Jeez, Arlo!

I was gunna smoke the big oneson the Brinkmann! Now they'll jump out of the boat!
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!

Just posting to get into the longest thread I can recall. Besides, I was around during the TAS scam. I can't believe this flake is still pulling the same crap. sigh.
DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."

Moggy gave me and my AW squadies  AW ballcaps in 1999 at the Reno air races.

Truly a nice, nice guy. ..I'm glad he's doing well.

Hey, excellent!  I went to the Reno Air Races one year, and Moggy gave me a cap, too.  I still have it on top of my computer monitor.  Thanks, Moggy!  (A more dashing and gentlemanly Air Warrior you will not meet, I say!)

I can't remember if it was 1999 or not, but we might have been to the same one.  My buddy's brother-in-law was the pilot of Rare Bear, which unfortunately had a valve break off and enter the combustion chamber then had subsequent problems with the main bearing (metal parts in combustion chamber with piston going up and down = unhappy crankshaft).  So, he couldn't fly Rare Bear in the race but flew a Sea Fury instead.  Also, unfortunately, one pilot was killed in one of the races when his horizontal stabilizer failed after crossing another plane's wake, inducing flutter.

Howdy sir. Saw a reference to skip bombing in the Rangoon part of this thread. Reminded me of a roundtable one night on GEnie where I wanted it added to the game and you looked (typed?) at me like my head was exploding. :)

I think it was.

meant to add a tidbit I found while researching for Guadalcanal...

Japanese pilots developed a way to run their engines leaner  than most everyone else but it required a certain speed and altitude range to work properly. I cannot recall if I got that info from RickT's friend (Leyte Gulf author) or Rick himself though. Never did pin down the speed range but the altitude range was 22 to 25k.
