New box, Radeon cards....no longer??
« on: February 22, 2007, 05:07:36 PM »
Finally back to build the PC! Geez.

I was going to get the Radeon X1900GT 256MB x16 IceQ3 and I can't find it anymore. Maybe for good reasons? It was 189$
All I see are 1950 series.
What would you guys suggest for this game and to well utilize the below setup?

Conroe 6600  $314 ( price unchanged in the last few months ?! )
Asus P5B deluxe  $194
PC Power & Cooling Silencer 610 EPS12V  $169
SAMSUNG SpinPoint P Series SP2004C SATA  $60

I'm looking at this RAM but I'm open to suggestions
CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)   $239

Thanks.

I'm building a similar rig and was going to use an x1950xt card for it. Then Checkers offered me an xt1900xtx that I'm going to get.

One thing to look at is the timing on your RAM for the P5b board. I couldn't find any Corsair DDR2 800
in 1gb sticks that they recomend, only some Kinsington 512 sticks along with micron and some other maker. Evedently the timing must be either 5-5-5 or 6-6-6 at 1.8v, their recomended makers list was rather small, something you should check out before purchasing.

Well, in the search for the correct type of RAM for the asus P5B deluxe ( still haven't found the spec for the exact ram asus suggests  ) I ran on the mobo's cipsets supported list. Apparently intel has only one chipset highlighted for the 6600, Intel® 975X Express Chipset (instead of P965). If I go to asus to see what modo to use for this 975X it listst P5W-DH Deluxe not P5B-deluxe.

Here's the intel list I'm looking at:

Am I following the wrong road?? :O
