We had a great time, and we enjoyed excellent fighter cover the whole time. I think a good decision was made to take the main buff force on the route it used attacking A39. I feel this gave more time for the fighters to duke it out, and by the time we arrived at A39, most of the German fighters where down. We only had one brief engagement with some 110's, just before arriving A39. That was quickly taken care of by our fighter escort. I was leader of USMC's B group of 26's our acting CO was JRCcrow commanding A group. Our mistake was poor BDA, we all felt we had done more damage to A39 than was recorded. If we had known that A39 was still intact, we would have recommended a second strike. Instead we went to secondary target (A38) and did good damage to it.
BDA (battle damage assessment) can be difficult when you are trying to RTB at max speed from target, using full zoom out of the tail gun. We were worried about fighters at the time, and wanted to RTB for a second attack.
Sorry for not taking A39 all the way down guys, we will try for better BDA next time.
