This may have been intended as a figure of speech, but for the record the P-51s guns could not be cocked by the pilot, they had to be cocked by the armorer on the ground.  US Navy planes' guns were cocked (charged) by the pilot.

RE: Scoring
I'm with ezrust- if the AH scoring system doesn't please someone, they should keep the real score offline.   I'd rather HTC spend time on new & improved features rather than squander one second adjusting the scoring mechanism.

I have somewhat greater respect for those that ditch rather than bail, but from a tactical perspective I don't care which they do and I don't need to notch a cheap kill: Either way their sortie is over and that's good enough for me.

Rosco, you are one very cruel man   But I have to agree, next time the guy will think twice before opening his chute.
