Welcome AW flyers to AH
« on: April 06, 2001, 12:56:00 PM »
Just returned from out of town last night, played a short while and noticed a lot of new guys, including a new squad or two.

Ch1 was unusually busy with new chatter, and I joked a little and teased about it.  But seriously, welcome to AH to all the new players, I hope you enjoy it and stick around.

Thanks, Dago.  My squad, the Krait Squadron, has just been formed here during the last few days, as have the Wings of Death, I believe and, of course, the Knights of Air Warrior, which is a more unusual squad...

Yeah, it's funny, but a lot of the people I know from AW fly for the other two countries, so Ch1 does get busy as we all greet each other as we log on and off... I have made many friends in AW over nearly three years and had lost touch with some of them when they left.  It is great to see so many familiar names here...

Didn't see this post and posted a welcome in another thread, but it bears saying again.

Welcome to all the recent AW folks that have come here.  So far from what I can tell, it seems AH just got a healthy dose of some fine pilots/people.

FYI:  I am the ISP for AH.  If you need any help with connects and such, please hit the Internet forum or catch me online.  I frequent channel 1 a lot and am always willing to help out anyway I can.  I try to answer things in the Internet forum as quickly as possible, but Lephturn seems to beat me to it a lot  .

I look forward to getting to know you guys. <S>

Dago

Why thank you very much Dago sir <G>. As a member of the newly formed squad 'Knights of Airwarrior' we warmly accept your welcome. And maybe it amuses the audience if I elaborate a bit on how the formation of our squadron saw first light.

Over the past weeks, due mostly to bad tidings from the AirWarrior front, many AW pilots had taken a sneak peak into Aces High. Many mouthwatering features were being discussed in a newsgroup called 'BigWeek'. Now this newsgroup is kinda special. It dates back to an AirWarrior beta where the AW operators wanted to test an environment of 200+ players in one scenario at one time. They opened up a free beta, opened up a news host for feedback, and called it operation BigWeek. That was three of four years ago. The events were long since finished, but the newsgroup remained. It changed servers a couple of time (it is now run by Trip of the Kraits squadron) but it is still very active (200+ post/day). Many well known AW players and employees (and former employees I hate to say) frequent it. Many more lurk there. Talk about community <G>. We even have a WWII vet (Earl) who daily posts his diary memoires from his time in Italy during WWII and after.

Since more & more people started talking about AH (I had already done the two weeks thingy) I opted to do a BigWeek bashemup over on Aces High. Well, we didn't do much bashing. Lawndarting was a more accurate description. Or lawnmowing, when we desperately tried to get our fully loaded Lancasters in the air. We really had a great time. We also started the squadron. And it all happened on april fools day. How appropriate <G>.

Anyway, we now have some 18 people, some doing there two weeks, some already signed up. From what I hear, most will sign up after the two weeks are finished. We have such illustrious names in our squadron as Gypsy Baron, Texter, Krusher, 3rdup, Gray Eagle (former Artist at Kesmai Studio's), Diche, Blesk etc etc etc. Most of these are or have been very active in AW scenario's over the last years.

So we are a squadron worth reckoning with <G>. You can see our noble royalty in action this sunday, from 3 PM EST. We sincerely hope the explosions caused by our crashing planes does not disrupt normal arena play too much.

And to HT and Pyro: As a frequent lawndarter over the last week I can safely say that even from below ground level the terrain model looks pretty neat. Kudo's to the HTC team.

Now go fix them dang rubberbands <G>.

Sir Immel, Knight of Airwarrior Bigweek

<SALUTE> AirWarriors , after flying here while still having an AW3 account , I could not understand why anyone would settle for a 10 year old GAME like AW3 . It was hard to leave a place (AW3) where I spent so much time , but this is SO much better . Don't get discouraged guys , after you get used to the FM , you will wonder why you waited so long to join us . Welcome AW3'ers <S>

<S> Skuzzy man that was beautiful.  As a former long time AWer, i've been used to indifferent ISPs with the resultant lags and discos.  It is so nice to hear that you are so involved with AH.  <snif> (i need a moment here) it sure is different from what we AWers are used to.  I love you man.  You can have my best sheep.
