any thoughts on recontemplating openGL ah2?

i know this has been rejected before as an idea for supporting this system over directx.

but it just looks so good and renders so nicely over microsofts directx it seems worth mentioning just on the merit of the openGL drivers which seem from the outsiders perspective to be constantly improving in support and capability to levels surpassing directX again from the players perspective of looks and framerates.

perhaps the developers perspective is quite different.

theres always been a superior look to the way openGL renders scenes in real time though. maybe its the system or process but they always had more atmospheric and authentic look.

Is there a way to get above 60Hz on the monitor refresh rate in WinXP using OpenGL yet?  I've never had any success doing so in a Quake III engined game, the only 2003 OpenGL experience that I have.

If it is still limited to 60Hz, then I loudly object to the idea of switching to OpenGL.  A 60Hz refresh rate gives me terrible headaches.

well in il2fb and aep it runs at 100hz for me, just set your 1024 screen res to whatever hz you want or whatever resolution your playing set it to that res and adjust hz in that res.

But to get it to do that you have to set your desktop rez to the same rez as IL2.  Given Il-2's inconvenient rezs, it functionally has a 60Hz refresh rate for me.

Curious as to what you've seen that was better in openGL than DX Citabria. Seems I recall thinking that Homeworld looked better in openGL but can't say that's true for anything else.

Tried the programs that unlock your refresh rate karnak?

The "max 60Hz problem" is common in XP, however it can easily be unlocked.

60 hz has always been my max setting......... I  thought any thing over 30 odd was indiscernable any way.

Always considered any visual stuttering seen when FR's are above 30 to be system/program related rather than monitor refresh rate related.

Tilt you may be confusing FPS with the monitor hertz setting.
Its commonly accepted that running your monitor at 60Hz for long periods of time is very likely to give you eye strain and headaches, hence why most people prefer to set the Hz as high as possible for a given resolution.

Karnak,
1. Change your desktop to same res as you wish to run the game.
2. Adjust you refresh rate to disired.
3. Change your desktop res back to what you had been running.
4. Run the game.

That normaly changes you refresh rate in the games you are running.

What are the general pros/cons for Open GL and Direct X when compared to eachother?
