Manual Calibration Option...
« on: November 10, 2009, 09:52:38 AM »
Just that...

I wish to have the ability to have manual calibration even tho the arena is setup for automatic. If we are going to bomb in wind it would be nice to have full functionality of the Norden bombsight. Of course this would be more for scenario type things but its a simple request, that would make certain tasks easier.

It is available...........

go to clip board pull up preferences, then map controls, then click the little box that says advanced then select each axis and MANUALLY calibrate it, then click OK, BUT DON'T be flying when you do it cause....   well try it flying and see  :rofl
It's been said we have three brains, one cobbled on top of the next. The stem is first, the reptilian brain; then the mammalian cerebellum; finally the over developed cerebral cortex.  They don't work together in awfully good harmony - hence ax murders, mobs, and socialism.

The OP is asking for manual bombsight calibration to be enabled.

As for your comment, I calibrate while flying all the time.  You don't have to move to the full sweep of each axis long enough to mess you up too bad....

Strip, I've been wondering about manual calibration lately... Specifically if it would fix wind drift and other things.

Does it compensate for cross winds as well?

Specifically, I was wondering if you're in a tail chase on a CV, lined up, and you calibrate with "auto" you have to lead it because the ship is still moving.... But if you use manual calibration will it take that ship motion into effect, and you put the pipper directly on the CV to hit it?

Would be interesting.

As far as I know the Norden bombsight never had a way to manually enter airspeed. So you would not be able to enter a number and have the bombsight calibrate to that number. However you can already do what your talking about, with a few tricks and patients. Level your bomber and build your airspeed to around 35 mph below estimated cruise speed. Once calibrate speed your bomber up to normal cruise speed, viola, your calibrated for a no lead drop on CV.

AFAIK yes it will account for crosswind....

Yes.....manual calibration will compensate for wind with no "kentucky windage" required, tested it offline.

I have been doing well without it but might help some of our newer bombers dealing with crosswind.

Not to mention its fun to watch and use the sucker...
