Let's Try an M-18
« on: August 09, 2009, 07:57:12 PM »
Why Not? It's a fast get it done tank with a top speed of nearly 60 mph and a 76mm main gun and a .50 cal.
I think it would make for great LVT defence or guarding a town. its got 1 inch of armour, and vulnerable to air attacks, so it would make a fine non perked plane. So what do you say? Try the M-18?

It's a plane with 1 inch steel plating and a 76mm cannon? This is a MUST have plane, you can't get better than this. And at 60mph, i think it's fair, what's the climb rate?  :D

M-18 Hellcat is a TD with slanted armor making the 1 inch steel plate, 2 inches. Barely enough to stop a 50. caliber round from penetrating.

The hellcat is in the top 3 of tanks that need to be added I'd say the list goes...

1. Panther
2. Comet
3. Hellcat

I'd include a 75mm or 76mm gunned Sherman in the top 3 actually and bump out the M-18.

I agree!   Its just unfathomable, why we don't have a plain ole Sherman in the game,  :huh

Is there a specific reason?  Or, is it just something that the modelers haven't gotten around to yet?

Maybe it is just too mundane, and its more fun to model "cool stuff"...

Who knows, I sure don't?   It is weird tho...

We do not have a Sherman because without a numerical advantage, it is very limited. And it isn't "glamorous".

We already have what amounts to an upgunned Sherman (and I suppose slightly uparmored), and a plain short barrel 75MM gun Sherman, while easy enough to add, likely wouldn't be real popular. Not to say it shouldn't be done.

The M-18 is something of a late war beast, and would probably be real close to being a perk ride. You'd have to know how to use it well before it'd be worth it if perked.

A Panther isn't a bad idea, neither is a Comet. But really, isn't a Panther, being (somewhere around) half way between a Panzer and a Tiger, about where a Firefly is? Not that there is anything wrong with that. At least with regards to guns, the Comet is about where the Panther and Firefly are.

If you had the Panther and the Comet, that would round out the set of the Firefly level, well, I guess if you added an upgunned T-38 as well.

The M-18 would be in a class all its own.

What you'd lack then is an Allied (but non Soviet) counter to the Tiger, if you wanted that, you'd need the Pershing.
