I remember you mentioning tha you would like to see all troops deployed overseas return to the US. For what reason?

actually we really dont NEED our military overseas.

We have the ability to project power from great distances at a moments notice.

There is no enemy to defend Europe against so no need for 40,000+ troops there.

Threats change....so does the prepositioning.

The US spends billions of dollars on deployed troops to Europe for what?

Mark my words.  You are going to hear some serions beaching from Germany over this.  They stand to loose a TON of money and jobs.

So you say that Bush and his cabinet finds NATO to be obsolete?

I think you are right, but there is no future for this kind of "free-market economy".
The stationed troops here dont work like a company, they are just here sitting around, nothing is produced.
You say they will lose TON's of money, hey you are talking bout
your US Taxes!
Yes some germans who depend on this money will lose,
but we here need anyway new jobs, maybe a good time now.

Its a wise move and i think it will only stronger your millitary.

I was referring mostly to the civilians employed by the base and the money that the troops/familys actually put into the economy.  Host countries of many nations make ALOT of money off of military bases.
