How would everyone feel about having the 180 degree rear view removed and instead you have say a 176 degree and 184 degree rear view - ie you have a blind spot directly on your six?

Still have the ability to set your views as it is but not have the ability to rotate your head 180 degrees and look backwards or up and backwards...

Been playing IL2 a lot lately, don't even get me started on lean and rich fuel settings, radiators, prop pitch and 1st and second stage boosters!!! Ahhhhh to dream....

Funny enough, nothing you suggested would make a difference to me since I fly the 109. Six view is crap anyways and all the engine management was automated. ;)

Yep except you could over ride the radiator auto function and close it for extra speed for a few minutes - playing Il2 at all GS?

Am in the middle of a late Finnish campaign with G6's - mk108 is absolutely awesome in there!!

No. I flew the original Il2 offline, but I haven't found the time to fly FB or AEP since I started flying in AH. There's definitively too few hours in a day.

the view system in IL2 is the worst thing in the game. it's almost the game killer for me.

while the "owl head" 6 view is not very realistic, neither is the limited head motion and visibility on a screen. pilots can't rotate their heads 180 degrees - but they can lean sideways and look over the shoulder which gives almost the same thing (although somewhat more cumbersome and you can't do it while manuvering very well or you slam the head against the canopy...).

actually the next step in view system will be to allow saving any head location/orientation and assigning it to any desired key. so you can have 30 deg left, 20 deg up with the head against the left window if you like to.

Ah.... mmm ... restricting the pure 180-degree view or Exorcist head turning certainly makes sense for realism ... but ... I like what we have for better gameplay.

And ... we need exterior views like IL-2 and most other flight sims.

I seem to recall that somebody (HiTech?) said that every WWII pilot he'd asked the question "How much could you see behind you?" had stated that they could turn enough to see their verticle stabilizer.  That is something that Il-2 doesn't come close to.

Remember, you wouldn't be belted in tight to the seat without any ability to move your torso.  You bleted in loosely so that you could see around you.  If you can't see the enemy, you're at a disadvantage.


That said, I wouldn't mind seeing snap views disabled and then changing the view system so that if you are looking over the right wing, then look back and then want to look to the left rear it rotates through the forward view to get there.

The only change for "realism" in the current system would be to prevent the view rotating all the way round: you could get to 180 degrees from either direction but you wouldn't be able to go further (i.e. i can go from 5 o'clock to 6 o'clock, but if I then want to go to 7 o'clock I have to go back round the other way). I'm not sure this would add anything to the game in the end.

There is also plenty of evidence to suggest that the overheating in il2 is over-done. The power running limitations were there to prevent excessive engine wear more than preventing engine overheat.

I understand what you're getting at; but I fly a lot of AEP offline; and the view system truely sucks.

It might be better coupled with HTC's "head positioning" feature: but as it is IL-2's views are awful.


They have a very nice and fluid padlock; though.

Latest patch allows you to look either right or left 180 degrees, but you can't rotate your head for a view like AH and of course you can't change the position of your head - ie lean forwards or sideways etc

Hmmm...

Thought you could use either snap, or pan, or mouse view in AHII?

Select your preferred view system in viewing portion of preferences?

AHII is defaulted to snap view where AHI was defaulted to pan view?

I can still move head to position I prefer for a specific view and press F10 to save it.

Perhaps I'm not reading this right?

Look over your right shoulder.

QUICKLY snap your head to look over you left shoulder.

What did you see during the transition ?

I'll tell ya ... you saw NOTHING.

If you saw something then you didn't snap your head as fast as you would if you were in a fight scenario and were scared chitless and were checking from your 3 to 9.

Basically, its no different than our view system.

you may not mind it but others may....

if you prefer pan type view perhaps that should be selected for your view.
