AVA type bombsite
« on: July 25, 2007, 05:48:13 AM »
Is there enabled in the Training arena, a field which rolls bombers with this type of site enabled ? If not, can we get one please? There are many folks who are not yet farmillar with this, and would benefit from some training in this area as we would like to get them interested in flying scenarios and events.

Thanks.

The problem I see is that the bombsight setting is an arena option, it's not tied to a specific field. So turning the old bombsight mode on would probably utterly confuse all new players learning in the TA.

Would it not be possible just to practice it in the AvA Arena? Back in the days when I used to fly there, it was always the enabled mode of bombsight. Also there are often few pople on so that you might very well be able to practice unmolested.

We've had some debate about this within the AvA.  For years we used the more difficult bomb sight, on the assumption that we wanted things to be more realistic.  Eventually some folks pointed out that bomber pilots who might otherwise be willing to fly in the AvA might be scared off because of the complicated sight, so we changed it back.  Now it varies from setup to setup, mainly dependent on  the responsible staff member's own sense of how he wants it.  We would appreciate as much input as possible.

That said, you're welcome to come bomb to your heart's content in AvA.  Remember, though, that there is no "winning" in that arena.  Taking all of one country's bases simply porks everything until a staff member is able to come in and reset things.  So please bomb something, but don't bomb everything.

You could always load up the Training Arnea map offline so you get the high altitude airspawns and then change the settings yourself.
That way you can practice whichever bombsite method you want, from the easy to more realistic way of doing it.
Far too many, if not most, people on this Board post just to say something opposed to posting when they have something to say.

Would love to. The squad logged in last night, and the only thing available was the Boston. The AVA is planeset dependant, and rightfully so. There needs to be a place where that type of bombsite can be practiced.

Well I guess then you will probably have to do like Fuzeman said: As long there is no appropriate AvA setup, practice it offline.

If no more than 8 people flying: Sure.
You can change the bombsight mode in Arena Settings.
Select Flight Mode Flags, then uncheck Auto Calibrate Bombsight.
