WMV, .WAV etc.) using various programs like Windows Media Player or Winamp. I can also play CD audio files, but... in order to do that, an extra cable is needed, linking the audio out port on the CD/DVD player to a port on the mobo. I think this is because the hardware is playing the audio CD, not a piece of software.

I wonder if your laptop has the equivalent of this cable installed?
