sound issues
« on: January 15, 2008, 09:54:07 PM »
Tonight I started to see an interesting sound related problem.

Here are the symptoms: (note these are all through headphones)
1: I can not hear my own plane's engine
2: I can not hear the startup/shutdown of my plane's engine
3: I can not hear vox.
4: All other sounds come through clear.

** I can hear my plane's engine through my external speakers when I turn the amplifier up all the way.

Have you ever seen this set of symptoms before?  I am using an integrated sound card at this time, and my headphones use the speaker output.

Thanks for any help you folks can give

Also, make sure mic is on and boost is selected at desktop. Select Wave-In under sounds in AH. Sometimes the system for whatever reason, updating drivers etc. may turn off the mic  by default.

thanks for the thoughts so far, I do want to clarify the vox issue:

Other people can hear me talking, but I can't hear other people talking.

Another thing:

If my head if pointed forward in the cockpit, weapons fire is muffled, but if I turn my head to left or right, I can hear the weapons fire at normal volume.

I've ran through all the sound settings in AH, and all of them seem normal.

Any more help you folks can give is much appreciated.

sound like your speakers are set up wrong.

Left is right, right is left. Could be even more trouble if you have surround sound.

Right click your speaker icon down by your clock, and open the sound properties. Check which speaker setup you have selected and test them for sound placement.

Interesting thought, and it does seem that way at least somewhat.

I don't have the ability to actually reverse the setup, but within my control panel I do have the ability to vary the volume to each individually.

I found that if I turned down the volume completely on one of the speakers, I went back into the game and I was able to hear my own engine just fine.

I wonder what could have happened from one day to the next.

Could it be a physical sound card issue?

Any more thoughts?

thanks again

glennco!

I just had exactly the same problem. Suddenly no engine sound, start-sound and I could just barely hear what people said over the vox. What I needed to do was to completely remove and then reinstall my soundcard drivers (Creative Sound Blaster Live). After that it all works fine again. :)
