Those aren't gear doors.

They are testicles.

Buzzin Cuzzin is a 51D restored to represent the 78th 51 of that name that was flown in WW2.  I believe it was done in tribute to the pilot who is/was living at the time.

Twilight Tear is the actual 51D that flew combat with the 78th in WW2.  Both beautifully done restorations.

yes BC is my friends airplane. COL. Bill Spengler was the original pilot during WW2. :salute
and Dolby those mirrors were taken from a spitfire (i don't remember what model). but they were on the original Buzzin Cuzzin during WW2.

Cupped Spitfire mirrors were coveted by 51 pilots.  Most used one, but there are a number o examples of two of the cupped mirrors being put on a 51.  The cupped mirror showed up with the Spit IX and the Spits that arrived after that.

This is a prime example of why I learn way more from this game than I ever have/will learn from T.V  :salute
