How to display German flag vertically?

I was almost certain that the black went to the right. The other one just looked plain wrong (to me), but being from a country where the flag is symmetrical in such a way that we have never learned about how to hang it vertically, I decieded to check.

Turned out the black really DO go to the left as Duedel said.

That wouldn't work, because on the Belgian flag, the gold is in the middle, and the black and red are either side of it. But admittedly, I thought the same thing!

Um... and you guys saying that the top of the US flag goes to the right are actually wrong.  The union (the blue field with stars) is ALWAYS on the top left corner.  That means that if you hang it vertically, you don't just tip it over to the right.  You tip it over to the right and flip it.

Not that I'm especially concerned, but that's what the 'rules' say...

The flag is oriented from the FLAG'S perspective. So the top of the flag goes to the FLAG'S right, or our left as you look at it.
