To the greatest generation,  :salute

I am embarrassed for modern media.  Their freedom is secured by guys like Maj. Winters.

Turns out "modern media" was just following Major Winter's wishes.

Modest as ever, Winters asked that news of his death be kept private until after his funeral.

He passed January 2, 2011.

he should have been awarded with the CHM in 1946 for the artillery nest take on D-Day as well as capturing the map with all the current enemy positions on it.

He would never allow his name to be associated with the word "hero" (as does my father-in-law, D-Day, plus pulled woulded guys off the line as a medic during the Huertigen Forest campaign--X3 Bronze Stars) yet they both truly were.

A remarkable man.

It was very interesting to carry out the flight trials at Rechlin with the Spitfire and the Hurricane. Both types are very simple to fly compared to our aircraft, and childishly easy to take-off and land. (Werner Mölders)
