Try increasing the detail slider in video setups that will nail the fps to the floor again.

I did that and it didnt slow down too much. But I CTD on lift off in my mossie.

I think 3 miles is too close for the maximum distance for ground detail. Even with the slider at 3 miles, you're still close enough to a base that it looks silly when all the buildings dissappear.

I know for a fact it you nail all 3 sliders to max your not gonna be making much more than 22 fps on the runway.

No. your incorrect. I get 50fps on the runway and mid 60-75 in flight.

Well then Pongo i would be interested to know what your running to get that fps.

P4 3g + Radeon 9800 Pro gives me 22 fps all detail maxed out and its wierd but that fps stays the same no matter what resolution i run.

The only thing that affects the frame rates are the detail settings even up to 1920 res.

With everything maxed out I get a mere 12fps on the runway.

Hmm, with my sliders up I don't have any problem seeing the structures at a field or town.

If you're referring to the trees and other structures disappearing at 1500' AGL well that's because clutter is off.

Either my video card / driver can't handle clutter or there are problems resulting in CTD when you have the Clutter on. I'm sure Hitech is working on the problem but in the meantime you can turn it on and see detail from 7k AGL and many miles out, just don't change your view too quickly or you'll probably have an instant CTD so dog fights with clutter on aren't a good idea.

Right now I can't see any value to it for anybody except bomber pilots and it might make Hitechs' job harder not knowing who has it on or off. Course like I said, maybe it's my video card or driver.

btw, the game says I must update my driver, guess I shouldn't have rolled it back.

With visibility set to 3 miles, you can't see most buildings in the bombsight of a B17 from 16,000 ft. With visibility set at the default (approx 1 mile) invisible ack guns will nail you at the airfield towns from distances that seem to be closer than 1 mile. Bomb strikes are invisible at all altitudes I've tried (10K to 16K)with vis set at three miles.
in B17 @ 10K, 4x AA, AF off, detail sliders 50%, Visibility 3.0 miles, any view, Frame rate = 85 (monitor refresh rate). Near the ground can breifly go as low as 30 fps depending on view.

I asked because i was interested in what hardware could get that fps not because i did not believe you.

So with a slower vid card, and an AMD at 2500 you are doubling the frame rate of a 3 gig with faster vid card.

Which suggests the AMD may suit AH2 better than an Intel.

With the detail sliders maxed, the frame rate will vary widely depending on the view. If a lot of small buildings and trees are in view, the frame rate will be much lower than a view of the sky. So we can quote frame rates to each other until we're blue in the face but it won't mean much unless the two computers are displaying the same image, like in the tower at the same base at the same time of day.
In my case, with all settings at maximum quality @ 1280 x 1024 x 32bit, at A199 on the NE runway in a B17 I got 22FPS looking out the windscreen. Flying around at 16K I got 85FPS (monitor refresh rate) in most views but dipping to 50 at times. When I landed using the F3 view, from ne to sw @ a199, the frame rate went down to 13 as I neared the ground.
Maxed out, my prior problems with building visibility at altitude are no more. Bomb strikes are still invisible and the buildings hit don't show damage in a meaningful way.

My frame rates where in a 109G10 on the runway. By the time it was in the ski I was getting 100 again wich is my max because of vsync.

Just out of curiosity Pongo, were you looking through the windscreen or at the sky when you got 50 fps on the runway?

All silders maxed 1280 x 1024 x 32 bit, AA & AF off, 109G-10 on runway through windscreen 16 FPS. Looking at the sky, 85 FPS.
