Well, ok, one more. If possible, always try to shoot the bad guy on your buddy's six before shooting at the badguy on his 12
Since you mention that, I'm interested in advice or opinions about this situation:
The other day, I was fighting an Fw190 in a P51D. No other bandits were nearby so there wasn't any real hurry, and I was low on ammo so I needed to make every shot count. The Fw190 driver was also pretty good, and made me work very hard for a shot. The fight lasted longer than it might have if I had ammo to spare, but I kept taking short bursts and eventually took out his engine. But the fight wasn't over...
I was down to the two 0.5s with just under 200 rounds left... and he was still making me work for it... eventually I was sat on his tail at 200 yards and I was taking my time to line up to finish him off with my last 150 rounds or so, but what the hey, I was in no hurry...
Meanwhile, I checked and was certain there were no other enemies in sight. You just know if you are going to get killed due to target fixation, it is always just before you get that kill shot, but I was clear and the kill was almost certain... I say almost, because at that point a friendly pilot overtook me from a dive and stole the kill with a single burst...
Normally I never complain about a stolen kill, particularly if the other guy has been competing for it with me, and he was just quicker to the kill than I was, but I thought this was very different.
True... I know I shouldn't play with my food, but that steal was so blatant I probably over reacted to it... Not only did I tell him what I thought in no uncertain terms, but I immediately defected and shot him down before he could land it. Even worse, it was a squaddie
Would that have got anyone else fired up enough to do what I did? Was it right, wrong, or... well you tell me?
