I have never, ever, scored an 800 yrd kill in a Spit V, and I have spent a considerable amount of time in this bird.
All gunnery in AH II is just a tad more different. If your con flys straight and level, and you have the right gun package, I would believe that you will get kills at 800 yrds ... its not out of the realism zone.
A few of us were up in Corsairs/Hellcats against Taki's Tyrants on Monday. One of the tactics I saw deployed was the pseudo-HO - Go for an HO, but as I would avoid it the N1K would flip over and set up a shot from as much as 800 yards. One guy was proud that he got me from 861 yards.
Judging from accounts of pilots and WW2 historians, that would be
well outside the realism zone. Our own Douglas Bader once accidentally discharged a few rounds at a German plane (109 I think) some 800 yards distant, and was
amazed to see the thing start leaking oil. His wingmen were equally amazed! I doubt anyone actually shot wings off at that kind of range. (Dispersion etc.) As for cannon rounds "flying" that far, erm....
Outsiders to AH often speak of AH's laser gunnery. I no longer have to ask them what they mean by that.
