Top Ace contest is wonderful idea IF you add a bull's-eye to the icon of the leader.

Would be fun to see the bull's-eye swarmed and see how many times the lead changes even in one or two sorties.

In other words, Top Ace contest seems unnecessary complication and distraction in Aces High's "purest" arena.

I don’t think that it will work at all in generating interest without any kind of a prize.  The current HTC ranking system does not seem to motivate or draw people into the CT.  As someone who generally ranks high, I can verify that any kind of a title is nearly meaningless.  Very few folks seem to care about rank in the CT.  Lots of MA types must know that they could fly in the CT and rank very well with little effort, but they don’t.

If HTC will give a free month or two subscription for the winner of the contest, you might get some interest and new players.  The cash prizes in the MA have clearly drawn interest.  Could something similar in the CT boost it?  Probably at least a little.

I agree with DJ111 that such a contest will scare some folks away from fights.  The current score system also incorporates K/T, K/S and hit %.  Kills per Time is critical to good score/rank/contest.  It motivates people to fight, not run.  It is very critical.
Kills per sortie isn’t as important as the others but detracts from upping to intercept one lone con.
Hit percent sort of measures a skill and helps prevent spray-n-pray.

Eskie, if I read you correct, the K/D is not a good measure, but perhaps the hit percentage and kills? Or a kills/time ratio?

Yep, I'm working on giving a month or two free away - just gotta check with Dale/Doug - seeing how busy they are I'm just waiting for the right time to ask. :)

Keep .... it ... simple. No need to make something complicated that really isn't. Fighter points. :D

Fighter point eh?  Hmmm... to be honest, that might work quite well.  It's a combination of hit %, kills, K/D, etc.  I've asked and am just waiting to see what Dale/Doug say.

Sorry im very picky. but about the campaigns.

The battle of Coral Sea was before Midway...

and its spelled Solomon islands.
you had me going through my WWII history books to find something about the battle of Salmon island. Im a pretty big PTO buff, so you had me worried!

But im adverse to the top ace thing. part of me just dont like it. its probably because i know i could never win it. :lol

Why not go with Fighter Rank for top ace?

That can't really b "milked" to be better, right?

Fighter rank is a good measure.

The three most important are: K/D, K/T and points.
K/D is obvious why it is a good measure.
K/T encourages fighting when not always at an advantage.
Points keeps someone who flew one great fighter sortie from parking their score and not flying in fighter mode again.
Points are earned by damaging enemy aircraft.  K/D kills and hit % are not part of points.

These three are critical to balance each other.  The other two add more aspects but are not quite as important, IMHO.  Much easier to go with fighter rank though.

For a contest yes, for basic CT scoring, NO!
