British tanks anyone????
« on: November 04, 2012, 12:14:41 PM »
just to name a few the Churchill MK7, Cromwell, and Centurion MK1 :devil

I'm mostly advocating for the Churchill MK7 because it has decent armor a decent gun slow as hell though none the less a force to be reckoned with once it gets to where its going  :D

or give us the faster Churchill MK1 which went about 20mph lol
with the 6pdr L50 gun of course though to beat up them mediums we got right now  :devil

well here goes nothing FLAME ON :pray

AFAIK the Centurion did not see service in World War 2 as was delivered to units too late but did see combat in Korea.

The late war Comets and Challengers could pack some fire power, both having 17 pounders but both seen limited usage. Both were developments of the Cromwell. I think the Challenger saw limited production of a few hundred before the Sherman Firefly was deemed more useful and served in a similar role to Cromwell units as the Firefly did for Shermans. I think the Comet saw some combat but wasn't issued in very large numbers by the wars end.

Both actually had the 77mm HV, which was a derivative of the 17lber, but with slightly less penetrating power.

What would work best for filling out the British tank set would be:

1) Matilda II
2) Crusader Mk I and III
3) Valentine Mk III and Mk IX
4) Cromwell Mk IV
5) Churchill Mk I, III, and maybe the Mk VII

No real need for the Comet, since we already have the Firefly, which mounts a better gun anyway.

We get all those, it would be better represented than the German tank set.

Matilda would be EW, and the best-armored tank in there as of now. Only the Panzer IV F2 could kill it from the front at any real range.

70mm on the lower hull, 47mm at 67 degrees on the upper hull, 75mm on the turret, 40+25mm on the sides.

Valentine would be less well armored, with 65mm on the turret front, 60mm on the lower hull, 30mm at 68 degrees on the upper hull, but it would also make it into EW with the 6lber, IIRC.

But remember, if we get more tanks in EW, like the Panzer III, Valentine, and M3 stuart, tanks like the T-34 and Panzer IV will become perked.

Valentine Mk IV w/ 2 Pdr or 6 pdr gun options; Crusader Mk III w/ 2 Pdr or 6 Pdr gun options.

IMO, if HTC wanted to add actual British tanks in to AH the best options would be a couple of EW tanks.  Both of these would offer something AH does not have now: a 6 Pdr main gun, and either heavy armor (Valentine) or good speed (Crusader).

The Churchill and Matilta both are painfully slow and have at best average firepower for a main gun for their time frame.  The Cromwell would offer T34/76 speed, the same main gun as the US M4 75mm (unless HTC allowed the 6 Pdr option), and same armor as a m4 Sherman.  So... nothing new there, really.  It would be nice to have though.

I am always up for news tanks. Early British tanks and the Panzer MKIII would be great for EW & MW.
