Pieces of Airbases & Coastlines appear/dissappear
« on: June 16, 2004, 03:09:06 PM »
Airbases & coastlines continually have a dead zone moving through them.

I'm running a Radeon 9200.

Any chance this'll get fixed before AH2 goes live?

Is this a bug or just my setup?  No one's commented on it.  It's kinda hard to land a wounded plane when the runway keeps going away.

Don't take it personally.  MANY reports go uncommented, but I suspect they're all looked at by HTC.

do you have your graphic detail sliders at a low setting?  That could be the problem.

I pretty sure I don't.  I'll have to double check when I get home this afternoon.

I can say that the issue does occur at varying ranges.  Often times at hardly at 1k of alt.

I have a 9700 Pro 128.

I have seen a little of this when I'm between ground level and up about 5k from the ground. But its like a local rolling screen set. I can watch a point on a road dissapereing behind me at about 2 or 3 miles back. It looks like I'm in a 2 or 3 mile visual circle where my terrain is changing in palce below me rather than my plane is actually flying in 3D space from point to point.

This was more pronounced in the last 4 betas. With the release last night it has become so smooth I have to work at seeing it.

Have you tried the latest Omega drivers for ATI? I'm not sure which cards they cover, but when I change to them the video in the betas improved a lot.

I see this at all altitudes.  Anything overlayed on the ground, keeps appearing/disappearing:
roads,
airbases,
cities,
coastlines,
etc.

I have to remember what the orientation of runways is, as they are generally not visible untill I'm on short final.  When trying to bomb the cities, I just have to guess where buildings are, and hope they're still up.  I can handle the other bugs I've seen, but this is a real playability problem for those using ATI cards.  If video drivers or settings, or system configuration will help, let me know.  This really detracts from the game experience and is a genuine bug.

Its a thought. The guy is acknowleged by ATI for his drivers ability to tune ATI Radeon cards for game play.

I'd like to hear from someone at hitech that they are aware of the problem.

I'm one of the players who is having quite a tough time adapting to the new game.  I'm not complaining about the gunnery or stalling spinning out of dogfights.  I'm not complaining about how quick this or that model of plane is.  But the fact that half the time airbases and cities and trees etc are invisible is something I'll complain about.  It is definitely something wrong, and it's extremely distracting and annoying; and it gets in the way of the game for those of us unlucky enough to choose the wrong video card manufacturer.

Please someone at HiTech, say something to let me know that you're going to fix this sometime.

Honestlty I don't think it's a Bug...... you have a slider for how much is visable at what distance..... and it setable from .5 to 3+ miles, .  Set yours all the way out if you need it, especally if your vid card is up to the task.  I find that at 1.5 I have plenty of detail for landing and ground attack.

Honestly you're dead wrong.  It has absolutely nothing to do with the distance slider.  First off, it doesn't matter a wit what distance I am from the invisible object.  Secondly it comes and goes.  So as I'm flying towards a base, it will appear and then later (when I'm closer) it will dissappear.  Parts of the base are often visible while other parts aren't, then the visible and invisible parts switch.  Thirdly I highly doubt that the coastline changing from that stupid fractal shape to straight lines and back again is even controllable by the distance slider.

It is a bug.

Hmm, never seen that, post your system specs as HTC will need to know your exact system setup to help.
