Forget Metallica, they're long gone.

Fortunately we still have Slayer.

And Pantera.

And a lot of other stuff.

They were one of the best bands of the early 80's.  Unfortunately they didn't retire after their third album.

Metallica has changed over the years but one thing is for certain they are still getting paid and paid big unlike some who question them.

It's very unfortunate Cliff had to die because he did bring alot to the band.  There was no replacement for Cliff at all even with Newsted.  Frankly his playing didn't have the life to it that Cliffs did.

Some folks had a fit when Mustaine left the band too.  Frankly Mustaine seemed like the typical long hair, tight spandex pants, girly band member typical of the times.  Opposed to just playing he had to play it up with his flashy showoff moves.  Yes he was a good player but frankly he had a long way to go.  Stevie Ray Vaughan on the other hand had what it took to back up his flashy moves while on stage.  Metallica at the time wasn't about the "show" it was about the music.

Biggest thing that annoys me with the newest Metallica album is Lars and his wild and unrelenting smashing of the cymbals.  It's rather annoying and even when turning it down it's still so distinctive and unavoidable that you have to just turn it off.

I think Metallica will be viewed up there with Led Zeppelin as the second most influencial "rock" band.

Well, ACDC too, but I'd place Metallica above them as far as influence.

You kind of have that right....

Zeppelin and Metallica: Somewhat influential and awful.

Actually I take that back... I can name 10 Metallica influenced bands. Cannot do the same for Zeppelin. They were horrible, and nobody took them seriously until they got re-discovered 10 years later somehow... and they remained horrible.

Metallica and Zep up there in the top 3 bands ever? Geeze....

Metallica is influential?

What do the following acts have in common?

Red Hot Chili Peppers, Elvis Presley, Keith Richards, Elvis Costello, the Greatful Dead, Fats Domino, Jerry Lee Lewis, Mark Knofler, Little Richard, Dean Martin, the Everly Brothers, Cowboy Junkies, Ray Charles, Norah Jones, Bob Dylan,  the Carpenters, Sheryl Crow, and Coldplay.  (there are scores more on the list)

They're mostly good (I got you pegged music-wise).

Just 'cause Metallica was influential doesn't mean they were good. Just influential. Zep sucked always, and were/are not influential.
