I've skinned this P-47D-11 for the forthcoming Blitz Week Scenario. While there are already plenty of similar looking ETO skins in the game none of them have the red-rimmed USAAF markings used in July 1943. Now that HT's increased the skins limit I'll be able to submit this for the MA too. Thank you to Lyric1 for finding me the info for this skin.
This P-47D was flown by Major David Schilling, CO of the 56th Fighter Group's 62nd Fighter Squadron from January 1943. It was a War-Bond subscription aircraft and he scored 3.5 kills in it before it made a wheels-up landing in late 1943. In August 1944 Schilling was given command of the 56th Fighter Group and promoted to Colonel. By the end of his combat career in early 1945 he had scored 22.5 kills making him the sixth leading ace in the 8th Air Force.
