We seem to have a lot of guys wanting to try their hand at skinning planes these days, so how about all you skinners out there post up some of your favorite creations. You know, showcase your work and inspire the new guys who'll hopefully soon get the chance to strut their stuff in AH2.
I'll go first:
This was my 1st real skin. Nothing fancy, just a silver B26, although I'm kinda proud of being able to do the nose art acceptably well. Note the "annoyance" here of having only 1 texture for both sides of the nacelle, so I couldn't do an anti-glare panel on the inner side
I got this from
More Luftwaffe Fighter Aircraft in Profile by Claes Sundin and Christer Bergstrom. This Dora was supposedly flown by Stuka ace Rudel at the end of the war.
This is my interpretation of a photo in
Malta: The Spitfire Year 1941 by Christopher Shores, Brian Cull, and Nicola Maliza. This is a spit5c delivered to Malta in April '42, flown off USS
Wasp. This batch of spits was painted some color of blue while aboard the CV, so I chose 1942 USN blue as being the most likely available. At the time of this pic, the spit had seen some hard use so the blue was chipping off, exposing the underlying Brit camo. This was just an experiment, actually, simply putting blue over the stock skin and adding some weathering. I'm currently working on the definitive version
I made this as a birthday present for one of my squaddies. He's a mailman with a bad attitude, the Hurri IIC is his favorite ride, and vulching is his favorite passtime
. Note the UPS symbol kill markings
. This is just to show that you don't have to be historical when you do skins.
