Ranting time
« on: July 18, 2012, 10:20:06 PM »
My local newspaper is online and has a facebook section to post comments, one of the topics was "Chiropractor goes back to work" - first comment posted was a woman who berated Chiropractor's and said they were worthless and do nothing.
I posted a trolling type comment saying the "woman" was off her meds, she's apart of an atheist group who enjoys doing combat with any local church function/government because few years ago they decided that the "Mayor wasn't allowed to have Prayer before meeting".

Anyhow, she berates the practice saying its hurting the human body and such and I respond - well it worked for me - she claims its a lie, I said ok granted then you must believe acupuncture is a joke as well - this woman flat out says its a joke for medicine that never should be used.

Anyhow I flipped out, I suffered from clustered headaches for years without actually having it diagnosed, I had half my teeth pulled out - I had dozens of tests ran, I've been to dozens of doctors mainly neurosurgeons and such. Nobody could peace together my problem.

Finally I go see a guy who does acupuncture whose a 72 yr old Korean, I never even heard of acupuncture up to few months ago. He says "ahh yes, suicide headaches, I think I might be able to help although it is not for sure".

Here's some info on clustered headaches:
Dr. Peter Goadsby, Professor of Clinical Neurology at University College London (now University of California, San Francisco), a leading researcher on the condition has commented:
"Cluster headache is probably the worst pain that humans experience. I know that’s quite a strong remark to make, but if you ask a cluster headache patient if they’ve had a worse experience, they’ll universally say they haven't. Women with cluster headache will tell you that an attack is worse than giving birth. So you can imagine that these people give birth without anesthetic [several] times a day. Many cluster headache sufferers have committed suicide, leading to the nickname "suicide headaches" for cluster headaches. Cluster headaches often occur periodically: spontaneous remissions interrupt active periods of pain, though there are about 20% of suffers whose cluster headaches never remit. The cause of the condition is currently unknown. It affects approximately 0.1% of the population, and men are more commonly affected than women."[1]

Yes the pain is up there, anyhow this 5'2 korean puts two dozen needles into me in various places and lets me leave them in there for an hour or two? can't remember. Since March or so I have not had one single full blown headache - its been two very very minor headaches, I'm talking normal wise headaches, nothing more then simple pain you wait an hour and it disappears.

Its now July - and I have not had headaches since then, how does it not work? It might not last - pretty sure it won't its a lifetime disease that you deal with. However I am just frustrated that someone would openly ignore open medicine that has a possible chance to cure a problem.

I see it in the news all the time, people believing in "faith healing" and ultimately pay the price when it doesn't work instead of going to traditional medicine because of beliefs, I understand believe me, but in my situation I tried every thing I possibly could, regardless of "beliefs" or anything else.

Not trying to be a troll or start a war on a BBS, just thought maybe someone could learn something from this experience.

Home remedy when you have a cold:

Blanket
Pot of water
Lemongrass

Put lemongrass in the pot of water. Boil it. Cover yourself and the pot with blanket. Sit there and inhale the steam coming off the pot. Basically it's a home made sauna. Works damn well for headaches, colds, stuffy noses/runny noses, coughs.

Family's been doing it since god knows when.

the game is concentrated on combat, not on shaking the screen.

I too am a lucky award winner of cluster headaches.  I've contemplated running a drill through my temple many times.  I'm on some pretty hardcore meds for em now, but I'm willing to give acupuncture a try if there's a chance of success.  There's a chiro right down the street that does it.  Cluster headaches really do make you wish for death when you are going through them, and I get them a lot.  They actually run i.e. ruin my life most of the time.  Hell, I ain't afraid of needles.  Poke away Doc!  Make it a double!  Will call em this week and post later after I get stabbed.

Ranger, I tried two things that actually work - acupuncture and botox - if you find the right plastic surgeon - he will charge you specifically for the medication for (medical reasons not cosmedic) which comes to around $90 plus whatever the staff charges are. This eliminated over 60% of the pain, only problem is every 3+ months you need a new shot, it does help you overall though (although it did for me it might not for others).

Acupuncture worked for me, I am living proof since Late Feb I had literally two minor headaches - I'm talking laughable minor headaches - no ghost pain beforehand, they just show up and you are like...Ok real headache or CH?
Then again sadly it might work for you I wish it would - I have no clue, I tried dozens of things people came up with on a CH website for people, things like pure oxygen did not work, I sleep 10 hours a night and have not had an interupted night of sleep in over 4 years.
I eat right, exercise daily - Drinking is the only thing that I can relate too but after not drinking for 3 years it did nothing to slow things down - I tried the medication but its well over $450 for 5 pills, not even gona bother since it does not STOP the headaches, only minimize them during the attacks.

Botox worked for a while, but it starts to "open up" when the botox wears off after a few months, when you start approaching 3 months it becomes obvious you need a new shot.

Acupuncture was just a shot in the dark, I figured why not everything else failed, although I attribute it to the 15 or so herbal aid pills I take daily - I can't say for exact certain what stopped it, but I am still getting them so i know it has not disappeared yet.

If it works it works :old:

I believe that a lot of instances taking time out for yourself can be the cure for problems, Clubs,Churches or gardening for example can give you time to remove yourself from unhealthy enviroments and situations.

You colonials even use firearms and 4x4 16v all terrain vehcles to relax and take time out :old:

Hospitals are a unhealthy place to be if you ill as well :old:

Any of you Cluster Headache guys ever gotten looked over for an Arachnoid Cyst? First thing though....DO NOT READ ONLINE OR GIVE MUCH CREDENCE TO THE GOOGLE SEARCHES for what they are. My oldest son has one and the neuro guy that we were sent to says many people go their whole life and have no idea that they even have the cyst there. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arachnoid_cyst

We found out by accident that our son had one because he was getting an MRI and CT for getting hit in the throat with a lacrosse ball going about 50 mph. As soon as they found that the throat was the least of the worries until they confirmed what type of cyst it was.

Anyway it could be a cause for massive headaches and might be something to get checked out for; especially if you have had head trauma of any type.

For the most part, MD's can do one of two things. Medicate or operate.

If modern medicine does not help, there is nothing wrong with trying alternatives. I am not willing to discount something that Asians have done for centuries.

I've just recently started being treated for them after years of battling them on my own (I'm stubborn that way).  They are supposed to be scheduling a CT scan to make sure it's not due to a tumor or any other horrible thing like that.  I'll ask about Arachnoid Cysts.  Thanks.

Isn't this (cluster headaches) also called the suicide nerve?  My father has it and was on crazy meds for it. He has a great job and awesome insurance. He went to so many drs and nobody could help just more meds. Finally he broke down and went to get acupunctur and while he isn't fully cured he said he feels as if 90% of everyday pain is gone

Its called suicide headaches, most people that don't get dignoised for it end up killing themselves because the pain only gets worse over the years.

I cannot afford the meds, 9 pills run roughly $450 and thats not even going to stop it only slow down the effects of it.

yeah he told me that every breathe he took almost brought him to tears. He would go days without eating. He is a supervisor at L.I.P.A (long island power authority) and they had to take him out of the field because he couldn't do anything. Several times his guys had to take him to emergency room. But after like his 4th trip to the acupuncturist he was feeling a lot better.
he has to go for "tune ups" like twice a month.

Hey to say the least you have nothing to lose.  Bad example my wife went to a chiropractor for her back pain.  Unfortunately during a session they cracked one of her ribs.  Ended up having each of the nerve ends burned to kill them.  It did help for about 2 years but definitely was not cheap.
