Brady,

You do an awesome job. Especially dealing with the likes of all of us. One suggestion though. Might want to consider a good spell checker program.;)

Hi! NewB question
« Reply #5 on: February 11, 2003, 10:28:57 AM »
Read the thread about the lethality of it all.  What I can't understand is how come it is still a three sided war in the CT, when only two sides are fighting?  Did someone get lazy with the programming, or editing?  Or is the game just not set up to allow for altering the number of sides in the CT?
===================================
Just had a brain fry:o   This is based on the parent game War Birds, right?  So how come they can have two sides in a combat theater, and we can't?
(I know, that leads to double asking the same question.  Sorry.)

The game is not set up be used with only two sides. So what we do is throw a couple fields in for just one country and make then uncapturable. Their are a couple of ways to acconplish this. One way is to put some distance between them, on the Kuriels map for example NUTTZ put the odd country out over 6 sectors away from any enemy field that could atack them. Another way is to Crank up the Ack. Presently I have isolated the Bish bases by making no troops available withen two sectors and allowing maned guns to be used to defend Bish bases from clueless atackers who miss the BOLD TYPE in the Motd.

This brings another question...
« Reply #7 on: February 11, 2003, 12:25:08 PM »
Why are there vehicle bases in the middle of one sector, that can only 'launch' from the hangar, where it takes forever, (okay an hour) to drive to any other base and attack it?

Are the launch buttons and spawn points reconfgurable to fix that?

Case in point:  the other morning I took a Pzr from one of Rooks southern VH to attack Knight's V19.  Drove for almost an hour to get there.  After dodging through the city (nice touch btw), I blow up a couple buildings then get whacked by some of this so called uber ack.  (answers his own question again)  Where is the sense of taking any vehicle where you have to drive that long to get there?

For you that wonder: I didn't want to take a plane and bomb.  I wanted to see how the tanks worked, without too much opposition to worry about.

Good morning Gissom and welcome to Aces High!...  See you only have 4 posts so I infer your new...

I have a little gentlemens disagreement with the CT staff.. a minor quibble.. I would prefer they use three sides.. If fact if you look at some spits and that.. they have Polish markings.. There's something about the number 3.. Is it a prime number?.. A whole number?.. I don't know.. I do know that AirWarrior, Warbirds, Fighter Ace all use three countrys.. So this terrain is designed to be used in a varity of ways.. CT, Sceniaros, hell you could throw it into the main arena if you wanted without any modification.

To answer your other question, click on "Z" for zone and the veh icon.. As you can see, not many spawn points from the airfields but plenty from vehicle bases.. These make the vehicle bases suddenly strategically very valuable.  I thought of that so beefed up defenses at these vh bases. Er.. went a lil' too far on V11 and D23.. as in they can't be captured.. (a bug, I'm looking into it). The spawn points are exactly 8 miles. A little farther than other terrains but hey.. you mostly get a road to drive down.. doesn't take long. At exactly at the 4 mile mark, you will see a farming compound.. (typical for central Europe) these are set as "barrier" so you can't blast these buildings. You can use these compounds as a sort of field command post, plan your flanking tactics from here.

I found out from CT Staff they turn off "Strat Re-Supply"... Bah! Why?.. Why?... Let me explain.. In other terrains the strat is mostly owned by country, here they are owned by the zone master field.. In this case depots, so you capture the zone master.. ALL THE STRAT FOR THAT ZONE FLIPS OVER! In theory, what's supposed to happen is all the trucks/barges/trains stop making their deliveries.. in effect starving the satilite fields.. It takes them much longer to rebuild... So what you have, if your a chess player, is a big fat CHECK ;)... posible checkmate.

Anyway Gissom glad to see you've discovered the CT.. I hope to see you up soon.

Well that explains the lack of defined zones of control. ;)

Did WB change the format for the HA?  I only recall two countries in there fighting.  Okay.  One time they had three countries, but the third was a "what if" ally to the other.  (runs off to check)
:o

Why or more accurately, who, is putting these bells and whistles in only to turn them off in production?  I would think strategic targets would enhance the way the game is played. :(

I going to go struggle with my tired brain on this some more.

Thanks for the 'welcome in' too. :)   (SALUTE)

V11 Is capturable.

The CT simply aint big enough to suport a 3 sided war on most nights, and most WW2 batles were two sided:) Them and US:)

I generaly turn Strat of in my set up's to simplify the game mechanics, and cut down on player complaints about things not coming up or going down the way they should. If I say in the Motd that a building will be down for 30 I want them to be able to beleave that is the case, with strat on it changes that to an unknown value, in that their are many things that can effect it.

As 10Bears said though this map is designed with multiple uses in mind, and it is working great in the CT presently we have had great attendance and some great battles raging all through the day, and espichaly during prime time, much of this has to with the map.

Holy cow, no!   I am not in favour of a three way war at all!
nope!
no sir!
no way!

It looks like most of the complaints are coming from the people that are not reading the MOTD.  Maybe if CMs(?) took a little more time composing it for easy understanding?  (guilty of hitting the OK, to get flying faster)
Is there any way to make the MOTD non-user interactive?  Instead of us pressing teh OK button, maybe remove it and set the message on a 30 or 45 second delay before it auto-fades?  (okay, so not all of us are fast readers):p

Thanks for the information, guys.  This is helping me a lot with what I see, versus what I should be looking for in the game. ;)
