"Margie" was a B-26A flown by 1st Lt. Dewitt Flint of the 22nd Bomb Group's 33rd Bomb Squadron while based in northern Australia in late 1942. It was originally assigned to the group's headquarters flight where it was named "El Valiente" and "Calamity Jane" and was later transferred to the 33rd and then to the 19th Bomb Squadron where it was called "Groundhog".
The 33rd Bomb Squadron mostly flew anti-submarine patrols from Australia for a year until February 1943 where they moved to New Guinea and much later to the Philippines and Okinawa. They were reequipped with B-25s in 1943 and then B-24s in 1944.
