Why?  What on Earth could somebody do with a tail number, or a license plate for that matter?  If there was any real risk, you'd have the bad guys cruising to the airport to steal tail numbers from planes parked on the tarmac.

Say you get pissed off at someone on the forum, and they post a tail number. You look at their tail number, find where it's registered than call FAA and tell them that there was a low flying aircraft (or something) in this area with such a tail number. Do that a few times and the owner will not be very happy.

You forgot the part where they throw you into jail for your false reports.

You really think everyone who does such things plans to be put in jail?

NO... that is why they have a surprised look in the picture they give you with a number at the bottom.

1000s of folks see these numbers when they fly...... same with license plates.

I agree it's a bit over the top, nobody "evil" can really do anything with them that will land someone else (a legitimate owner and pilot) in jail.  I got tons in photos from airshows and can go get a couple dozen more standing at any given spot along the fence at Van Nuys, Burbank or Camarillo airports.

I'd be surprised if you can even call the reporting hotline with a blocked caller ID.  Mail them enough letters without a return address and they'll follow it back to the postal employee or box that's closest to the source.

The tail number thingy is funny  :rofl :noid

Anyway back on topic, the usual reward for such achievements, like 1000th CV landing is a giant bucket of iced water upon stepping out of the plane. ... And I'll add that who ever takes the time to count, and adds assault to injury by wishing to celebrate deserves one  :neener:
