Spit V vs. Everything....
« on: April 21, 2004, 08:55:04 PM »
Is this considered a dweeby plane? Just wondering. I'm not going to quit flying it....But I see the ole "Spit Dweeb" run across the channels and I'm wondering if they are in a V or IX.

Thoughts?

I don't consider the Spit V a dweeb plane. I consider the Spit IX, Nikki, La7 etc. dweeb planes because everybody and their mother fly them. The Spit V takes skill to survive in.

Wasnt there a discussion about this not too long ago?  I certainly dont care what you fly,  or what i may lose to.  Dweeby airplane is a term used by "new age ego turds" that lose to a certain aircaft more than a few times.

Ya Dead... no doubt!

It was established years ago that I am a dweeb.  Since I fly the Spit V some it must be a dweeb plane.

DMF is a dweeb and a lapdog... as dweeby as it gets

Spit V is easy to survive in imo, not so easy to get kills in though.

Dweeb has a long history in flight sims, young padawan.  It's origin goes back to even before my time.
I can tell you w/ certainty two things: It has nothing to do w/ "whine" and we are all dweebs.

I still don't understand what the big deal is about the Mk IX or Mk V.  Yes they are a very forgiving airframe but they are in no way uber in any sense.  They can't outrun most planes and their armament isn't the greatest in the world.  What good does that maneuverability get you when you get BnZ'd by one plane and he calls in friendly?

They excel in a few areas but they are in no way shape or form uber.  It can be out turned, it can be out run, it can be out done in the vertical and it can be out gunned.  It just depends on who your flying against and how well they know their airframe and if they know how to fly it.  If it were so uber then you'd see tons of mass kill landings by them.  And everyone flying them even the mediocre flyers would be "Aces" in a sense.  If someone tries to fly against either and fly to the Spits abilities then it's not because the plane is uber it's because they (attacker)are lacking common sense.  You fight a plane/pilot to their weaknesses not their strengths.

A Spit should be an easy kill if the pilot doesn't know how to use it.  If they've spent alot of time learning every in and out of the planes strenghts and weaknesses then you may have a 50/50 chance against it.  You also have to rememeber they have to know what they can and can't do against every other airframe out there.  It's not like we are talking about WWII itself and how each side had a pretty decent understanding of their foe and what they were capable of.  You fly the plane as it was meant to be flown.  You wouldn't take a 262 or TA152 and turn fight with them, it's not how they were meant to be flown.  Yes you have folks who can do it and who are really good at flying outside the planes envelope but it's a rarity and very few can do it.

The majority of the folks who take time to learn one plane specifically and understand enough about the others to fight them correctly are the ones you should worry about.  More often than not you'll see a new flyer who will jump into a Spit and yes they may get lucky and get a kill here and there.  But in the long run they still have alot to learn about that plane and how to employ it.  Simple fact is the FM is very forgiving and I'm sure you can find many articles by Spit pilots and they will say the same thing.  You still have to know how to fly it to be successful it's not some automatic that if you fly it you'll be good.  You still have to learn ACM and even more so than some airframes to employ that weapons platform in an arena such as the MA against a variety of different planes and be successful.  It basically comes down to you still have to have good training and the difference it may make in a fight is being able to survive just more than a few evasive maneuvers as opposed to many and still have a fighting chance to survive.  It's extremely capable defensive maneuvering will not win the fight and make you a better pilot just by itself.
