90% of the times I fly with my 4 year old daughter.  Its a good thing she cannot read yet, but vox is good enough.

It's a good thing you are not going to come back to the game, since you basically admit you cannot control yourself. There is one less person a parent like Elfie has to worry about. [/B]

In the very first message of this thread it states...

>>I was muted because i answered the mod that i will write the german translation to the ugly word the next time instead of getting a profanity message. Probably, this undermined his authority. ...

...It was unnecessary what happend. <<

So, it is stated that some means would be used to get around the moderation. Its agreed that this probably undermined its authority. And then it follows the muting was unnecessary?
Thats an incredible leap in logic.

I guess a better course would have been for the moderator to log off, look up case law regarding free speach and profanity,  and render a decision in a few weeks:)

The person was initialy warned. Nothing lost. Then because that person chose to escalate the matter, he was muted. For the life of me, I can't see a problem.

heh Yeah that is different then the way i found out,  we've known each other for quite some time,  so we got into a discussion about moderators one time,  therefore he came out with it.  Suprised me :)

I'm thinking they must have, so I'll repost it.

there is certainly no need for the moderator to wake up.

The mods wouldn't take these actions if you learned to follow the rules.

Naah... Use Czech... Only me and Orel do really understand those... And no danger of getting muted by a filter... Nor a moderator... ;) Only on a voice channel, be careful when using Czech or you can find yourself ejected for no reason at all... Since there is a nasty "false-friend" word in Czech and English... It sounds the same as the F-word but in Czech it does not mean the thing it does in English but it means "Really"... So this is the only danger...

Problem is that word filter does not think... And the moderator... well... those may have bad days too...

The whole point of my post was the fact that he shouldn't have been WARNED in the first place.

Guess you missed that?

PS. I still have the film if HT needs an example of what I am talking about.

That is a very good point Dedalos, but then again, as it has been stated before.....there may not have been a moderator online at the time that the event you are referring to happened.  As far as I know, the mods dont have a set schedule or anything.  They are just online whenever they are flying and whatnot.

Seems very simple to me...if the moderators like you, you get a warning, if they dont, you get muted.
Ive been muted for sayin 'N1K Tard'   calling someone a' wuss', and because this was a sunday, I made the comment... 'must be priests flying between mass'...got muted for that too.
Yet, within 2 lines of my text..was very similar comments, after my timeout was up, i asked if they other guy got muted, he said no...hence, if the moderators like you, no worries, if they dont, expect to get muted.
Might as well accept, the moderators can and will abuse their powers..this is life..accept your mute, come back, thank em for the timeout, and start playing the game as if nothing happened.

Nice write up NoBaddy, and on the mark. Most people were reasonable and wouldn't give me any trouble if I had to remind them, but there were some who thought they had some basis for making an issue out of it. I had to treat them appropriately, like with a two by four upside the head. I could be as nice and tender as a flower, or as mean and vile as the devil. I'm sure that some thought I was unfair, but the choice was always theirs. I think this thread is too long >=o|

Dear AH players who's mommies should have used more soap, consider the alternatives. Yes moderators will be inconsistant, they will play favorites, they will pick on some players, and they will abuse their power. For they are simple players like you and me that have agreed to moderate the arena.

HTC also uses an impersonal filter that is almost funny sometimes in what words it filters and those it allows. Things like *****, watermelon and shiit are the result. Human filters can use judgement, but they are human.

Just what do some of you guys expect? If you want perfection, you ain't gonna get it. You have only one option, and that is to behave. It's simple and there is no valid excuse. If some of you get cheated by a less than perfect Moderator, get over it or get out.

HTC does not want vulgarity because most players do not want to put up with gutter language. HiTech can cuss like a biker, so the rules aren't for his benefit. It's intended for the benefit of the AH customers, and they should not have to put up with it just because some of you might have your precious, tender feelings hurt. That's the bottom line and if some of you prima donnas don't like it, tough shiit.

I'm not going allow you to change the scenario to suit your needs.

Steve I wasn't the one using the public park and parents analogy. It was a reply to one.

And don't take me wrong I fully support the idea of monitoring - as long as it's done in a manner that doesn't suppress even the most harmless of the chatters. Meaning that there should be a clear line between abusive behaviour and normal text chat. To my knowledge, children usually know more bad words than their parents at the stage where the parents are trying to 'protect' them from the world.

They are, afterall, just words.

You changed it entirely.  I said "screaming obscenities".  You said "chatting".
I said "cited"   you said "arrested".

Do you not tend to monitor your speech more carefully when you are having a conversation in front of children?

I bet you do.  My point is, one should assume there are children in the game.  I mean, why not err on the side of caution?
I'm far from perfect so I really don't want to pound on you.  I have contemplated this lately.... I wouldn't use foul language in front of children... not gonna do it online(do my best at least).

You could be right.  I just think it's not up to me to make AH unsuitable for children and I don't want to anger the parents who play this game w/ kids around or let their kids play this game.  I want them to have fun too.

So...what you are saying is that you will support monitoring, provided nothing is monitored. Interesting bit of double talk. It isn't about whether or not children know more bad words than their parents. It IS about them knowing when and where it is acceptable to use those words. The monintors aren't here to "protect" anyone from the world. They are here to enforce HT's wishes (it is after all his world) and attempt to give the game a modicom of decorum.
