I think this would be a bad idea.
As this is a computer game, we lack that extra dimension of 'feel'.
Taking hits on the right wing, for example, would be very noticeable no matter where you were actually looking (let's say, straight up at an enemy con who is firing down). These hits would be felt through the cockpit. You would feel cables snap and you would feel large chunks of landing gear and control surface fly off your aircraft.
None of this is available and short of readily noticeable loss of a wing tip, none of the current visual aspects of damage for other components can really give you the same 'feel'.
For this reason I think it would be a bad idea to remove the damage list.
