Reduce sound to med is you haven't already. The stutters on my end were from the auto saves. I am sure there's a console command to turn them off but I don't know what it is...

re: Short

It took a few days but I was left at the end thinking there must be a missing chapter.

It was far to easy but I won't spoil it for you...

So I take it it's much shorter than DoomIII?

I played that for a week or week and a half (although I only got maybe an hour or two in a night).

Updated my drivers, lowered my sound quality...2 desktop crashes. Guess that's better than the total pc freeze that I had earlier. Considering the amount  of problems, it's not on my end. Wouldn't it be shocking if companies made products that worked? 6 years for shoddy quality...

I read somewhere you have to write in the console: autosave 0
i will test this later at home, i have stuttering because the
autosave function.

LOL some people are really fast, finishing HL2 in 2 days :D
I'm still stuck at the Canal, driving my airboot *g*

You can play offline just by either not establishing a connection prior to starting the game or firewalling Steam...when you launch Steam just click the 'offline' button and there ya go.
