I'm not trying to open a can of worms here, but there are several other game-based forum sites that have volunteer forum moderators "working" for them.  Apolyton.net (Civ2) comes to mind.

Just thinking, not so much for answering questions, but just for policing, why not have a few posters over the years who've proven themselves to be reasonable people, be given the task of making sure everyone plays nice?

I figure it would free up HTC staff quite a bit, as there are tons of threads to go through, and often they are seemingly looked at by HTC because when they get out of hand they are (and should be) locked.

I'd just personally prefer to have HTC working on the game and not playing policeman, though as is currently the setup, it seems they have to.

Not to say HTC would never look at the threads again, but their moderators could clue them in when there is something that ought to be addressed/answered when they get a chance.

You could "pay" the moderators simply by cutting them a deal on their accounts.  It wouldn't seem fair for someone to have this never-ending responsibility cutting into their playing time if they still had to pay full price.

Not sure if this is the right forum for this, but I suppose it could qualify under general aces high stuff.

A few forums exist with 'community moderation.'  If a thread is deemed unacceptable, a player can vote against it being visible.  After a certain number of votes, the thread goes poof.

This is something I talked to pyro about at the con. Was going to let it drop, but since you posted about it I think your quite right.

I would like to see them pass that responsibility on the some of their old time reliable players who in turn could pass along any thread that would need their attention. :) Many of these forums bleed their time without producing any revenue for them. Sure we could argue this sim needs various outlets for the HTC community to toss in their two cents, but often it is a case of narcissism and a waste of development time for HTC to constantly review and moderate.

Best post I have seen in a long time Vudak. Hope it proves to be of value to others as well.

We're in a crunch to get 2.01 out right now but after that, I think we need to take a comprehensive look at some different options.

by bouncing around theory on the board (that works real well  ) or by trial and error testing of different ideas, testing 1 on general and the other on the o'club?

Forum mafia? LOL a hate title already and it is just in the idea stage. Why do you make a blanket statement like that vorticon? Bad experience somewhere else?  Bet you don’t like police officers either. ;)

I don’t see moderators filtering ideas, but civility.
