At one time there was a system of depots for resupply, which were capturable but it didn't last long (can't remember why: probably mass whinging) and was turned off again.

Depots and train stations were added as part of the new strat in 1.08 but were disabled again in 1.09 when the zone strat system (the current one) was brought in.  General opinion seemed to be that capturing depots and stations was pointless when you could just go ahead and capture the fields directly.
