Thats HEART!  How can you not admire that?

Its indicative of the lack of skill needed to play the game. A rugby player would not have cut it off simply because it would impair his ability to handle the ball to much.

Ah, see thats the difference.  In American football, we have players who's sole job is to hurt other people - ball or no ball.  :)

You know...I looked it up.  It was Ronnie Lott that was being refered to.

It sure took some time though.  Lots of sites dedicated to a guy who clearly deserves alot of respect, not only because of his devotion to the game, but also because of the millions he has donated to help other people.  I apologise for any disrespect I have shown in this thread.

But, it took time to find info on the finger thing.  Wonder why that is?

Perhaps it is because of one particular quote I found on him, "He didn't care about his own body, why should he care about others."  I guess that sort of sums it up.  Most sites dedicated to the man make no reference to the very thing that you guys seem to admire him for.

I still think mutilating his body so that he wouldn't miss a couple of games is stupid and certainly a silly thing to bring up in a thread started to discuss Euro 2004.

But not "Steroid induced stupidity"?

You got rubber knees back peddling ho!

Leave sports to people who know. Go argue if Bush caused the Holocaust chumpy.

Hey...I got a little "hot under the collar" after Bigman started a willy measuring exercise in a thread that was nothing to do with American football to start out with.  When I am am wrong I'll admit it.

Maybe it wasn't steroid induced stupidity...but it was stupidity nonetheless, so realistically I was 50% correct on my analysis.

Being a sports guru who is in the "know" who do you think is going to win Euro 2004?

Ronnie Lott. San Fransisco 49'ers
He didnt chop it off himslef but had the tip amputated because that would heal faster then the break he suffered

I'd respect someone who cut off his finger to save his life or something.  In this case...what?...he did it because his contract states he wouldn't get paid unless he finnished the game or something?  His kid needed surgery?  Or did he need to pay back his booky or crack dealer?  Or did he do it to be macho and have all of you guys state he was a hero of some sort?

Unconvinced...he was stupid.

It WASNT his whole finger but just the tip.
That rea of the finger was broken. It was less painfull and faster healing to nip it off rather then suffer through it.
If you ever had the tip of your finger broken you know that watermelon HURTS ..alot.

Good result for us. Historically we never proceed beyond the group stage if we do well in the first match.

All I'm saying is that the USA will never be good at soccer because-soccer- at its core, is Un-American.  Taking dives and rolling around on the ground crying and all.  We like violent aggressive sports...such is our nature..we are a warrior people.

There is an american world cup rugby team (and even a rugby league team)...it's just their not remotely up to the standard of the English, French, New Zealand or Australian players

ie. France 41 USA 14 in RWC '03
