I believe that Robert Johnson was describing the climb comparison after a dive stating that it could outclimb a spit if both entered a zoom climb.  His definition of "outclimb" was not which airplane climbed the  fastest, per se, but which climbed the highest during the zoom.  The 7 ton Jug had an obvious advantage in inertia which could be used to great effect in the vertical fight.  A pure E-fighting tactician that Bob Johnson!

Yes Mig Eater  that account is quoted in Shaws where Johnson acknowledges the Spits superior  climb ability. But states the  Jug could roll 2 to 1 vrs the Spit and could out dive and out zoom the Spit! Which 2 models that were portrayed in this account i do not know.
